    Basking area

I've used this service since 2015. The owner, Michael, has been responsive, polite, honest and reliable. Kyle, in addition to being a wonderful person, is all of the above and more. He does great work keeping the pond clean, and he seems genuinely invested in keeping my fish healthy. He suggests informed solutions to problems. If there's an emergency he will come over at the earliest possible moment that he can. He also cleans the indoor turtle aquarium, and he's had great tips for how to make the lighting, heating, filter and basking areas work better. We've discussed how much room the turtle needs, how to arrange the tank to make him more comfortable, when to get a larger one, etc. If I need new equipment or supplies he will help me get it. I am truly satisfied with their service, and I hope to continue working with them for many years.

One of my crystal clear koi ponds thanks to Michael

I have been working with Michael for 2 years now, such a nice guy, great communication through texting and calls. Really knows his stuff on pond maintenance, my ponds look clean and clear year round - so I'm very happy. He converted me from someone who used to clean out my ponds every year to really just maintaining them every few weeks to not disturb the natural biology. I like this take on pond maintenance and it isn't a huge expense all at once anymore. 10/10 recommend!

In the pictures you can see the towels are soaked and this was after we had already went through a pile worth of towels trying to clean my floors. Wendell, Mix up...I am absolutely disappointed in today's service I hope Celeste, Shivani, & the other mgr who wasn't even Zach who you promised to show up each got to keep the 20's I gave them. Because yes I still paid, a lot of this could've been avoided by better communication and you sending experienced employees in cleaning. I expected you this morning and with less than a hours notice you tell me you are sending two of your employees, when I hired & called you and expected you. Never was there any mention of you sending someone else in our prior conversations. You sent me two inexperienced young ladies who didn't even have the supplies they needed, no bleach, not enough towels, & clearly not even large towels in case of an emergency like today. This service was supposed to make my life easier, so my sick husband didn't have to muster the strength to clean the tank. But all this did was leave my home a Nightmare of a mess and we have a wedding to go to so now I need to find time to clean all of my dinning room, entrance and living room floors, as well as the entrance rugs and wash all these disgusting fish water towels that are left in piles. The fact that you did not even apologize on the phone or haven't even called to check back in is completely baffling to us. The text message you just sent in my opinion clearly shows you have no regard for your customers or their experience. At the very least you should've offered to comp this service or a future service i definitely wouldn't have paid had I known this would be your non chalant response. I will just share my response and photos on yelp. I paid because at the end of the day it wasn't these poor girls fault that they weren't prepared or trained properly or sent with enough help or proper supplies. I even asked them if he had showed them the pictures or videos I had sent him of my tank prior to them agreeing to come at which they stated no. So save your money and go with someone more reliable in the South Bay because I'm all about small businesses but this one has no respect for your property or time!

There's been major changes recently! Tanks are stunning (clean, sparkly, lively) with new and interesting fish. Their live plant stock has grown and improved as well with some pretty healthy choices. The guys who work here are friendly and knowledgeable. The owner, Chris, is usually there keeping things running smoothly and I learned in our lengthy conversation that the reason for the shop declining back then was due to a family member passing and hardship stemming from that. I am SO impressed at how he pulled through and was dedicated to bringing his business back to life. So the lesson is YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH. I was quick to judge but now I know that also, running an aquarium shop has so many components/vendors you're dealing with and it's not always going to be perfect. So have some grace. These guys care about the livestock and customers. They'll do their best to be fair and remedy a situation. I've bought some great fish and they have been THRIVING. They even let me adopt a little one eyed betta that no one wanted but now she's living her best life. If I had one gripe it would be not to keep male bettas in tiny little cups, that's just cruel... But as long as they're changing water out everyday it's not enough to pull a star.

I strongly recommend this place for all your reef keeping needs. (Freshwater too!) If interested heres a little story... If not, just take my word for it and shop here. - This week I decided to relocated my reef tank for a better view in the house... biggest mistake ever! Everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong. I underestimated the weight of the tank thinking I could just get by with 90% of the water drained and removal of the sump and equipment, I was definitely wrong! I ended up pulling out everything, but the sand. Every coral, every invert, every fish... yes including 4 wrasses and a goby that all like to hide in the sand bed, I mean EVERYTHING! I then accidentally broke my rock structure into several pieces in the process of lifting them out of the tank and putting them into bins. Trying not to lose too much temp, I moved as fast as I could and used as many spare heaters as possible. It was a total disaster! After glueing back all the rock work that broke into pieces and moving everything back into the tank, I was unsure of how my fishes and corals would react to this sudden change in temp, biology and chemistry. 4 hours later, I finally got the tank running again (in it's new location,) I then noticed a huge bacterial bloom, Im guessing from the stirring of the sand bed. I then decided to do a water change to see if it would help. To add to my streak of badluck, I had no saltwater prepped. I quickly rushed to Age of Aquariums to get saltwater. That's where I was greeted by Isaac. He knew something was wrong. All I said was "I decided to move my tank" he already knew where I was going. I told him my problems and concerns and hesitancy to move my livestock back into the tank. He recommended several products to me, answered a bunch of questions I had and gave me solid advice. He also allowed me to borrow several containers for saltwater as long as i promised to bring them back. I am truly grateful. 2 days later, my tank is bouncing back. I had 0 losses. Fishes are happy and corals are all starting to open up again. Im leaving this review to share my experience with those new to the hobby, getting into the hobby and those who have been in the hobby for a long time. Age of Aquariums has both freshwater and saltwater (marine) plants, fish, corals, driftwood, and cleaning equipment. The space is large, clean, and you can tell that they take great care of their fish because they look active and not sickly. I came on an afternoon over the weekend and was excited to see so many people asking about how to care for aquatic plants, when to introduce tank mates, etc. When you enter the shop, to your left are tanks, decorative wood, and dry goods like supplements. Loosely speaking, it seems like freshwater specimens (including some hefty bettas, thank you for keeping them in nice big mason jars instead of plastic) are on the left side, while marine/saltwater are center and right. The plants you see when you enter are far healthier than what you'd find at big box stores - I myself picked up some red root floaters and an Anubias variety called white rose. I've been to many a shop growing up that were dim, damp, and generally not as well kept as Age of Aquariums. They really take their time to explain how to design a tank, care for plants, and what to look for in healthy fish. Really fun spot I would like to bring my dad to so he can upgrade his 10 gallon tank!

From the very beginning, the entire process was easy, professional, and reassuring. Barbie, the owner, was incredibly responsive and took the time to answer all of our questions. We asked for her honest opinion about whether 15-minute or 30-minute visits would be more appropriate for Harper, and we really appreciated that she gave us thoughtful, unbiased advice based on his needs rather than simply recommending the longer visit. That honesty gave us a great deal of confidence that Harper's well-being was always the priority. Our sitter, Lindsay, was absolutely wonderful. She was kind, caring, and clearly took the time to get to know Harper rather than simply stopping by to complete a checklist. The updates after each visit were one of our favorite parts of the service. We received thoughtful notes and videos by text after every visit. We especially appreciated that everything came through text rather than requiring a separate app. The communication was outstanding and gave us tremendous peace of mind while we were away. We genuinely looked forward to Lindsay's notes and videos after each visit. Her thoughtful updates let us follow Harper's progress throughout our trip, and it was wonderful to see him become more and more comfortable with her. When she told us he had even let her pick him up, we knew just how much trust he had developed. When we arrived home, Harper was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. Lindsay even left us a thoughtful handwritten note and drawing, which was such a sweet personal touch. We couldn't have asked for a better first experience with a professional pet sitter. We will absolutely use this service again and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for trustworthy, compassionate in-home pet care.
