My beloved fish tank was probably suffering when I realized my Fluval power filter wasn't working properly, and after trying what I usually try when it gets glitchy, I freaked and realized I was going to have to first FIND, and then hire a professional to help me. I reached out here on Yelp to the top-rated Aquatech and spoke to an angel sent from heaven! Chiao called me immediately and kindly and patiently walked me thru troubleshooting steps and told me exactly what to do when the Fluval power filter wouldn't work. Although I did not get a chance to work with Harold overall, I will say I think he is good at what he does. I was very impressed with his knowledge of freshwater fish and aquarium set up. However, I wanted to set up a saltwater tank in my living room. He took the time to come visit my home and see the layout and discuss options. He was patient with me during the initial visit in explaining how set up and service works. My main issue with Harold is that he is too overbearing for me. Maybe that works for others. First example, I told him when we first met that I wanted a saltwater tank set up. But he spent 30 minutes trying to talk me out of and go with a freshwater tank. He probably gave me every disaster story associated with saltwater tanks! I stood firm in wanting a saltwater tank and he ultimately was willing to set up a saltwater tank, so I guess that wasn't a huge deal. But it definitely slowed me down in completing the deal with him. He seemed a bit less motivated when I insisted on going with a saltwater tank. In the end, I think he prefers to do freshwater tank set up. I think freshwater set up is his wheelhouse, and it looks like most of his work on his website and on Yelp displays freshwater tanks. I was not comfortable going with him for saltwater set up because it did not seem like it was his focus. If I'm wrong, I am sure he will be on here to aggressively correct me. Another issue for me was how he went about charging me. I wanted to order a specific canopy/cabinet. I am not sure if I was out of order or not, but I looked up the manufacturer and the canopy/cabinet and the wholesale price was $1300 fully assembled. I didn't know that that was secret information that I, as the end consumer, was not supposed to know. When I asked Harold for the cost for the canopy/cabinet he would charge me, he gave me a quote of $3300. I then asked him how much he was paying wholesale for charging me $3300. He responded, "what I mark up is my business" although he advised me that he was cheaper than a pet store. After I thought about it, I actually was inclined to accept his $2000 markup. I thought maybe that's the way it works in his business. But his responses, both verbally and via text, were just too aggressive and rude. I do not think my words or texts were so rude to deserve his rather aggressive responses. Overall, I think he is very competent. I just think he is a bit overbearing for customers who want a more cooperative approach. I needed someone a bit more able to listen and slow down. I didn't feel listened to very well. Again, I don't recommend against him. But I he just wasn't the right pick for me based on my experience explained above. ******************************************** Everything Harold said in his response below is correct. I did give him a deposit and he promptly returned it to me once I decided not to go further. I think the rest of his response makes all the points I wanted to convey in my review. Also, I have now been told by three different aquarium specialists that the dish you chose for my aquarium are too large and should have never been put in there based on the size.
