What a great place to purchase all ur aquarium needs! Also it's family owned it seems so support local businesses! Jacob helped me get a starter thank for a Ryukin and he was so helpful and gave me the perfect supplies and instructions. He was also very knowledgeable and I trust his experience. The store was full and Jacob and maybe his mom were very helpful and supportive of everyone inside asking questions. It's clear this store and the owners are a neighborhood store and they are really here for the community to encourage people and their love for fish. The fresh water fish selection was limited and the recommendations are not suitable for the situation. I was sold a 2 gallon tank without the top and told that the pump shown will assist with the fish temporarily, while I cleaned the 20 gallon tank. NO GOOD! The pump and filter was not suitable for the fish. I caused the tank to remain cloudy and when I bought it back to the store. They refused to supply a top for the tank and stated I needed the larger pump. I could not return the smaller one and purchased the mini round pump for the holding tank. They want to profit off of product sales is seems. I will not recommend this shop. I hope this helps:( read more

I can really tell that the owner cares about the shop. It's very tidy, has a wide selection, and has a nice welcoming atmosphere. One thing I liked in particular was the amount of larger fish. Other aquarium stores focus on micro fish like Pygmy rasboras or rice fish, but Tokyo Aquarium has some healthy large sized fish(Oscar's, koi, etc.) So if you're into larger tanks and ponds, this is a great place to visit. I also like their plant variety! These days planted aquariums are the trend, so it's nice to see that the shop is putting emphasis on plants and plant related equipment. Thank you. read more

Had a pretty urgent need for a particular heater for my small tank and was so happy they carried it! For any level hobbyist, it seems like they have all your bases covered. If I weren't in a rush to save my fish I would have stayed much longer! The woman in charge was so knowledgeable and answered my bajillion questions without losing patience. I am a Discus fish lover. I have currently 2 75 gallon aquarium tank with only Discus fish. In the Los Angeles area there's 3 aquarium shops i go to that has beautiful Discus. A few days ago I went to Tokyo Aquarium in hopes I will find a Discus colors and strains i currently do not have. Let me tell you i found a red strain that was so red that I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Also the shape of the discus was so round , its size and health was something I have not seen in any shops. But this criteria was present in a tank of 20 or more discus they have. I've been going to this aquarium for several years! The owner was always very kind to me and informative. He even gave me a ride home one night when I bought a parrot cage off him and couldn't figure out how to get it to my place. This place is clean and the water is clear. The fish are healthy and living their best life and the prices are great. It's such a pleasure to have a well stocked aquarium spot in the neighborhood that is your one stop shop for all things fishy. They have a beautiful display of bettas too! I was ordering the same colorful bettas online for more! This place has an excellent variety and award winning specimens on display. I'm going to patronize this establishment for many years to come. Friend took me to Tokyo Aquarium to check out the store... Very friendly staff and came to greet us right away... Had some issues with buying fishes at other stores so I asked some questions to see if maybe he can pinpoint or see something I was doing wrong. He was patient and answered all my questions for me. Saw a fish I liked at a great price and so decided to do maintenance / check parameters before the purchase... Went back a couple of days later after checking my water parameters and doing maintenance on the tank and picked up some new family members. Got home and was acclimating my fish with a slow drip and when time came to introduce them to my tank; 1 member had passed... Couldn't believe it. Called the store right away and without hesitation told me to bring it back when I could and he would take care of it. Had the day off so I had a chance to go there and he took care of the matter right away. Even caught a few of the fish I had bought so I can choose... Great customer service!!! I bought my 1st tank here with my 3 beautiful Goldfish Joshua, was very helpful and answers all my concerns. He go beyond his service, he will help you as much as he can. Whenever my fish get sick, I always ask for his help and he will help me right away. As a noob to this hobby, it was difficult for me to understand the hobby completely, I don't just buy fish cause they're beautiful, I wanna take care of them, give them love and a comfortable life. The first thing you might find yourself saying when you walk into this store is "Wow!" I've been looking for some good live fish and aquarium stores in and near LA and this one does not disappoint. The stock of fish is impressive ranging from guppies to parrotfish. It's a hobbyists wet dream (literally)! Great options for variety of fish, but I don't think I'll be going back. Way too much miscommunication between the two owners and honestly made me feel embarrassed. One told me I can switch my koi tuxedo with another of the same value. I appreciated this and was going to spend more money by getting more fish and decor. But once I was at the register, the lady told me they don't do swaps and said the guy has no idea what the prices are and that he shouldn't have said that. But she also told me over the phone to refer to what the guy said and I'm welcome to come in. It's not the fact that I can't trade my fish - understand it's policy. It's the fact that I was told different things over the phone / when I first entered the store to when I was about to pay. Hopefully they can align better on communication as I could've saved a trip. I didn't appreciate the condescending tone of the lady and she stated to switch up the story a little bit from when she was on the phone. Went to a pumpkin patch and got a goldfish that died that same night. We came here because my son is obsessed with fish lately. This family owned business was a little busy when we came in but they still made sure to greet us and asked if we needed help. My wife and I don't know anything about fish and maintenance (hence the dead goldfish) and they began to explain the types of fish and how to keep them alive. As we picked out fish (two female beta fishes, since the males fight each other) we bought a bowl and other pieces and they would answer each of our question and also give us an explanation as to why we needed something or didn't need something and were never trying to upsell us for things we didn't need. Can't go wrong with anything there. This is the second fish store I visited near my place in DTLA and I already can't wait to go back. Their prices are insanely good. Better than any other place I've seen (online or brick and mortar). On top of that, all of my shrimp, guppies and crab have survived and flourished in the few days I've had them. As I stated before, this was the second store I visited. The first costed twice as much and 2/3 of my fish died during my 1 mile drive back home; 3/5 plants died as well, the two remaining have been looking good recently so that was when I went to here to get some better stock. 100/10 (not a typo) will come here again and again. 100/10 (again not a typo) recommend this to everyone looking for great quality, friendly AND knowledgeable employees and just a beautiful place to see with your own self. Good people and fair prices. Love a family run business. My first time in and their selection of fish was great, lots of variety and all looking very healthy. I didn't find the exact shrimp I was looking for but did end up purchasing some tank accessories, a couple Amano shrimp, and a bunch of Parrot Feather. Only place I've been to carry it and it looks so good in my tank. The light basically makes the plant look like it's covered in snow or glowing. Highly recommend checking this place out. I was told they usually get new shipments in on Monday so that would probably be the best day to pop in and check them out. read more
