Our experience at Aquatech this past year has been amazing for our 3 and 5 year old. Our goal was to primarily build confidence in water and basic swim skills for safety. The entire experience has been seamless. Classes can be booked online or if you need to skip a day you can get a make up token. You check in on an iPad and it tells you your lane and instructor. Changing facilities and bathrooms are super clean and plentiful. We never need to wait. Sitting area for parents is comfortable and you can easily see your kid in the pool. Our children have a fear of water on their faces and are super sensitive, but our instructors kindly got them over that fear. Coach Gabe in particular has been so patient with my son, and he has really grown into a confident swimmer in just 3 months! He went from screaming when water touched his face to dunking his head and holding his breath underwater. Their tadpole program is great too for babies and toddlers, although my daughter is not progressing as quickly since she doesn't get 1:1 attention from an instructor. Private lessons are pricier but it's the way to go if you need more help. read more

We love Aquatech for regular swim lessons but we also recently hosted a birthday party here and everyone had a blast. They had huge floaties waiting for the kids (unicorn, duck, etc) and two staff members watched the kids at all times. Sheila was amazing from beginning to end from set up to clean up. AquaTech Swim School is amazing! The facility is clean with lots of private changing areas. My toddler is in the Seahorse class, and the instructors are so patient--he went from only dipping his feet in on his first day to fully participating in just four weeks. They have multiple lifeguards on duty, which is reassuring, and the staff are very encouraging. I wish they offered report cards or more verbal feedback, but I understand lessons are back-to-back due to high demand, and I still appreciate the feedback they do give. Having tried out some other things, AquaTech feels like a bit of a scam. The facility is nice and it's great as a parent if you want to sit indoors and watch ESPN for half an hour while your other kid watches Shrek. It's not actually great for swim lessons, assuming that this is the main point. For the money you spend, your kid gets 30 minutes a week that they'll mostly spend hanging on the wall, with an occasional foray out into the water and back and a few dives at the end. They're also not inclined at all to help kids make progress (and ultimately leave). I'm writing this as my child is having a lesson with the Alameda Pool association which is $645 total for the family for the year. This includes up to five one-hour lessons a week where the kids are all more active than AquaTech. (Plus, we all can do family swim and so on.). There's no wi-fi, but our kid is progressing at a much faster rate now. AquaTech is great for early swimmers and classes with parents, but in hindsight I wish we'd found ASPA and ARPD swim sooner! read more

Purchased a Groupon to try this swim school out for the summer. My son has made tremendous progress and his confidence in the water was increased. We ended up continuing sessions after the 4 week program. I recommend the private swim class for children who need support with swimming. My 3 year old daughter was hesitant to get into the pool. After a few lessons of her making progress, we were informed that she needs to get pulled into the pool by an instructor or leave. It just so happened that a very tall man was the person sharing this policy with us and he volunteered to put her into the pool. It felt intimidating and, naturally, my daughter was not inclined to be dragged into the pool by a man she did not know. I do not recommend Aquatech for young children. read more

Cons: 1) After being on a wait-list for MONTHS was offered a 6:40p Tuesday class for a 4 year old 2) No soap allowed in the facility, so after the only option (a super late class we waited months for), I still have to bathe my son at home, so swim nights are really late nights 3) This week was our last paid class (purchase d 4) it slipped my mind because I was diagnosed with Pneumonia a few days ago. My son used to be scared of the underwater. I have taken him to try out many swimming places, but it still didn't work out. During the lockdown, finding a place to learn swimming was even harder. My son waited for a while until he could get into this place. The staff was very friendly, patient with my son, and helpful. On top of that, they always keep this place clean, seriously! My son has been improving in swimming every day; I can see the progress. I am so happy I made the right choice coming to this place. Now, my son has already graduated from these classes. We tried to sign our child up at this aquatech location and were told there were no timeslots that would work for us (IE after school). We ended up finding private lessons across the street and Aquatech's owner complained because she didn't like the competition. So if you like supporting large companies that will intentionally put individual swim instructors out of business, Aquatech is your place. A quick scan of their Glassdoor reviews will show you that they don't treat their instructors well either. Just a bad business all around. read more

Aquatech has the most unreasonable customer service I've ever dealt with. While on the way to swim class, my daughter experienced a medical emergency and we had to go straight to the ER. Naturally, calling was my first thought, but their phone system doesn't even let you leave a message. I wasn't about to pull over during an emergency just to fill out an absence form. Even after offering to provide medical records, they still refused to issue a simple make-up token. After going back and forth via email, I only got a call from the supervisor, Lea, after asking multiple times to speak with someone. When she finally did call, she was robotic and rude, like she was just reading from a script, and had zero empathy for the situation. For a program centered around children, you would expect compassion and flexibility -- instead, we were treated like an inconvenience. Truly disappointing. Do your family a favor and find another swim school there are others in the area. read more

Unfortunately they don't heed much to their own internal criteria about allowing a student move up a level. DEFINITELY MONEY GRABBING MINDSET. Trying to keep your kid in the same level so they can squeeze maximum $. Those who join beginner levels beware of the fact: not much learning other than dipping your kid around in the pool and holding breath under water. My kids have been swimming at Aquatech Alameda for a couple years now and we've had a great experience. The building is well-maintained and their classes and process are a well-oiled machine. It's an indoor facility that has a comfortable area for viewing the classes in progress and a separate area to the side where kiddos waiting for their classes or siblings can play or watch a movie. For the adults they have sports on TV and Faction beer on tap or Wine, coffee and snacks. All the staff are friendly and genuinely try to help you. I know some people get annoyed with the lack of classes, but I don't feel they should be faulted for the high demand for their services. And I feel that their policies are very clear about their wait list, reporting absences, etc. My absolutely favorite person who works at Aquatech is Manager (and occasional Coach) Victor. He is a ray of sunshine and my son likes him so much he asked me to invite him to his birthday party (he's 5 and didn't ask me to invite any of his other teachers/coaches) read more

I am surprised about the negative reviews citing customer service. I've been taking my kids here for about 4 months and everyone is so kind! They recognize my kids and greet them by name when we arrive. The swim coach is very supportive. My kids are always excited to waive goodbye to the safety assistants when we are walking out. There is a cool viewing area for parents. Snack bar with kids snacks + coffee and alcohol for parents. My only complaint is it took a really long time to get off the waitlist! read more

AquaTech has been phenomenal. They've put a lot of thought into the entire experience. Here are a few of the things that I've enjoyed: 1. The pool is indoors and its warm (at least 90f) 2. All of the instructors and staff have been friendly and welcoming. Instructors remember the kids name and are super accommodating. 2. They have a ton of changing rooms so you can get your kid in and out quickly and the rooms are heated which makes it pleasant when exiting the heated pool. 3. There is a waiting area for the parents where you can sit and view the kids swim through a glass window, with free wifi, TVs, and adult beverages! 4. Parking is plentiful and free Now the not so great : 1. It gets to be a bit pricey, lessons are ~$40 each + an annual fee of $50 per child just to have access to the registration portal. 2. Billing is automatic so if you don't remember to cancel before the new session begins you will be billed. I haven't had any issues but based on the reviews here refunds could be a challenge. Overall its been a great experience, we plan to return. Pro tip: consider attending AquaRec to check out the facility, its only $15 per swimmer per day and you can swim for hours. My 7 year old has been taking lessons at AquaTech for 1.5 years. She started out as a "Seahorse" (Comfortable Beginner) who was comfortable dunking her head, but did not know how to swim at all to now a "Puffer" and about to begin working on her freestyle and backstroke. In this time my daughter has gained confidence in the water, learned how to swim, and had fun. Two instructors that have stood out to us are Cleeford and Catherine. I credit Cleeford with teaching my daughter to back float. My daughter had multiple instructors while she was a Seahorse and Cleeford was by far the best teacher. He gave my daughter both the confidence and the skill to trust herself and float on her back. He was very patient with her while also pushing her to go out of her comfort zone. Catherine was my daughter's most recent teacher while she was a Silverfish/Goldfish. Catherine is charismatic and ensures the kids have fun while they learn. My daughter recently completed all of her skills for this level and moved on to Puffer. She will miss having Catherine as her teacher. I am very pleased with my daughter's progress so far and plan on continuing at AquaTech for the foreseeable future. read more

I cannot believe that this place charged me for 3 consecutive months and my son never attended once-not one time! Unconscionable business practices! They needed my credit card information to "hold" a spot for lessons for my son. Don't give them your credit card information-they will never stop charging you. They explained that they charge continually until you send them a written 30-day notice of discontinuation. They never reached-out to explain this. They just kept charging me and now I am out $300!! Great place to help your family learn how to swim. My kids were taught here for about a year or so. Instructors here are very patient with beginners. The only downside is when kids are being taught in groups, they'll have to wait awhile before it's their turn. I put two of my kids here and have been pleasantly surprised with the program. My daughter has been swimming here for 9 months now, and she had professed to another level within a few months of starting. In comparison to her last swim school where she was swimming over over an year, had 3 different swim instructors and wasn't moving on. I observe her swim every session, and I see a variety of teaching styles from the instructors--some are more technical while others are less. But most importantly, she enjoys coming back and doesn't have a different instructor every couple months. I was very happy with Ms. Kate and her way of helping the kids build a good foundation. My 2 year old enrolled for 6 months in the baby and me class, and Mr. Percy is wonderful and fun. He's able to split his time with all the kids and will meet your child at their level. He'll try to push them to a comfortable place, but not overdo it. My son does not like swimming, but he likes Mr. Percy. Lastly, I feel that the swim school has good staff who enjoy working there and like to teach kids how to swim and succeed. They have a super reasonable cancellation program that makes sense--submit an absence by 8am the day of, and you get a token for a makeup class. Some other swim schools require a 24 hr notice, but ?????? when a kid is sick, you know the day of, not 24 hrs before. read more

Swimming class is like disneyland for our 2yo. Swimming is the best thing ever for her. Now imagine you go to disneyland, you have a ticket but at the entrance they say "sorry, you can't go in. We made a mistake and someone else has your slot. You can't go in" . So this happened at the swimming class today. Now, I'm the one that has to tell my 2yo wearing a swimsuit and goggles that she doesn't get to go to the pool on the other side of the bay window. It gets worse they don't have ANY time for us anymore. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. We might be lucky if someone doesn't renew at the next billing they told us. I'm mad and I'm heartbroken. What happened? We booked a recurring class. We went the week before. It was all great. Now this.... Help me! When can we go again? I have a 2yo that wants to know too. Overall a decent swim school for the price and location, however I have some ongoing issues with the lesson structure and class progression that has left a lot to be desired. My kids started here about 2 years ago, and were in the same class. I noticed after awhile that it appeared that they had mastered the skills, but weren't progressing in class levels. I brought it up to management, and asked to see what the curriculum was. They showed me what each swimmer needs to master to move up to the next level. Then my partner and I work on these particular skillsets with my children. I'm also very present at their classes. After a couple weeks of looking like they mastered the skill, I ask the front desk why they aren't progressing. They then tell me they need to have mastered some additional skills as well, and that it's subjective based on the teacher whether they should progress to the next level. This is concerning because 1)why aren't these skills listed on the website or provided to families and 2) with the high teacher turnover, how can the teachers really know what level each child truly is. Especially if they barely stick around for a month to notice their ability. My children were specifically told they needed to work on just one skill, yet they get evaluated and have a complete other set of priorities. I also requested having the fins taken off my child so she could demonstrate her ability, since she is on the smaller side and it's nearly impossible to complete one of the skills unless she puts on more weight. My main priority is having my children be able to swim and be water safe, in the event they may get around a body of water. But as a former swimmer and lifeguard, I feel like the class structure is bogus and shouldn't be as subjective. And it's annoying to pay so much and get the run around. I have complained about the class structure before (for their tadpole class, because the instructor didn't know how to tailor a class for 6months-3 years old for an actual 6 month old), which could have caused my baby to ingest a ton of water. But more than anything, this school needs to work on being transparent with the skills levels. I will say the instructors appear great, but then again, it's hard to tell because retention is so bad. Despite these concerns, the pool isn't too bad and I like the set up of the place, which makes it easy to view your child during their lesson. They also sell beer and wine, although I cannot for the life of me understand who would need a brewski while watching/waiting for your child to finish their 30 lesson. read more

Some teachers are really fun- my kid love them, but some seems not very energetic with kids. The pool is clean and sanitized. Customer service is OK. It's really hard to book a class by yourself or calling. They need to hire more people. The pool in the weekend is very busy and crowded. Ratio 1:4 is too much, your kids barely learn some kicks and then wait for his/her turn after another 3 students finish their practice. So during 30 minutes lecture, you kids only move in the water like 5 times, each time like 30s. However, the baby class is really fun, it's a great way for parents to bond with their children. My kids have been coming here for the last few years and I appreciate their professionalism and patience. It's very convenient: they are indoors, the pool is more than 90 degrees, plenty of parking, very clean and very straightforward. It's easy to report absence (by 8AM of the day of the lesson) and get a makeup token. It's also very easy to use makeup tokens. Sometimes they have to close the pool and notify people as soon as possible via text and email. The best way to contact them is via their contact form but most of the information is online. Take note that these are group lessons so it's not a rushed process. I prefer for my kids to get comfortable and willingly submerge their heads underwater. If you're looking for quick results, look elsewhere for private lessons. read more

This is a hard review to write because there are really great things about Aquatech, but here we go... The GOOD: Once we were able to get in, after months of calling and religiously checking the website with zero success, we landed fantastic teachers who were able to help my kiddo overcome a swimming trauma and become confident in the water. They were magical, 5 stars. The BAD: Landing lessons is nearly impossible. It's basically down to luck. You have to call in or hop on their website right after someone has dropped out. Your guess is as good as mine as to when someone will be dropping out. After trying for months to get in, finally landing lessons with amazing teachers, moving my kiddo past a swimming trauma, and getting her excited and looking forward to swim lessons (which felt like a MIRACLE)... our swim lessons were cancelled RETROACTIVELY. We found out the day after her last class that it was her last class. We were in a 1-on-1 class because it was the only class we could get into (the only wait-list they maintain is one for 1-on-1 lessons). While more expensive, it ended up working out perfectly for our kiddo. We were looking forward to keeping our kiddo in that class/time slot until she became a confident swimmer which would have been months and months if not years. She didn't get to say goodbye to her teacher, we just got a call saying "hey, so sorry, we don't have enough teachers, your class has been cancelled. Oh and we have no viable alternatives to offer you." We weren't offered any other alternatives in Alameda, we just got dumped. The alternatives that we were offered were at their Concord Campus. We live in Alameda, but we would have considered Concord classes because our kiddo had become so enthusiastic and we wanted to continue her progress. Even with what would most likely have been 1.5 - 2 hours of commuting time during rush hour traffic we probably would have done it, BUT the classes on offer were after her bedtime on school nights, during school hours, or 10 minutes after school gets out. As a business if you are going to offer classes, you should be equipped and prepared to do so. If you have to cancel those classes and pull the rug out from under your clients, then you should be able to offer them viable alternatives. AquaTech did not, which makes it impossible for me to recommend them as a business. *** EDITED TO ADD that less than 24 hours after posting this review I was contacted and offered a class in Alameda. I'll let you connect the dots. Instead of initially offering a plan, they're reacting to a sh!tty Yelp! review. When our lessons were cancelled, we were told that they don't have wait lists for group classes (I knew this but thought maybe since they'd dumped a bunch of families they might offer some sort of solution), to keep checking their website for classes and calling in, and vaguely that we were on their radar and they'd try to reach out if something became available (but it wasn't really their policy to do this). I want to reiterate that everyone who I have spoken with has been lovely and all the teachers we've had are amazing. There are great things about Aquatech, I'm not here to shoot the messenger, but this whole situation could have been handled differently. For all of the families enrolled in lessons that were cancelled, or when Aquatech makes a mistake or misstep here are some suggestions for the owners/decision makers: 1) HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE: "We are so sorry that we have to cancel your lessons due to staffing issues. Unfortunately, we don't have any lessons to put you in at the moment. We'll follow up weekly via email to keep you in the loop, and should a lesson become available, we will reach out immediately. We typically don't have wait lists for group lessons, but we have made this accommodation because we had to cancel your lessons due to staffing." 2) COMMIT TO THE PLAN AND FOLLOW UP every week via email, even if it's to let families know nothing has changed, this let's them know you haven't forgotten them. "Hi, this is Aquatech. Unfortunately nothing has opened yet. We are working to hire new teachers so that we can staff appropriately. As soon as an opening becomes available we will reach out to you. Monthly is now $92 for a 30 minute once a week class. My daughters been come here for about 3 years and she enjoys it. The water is very warm and the chlorine will make your eyes water if you wait for your kids pool side. They have showers but don't allow shampoo or soap which is a silly policy. I'm missing some of the original employees that worked there when my daughter first started. The new group at the front desk falls short when it comes to scheduling etc. I've been scheduled for classes on days they were closed and when I try to reschedule that am told I'm not able to. read more

We have been customers for nearly 7 years. Our older son is nearly done with the program and it took a while. I am giving 3 stars because our 3 yr old has been enrolled in the toddler class for almost 2 years. Since he turned 3 we have been unable to get him into the starfish class. We keep being told to call during a special window of time when kids dropout. It is disappointing that as such dedicated customers, we can't get into a class. I am not sure we want to continue to pay to wait for another class while our 3.5yr old stays in the toddler class. I cannot call and check the website everyday for an opening. Another note is that my son has gotten changes in teachers just when he is about to advance. Then time is spent getting to to know a new teacher that doesnt advance them for several weeks more. #1, I cannot swim. #1.5, I used to be able to swim -- but I forgot because water gets scarier as you get taller and heavier (and sinkier). BUT! Aquatech's pool is shallow and warm, and my daughter has a GREAT time (and so do her Pops and her Mops). 4 S T A R S * NO DROWNING ALOUD -- 4 feet maximum depth! Let's clarify that this star is for humans whose mouths clear four feet when they stand up. As for the smaller varieties, there are of course watchful lifeguards (aka Pool Nazi's) during the swimming classes. * CLASSES FOR THE TINY MASSES $25 a week gets you great child swim instruction by great instructors. Teacher Nori teaches the beginner Tadpole level and our 2-year old loves her! Fun swimming drills and pool songs make this swimming class a toddler's delight. * (0.5) CLEAN I'm sure there's some exogenous kid-fluids mixed in with the pool water, but it's so clear and warm (and chlorinated with just a hint of salt) that I don't worry about it. Also, babies and toddlers need to wear at least 2 swim bottoms and there's a big fine for pooping in the pool (enforced by the Pool Nazi's). So I'm totally happy this level of sanitation risk. *(0.5) HEATED I'm so above frigid swimming pools -- as in I rarely climb down into them. Aquatech's got that 88-91 degree water temperature on lock! *(0.5) THEFT-LESS CUBBIES -- Thus far! Aquatech provides an environment that feels super safe. * (0.25) BABIES, BABIES, BABIES! AquaBaby is baby and parents recreational swim time on Saturdays at 8:30am. We've brought our daughter there for many memorable morning play dates. *(0.25) IN-N-OUT BURGERS ACROSS THE STREET It's like a Double-Double win-win! 1 M I N U S - CHEAPER REC SWIM ELSEWHERE Aquatech charges $8 per person (including babies) for the recreational swim time. This review is for Mr Anan who was our tadpoles swim instructor today. We've been at Aquatech for over a year now and I have a kiddo who's very comfortable in the water. Our previous teacher was very consistent in what we do each week but it was starting to get boring. Appreciate that Mr Anan recognized that my daughter can do more and gave us additional skills to work on to help my daughter's progress. The Aquatech facilities are great. I appreciate the heated pool, changing areas are always clean (they are wiped down between every class) and bathrooms are also always clean. It is true that it's very hard to secure a class in the beginning though. Overall the staff is friendly but it seems what the teachers teach vary greatly. In the past year, we have had experiences with 4 teachers and we had very different experiences with each one. Really like Mr Anan though! read more

If you go in person they will give you give you the runaround, gaslight, and ban you. The staff is poorly trained and does not know how to handle any type of conflict resolution. They are essentially powerless to a call center who lacks basic communication skills. It's overpriced for what it is (currently $140/month for 30 minute group lessons where each kid maybe gets 10 minutes max of time) We went because it was convenient and offered weeknights lessons but I would strongly consider going elsewhere with better value and quality. A year later and still as happy as a parent as I was in the early days. My student is progressing at her pace, sometimes slower than others sometimes not. The on line platform shares with ne her current goals. The teachers are the reason you will stick to the program though I will reiterate that this program is sooooo clever. read more

My 7 yo son has been having a great time with swim lessons over the last four months. He enjoys having goals to accomplish at each of the swim levels. And it's such a treat when we check-in and he's earned a ribbon for accomplishing a goal the previous week. It really helps him to stay focused on the skills he is trying to learn at each level. I really appreciate the safety protocols that were put in place after the COVID shutdown including keeping the class sizes small and limiting 1 adult per child in the viewing area. The facilities are clean. And staff is always helpful and friendly. read more
