Very wide variety of fish and well cleaned although they didn't greet me when coming in,the store was nice. Mostly saltwater but as a freshwater enthusiast I enjoyed the selection of fish. This is really the only store I buy fish from. I will refute some of the other reviews. Will knows more about fish than any other salesperson. He will not bother you at at any point, not bothering you unless you ask. I guess that he is not pushy and at the same time a lot of people just come to look. His prices are excellent, they may be more than some but they live. I started reefing 16 years ago and half of what I know came from Will and AO. His fresh water fish are a smaller selection but again healthy and if you ask for something that he doesn't feel comfortable about he won't sell it to you. read more

When I first walked in, it had a distinct fishy smell, which is maybe why the door was left open. Other fish stores that I've been to do not smell like that. It smelled more like a fish market that sell dead fish. I have to admit that the one reef tank near the register is beautiful and well established, but that was really it. The place was small and not much selection. One tank was crowded with 20 fully grown yellow tang. I didn't trust buying expensive fish for my saltwater aquarium from this place so I only bought a cleanup crew (snails and hermit crabs) which the store had plenty of. I bought 5 crabs and 2 of them already died by the time I got home. It didn't help that the staff carelessly spun the bag around when tying it. The one person staff was chatty with customers who were done with their purchases, taking customers who arrived after me, while I just stood there waiting. I had been there previously and the same thing happened. Unless you're a buddy of the staff, don't expect to get good customer service. My overall experience felt extremely awkward and unpleasant. The tanks at the front of the store are immaculate. This place is primarily saltwater with very little focus on freshwater. As you reached closer and closer to the back, the stock seems to suffer and less attention is paid. The staff are negligent as not one even acknowledged my presence in this tiny store. Only go for saltwater, avoid at all costs for freshwater livestock AND plants. Aquarium equipment are also saltwater specific mostly. Be sure to call before going as their hours change so frequently. read more

Maybe I am not fair to review because I did not purchase anything, but I did stop in today. Selection looks really nice. All of the livestock looks nice and healthy. All of the frogs look good. A lot of nice soft corals, and some larger colonies that are of course a little more expensive. Great looking fish store, wish my local fish store back in Indiana had this selection. They have very very beautiful fish there. Competitive prices. Unfortunately they are customers that just stay there talking and taking distracting the workers. I can't blame the staff there cus they don't want to be rude and tell the taking customers off. They are very knowledgeable so people just keep asking questions while other customers are waiting to be taken care of. I highly recommend this place. I called ahead to check last Sunday if they had a particular type of goldfish in stock. I spoke to a friendly lady of the phone who told me they at least had one or two of them and the closing time. I went to the store, it was very clean, with clean clear tanks. We were the only customers on a Sunday afternoon and were prompted greeted and helped. I purchased my fish, the lady working there was very friendly, she told me about her own goldfish at home. She securely double bagged the fish for me. The little goldie is very healthy, eating well, and has perked up my 3 yr old goldfish (he lost his friend last week). I'm sure she will grow into a big beautiful fish. i found this store on fishfinder and they listed their hours up until 6pm on Sundays. I went to a few stores in Jersey and on my way back all to Staten Island stopped there at 5:20. With the workers still there i asked to come take a look around and they denied me, Told him the site lists them still open and he looked at the site through the window on my phone and just ignored me. I visited their site to see what they have and you cannot see anything. No pictures, no prices horrible layout. Looks like they only post pics on twitter... huh.... read more

I have had a completely different experience with this store compared to the other reviewers. Yes, the owner doesnt follow you around the store or spark up meaningless conversation, but if you ask him a question about fish or coral he is extremely accessible and knowlegable. Personally, I prefer the employees/owner of the store not hound me while Im there. The owner supplies nothing but quality fish, coral, and dry goods. I highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a trustworthy, knowledgable, and well kept fish store. read more

This is the only fish store I'll go to. I started up a salt water tank from animals and things and everything went wrong. I walked in there with tears in my eyes and they solved all problems! The fish stores I went to before all acted like shady car salesmen. Will and Gary and the rest of the guys are extremely knowledgeable. They won't let me get anything that I can't have in my reef tank. Any other place will sell anything for a profit. Besides the great fish selection they also come out and service my tank every 2-3 weeks. They have a customer for life! read more

I've been going to aquatic obsessions for about 6 years now. They reliably have a good selection of healthy fish and corals, as well as a good selection of livestock. I actually like that they don't follow you around the store, but let you tell them when you are ready to make a purchase. Regarding the coral prices in one of the posts below, I've found that they may not post a price on every frag, but they are getting better about it over time. I have also had good luck with having them order in specific fish that they don't usually stock. Overall, one of my favorite LFS's. read more

I have to agree with 1 of the other posters. No...they don't hound you or follow you around to no end. I prefer that. When I want help I will ask for it. And from my experience there people just bring the family in as if it were the zoo and then wonder why no one takes them seriously. Leave the baby stroller, cotton candy and sippy cups home. Come in with good questions and they've got the answers. The staff is the most knowledgeable that I've come across. All of their info is spot on. The prices are reasonable also. Don't believe me...go to Absolutely Fish in Clifton and compare the prices on the same fish. Trust me...you'll be back and respect their business. If they don't have it and you want it they will get it for you. Great store with great staff. read more

I think this place is great! I am always impressed with the selection and happy with the service. I've been to many fish stores throughout the state and I have to say that this is one of my favorite places to go. I actually find the owner to be very helpful and honest, as opposed to some other stores where they would sell you anything just to make a sale. I'm starting my first tank and stopped by to get a few freshwater fish. I wasn't bothered as I walked around and staff was available once I asked for help. All my questions were answered and they didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. In fact owner (I assume) suggested I not buy the assortment of fish I wanted but told me to wait as that would increase the fishes chances of survival. He also wasnt condescending as were a couple of other workers in other stores. I'm going back next week for more fish. read more

I agree that you will not be harassed the minute you walk into the store. However, as a customer you are also allowed to approach them. After I introduced myself he showed me the nicest fish that I have seen ever in a store with prices 50% lower than I found on the Internet. I went here exclusively when I had my tank up and running. I visited other places, many had kids that knew nothing about reef keeping, the people working never took their eyes off their phones or their prices were insane. I was not going to drive 1hr each way just to buy overpriced fish, corals and Etc. The owner and staff know their stuff. Tanks are clean, fish healthy for the most part, good prices on corals. I don't like being followed or asked if I need help countless times. Let me look around first. If I like what I see then I'll ask for help! read more
