We had water damage to our entranceway which required replacement of the oak flooring. This flooring is repeated throughout most of the ground floor and the rest of it is of uncertain age but suspected to be approximately 60 years old since the original house was built. We have lived in the house for over 20 years and it was here when we moved in. As there were several areas that needed partial repair in the older rooms, we decided to have those areas repaired at the same time. Then we added a full sand and refinish everywhere, except one room which was just too difficult to empty and had been refinished a different shade. This meant staining the repair in that room to match the existing finish. The match was impossible to identify. We then decided to have the living room carpet removed and replaced with matching oak hardwood. This living room was not part of the original house, so not built with hardwood flooring and we decided to make the whole ground floor hardwood. All these activities meant moving furniture several times to make access possible. Especially as we delayed stages to accommodate painters in the finished rooms before moving furniture into those rooms to access the next areas. Jaymes team, led by Sam and his brother Nelson, did a great job with new installation and patching repairs in the older areas as needed. These guys were amazing. Very enthusiastic and willing to explain certain actions and offer suggestions to our queries. We mentioned squeaks in the floor in the older part of the house and they immediately asked to go under the floor to inspect, then wedged several areas of the subfloor to deal with the squeaks. An entirely voluntary action on their part. They also did a great cleanup job every day before leaving. We were happy to have them in our home. read more

In mid-June, my husband and I were looking for a hardwood flooring company to come in and refinish, repair, and partially replace our sixty-six year old oak hardwood floors in our 3 bedrooms, entry way, and our living room.  These floors have been covered mostly by wall to wall carpet and some ceramic tile since way before we bought our house nine years ago.   Jaymes was the only flooring contractor to actually pick up the phone and be interested in learning about our project.  In fact, Jaymes called me back later in the day and said he was available to come over and take a look at our job.  He provided us a quote within a day to repair, partially replace and refinish all these floors.  The price seemed realistic for the job.    Later in the week, being curious by nature, my husband and I pulled back some of the carpet in the living room where the addition was done countless years ago by the prior owners.  We discovered a nightmare underneath the carpet as there was only carpet padding and concrete.  There was no wood at all there, and the concrete floor was not even at all. Some parts were at the same level as the existing sub floor where the old hardwood ended; others were very irregular. This was a game changer and not at all what we were expecting.  There was no way make all the floors in our house look the same, as the living room old oak flooring would have to be covered with new.    I called Jaymes to let him know what we discovered and that it would change the scope of work dramatically. He came over right away to take a look.  He agreed that it wouldn't look as nice having the living room different than the rest of the house; there would need to be transition pieces between the living room and the rest of the house. Jaymes brought over samples of really nice maple hardwood flooring that could be installed everywhere over the old hardwood.  We decided on gorgeous bird's-eye 5 inch wide maple planking.  He provided us with a quote the next day.    Upon receiving the revised quote, we called him to schedule the job to start on June 29th.  His workers Samuel and Angel came over and promptly started work removing the old tile flooring and putting down concrete to fill the gap where the floor under the carpet was such a mess in the living room.    The job went very smoothly and my husband being in the commercial ceiling business for 35 years knows straight and true when he sees it.  Jaymes and his team know what they are doing and it shows.   Quality is never cheap and we're so glad we spent the money. I found Arbor Hardwood (and Jaymes, the owner) first through Home Advisor and looked him up here on the ever-so-trustworthy Yelp. While he didn't have as many reviews as other flooring companies I received estimates from, Jaymes was reasonable in price and had much better customer service. With that, I decided to take the chance and go with Jaymes. And boy are we glad we did!! We live in an old 1930s home with original oak hardwood floors that were thinning and splintering and giving (literally, no joke) splinters in our children's feet. When my husband got a splinter in his big toe, he couldn't take it anymore and so we called Jaymes to install new vinyl flooring for us... like STAT! Jaymes showed up on Day 1 with his 2 trusty guys and they got to work immediately. They moved our furniture from room to room as they worked to install our flooring and kept our place really clean (and my furniture and piano dent free!). My house has odd corners and the rooms aren't perfectly square so Jaymes and his team had a lot of corners and angles to cut (which were so precise!). It took Arbor 6 full days to finish our entire home. The attention to detail is always hard to come by with contractors (who tend to do Mickey Mouse jobs just to be done and leave), but Jaymes is the FIRST person we've worked with whose attention to detail out-beats my Type A + Perfectionist personality - and that makes me happy! We are in LOVE with our new hardwood floors! I found Arbor through Angie's list, where they have many glowing reviews singing their praises. And rightly so - these guys do incredible work. I spoke to Jaymes initially. He provided a quote and an estimate of time to complete the job. At that time, we hadn't yet moved in to our house and didn't have keys, so this estimate was based on information I gave over the phone. I had spoken to several other flooring companies at the same time, but I liked Jaymes the best. He seemed the most knowledgeable and made me feel like Arbor would do an excellent job. However, other companies had given me a cheaper quote for the work. Jaymes was happy to match our lowest quote, which was so great because I wanted to use Arbor the most. Samuel was the lead on our project. We wanted to sand and refinish the existing hardwood floors in a lighter color. But when he and his team arrived, they discovered a problem with our floors that I didn't know about. Sanding was not an option - the floors were not solid hardwood and sanding would have destroyed the manufactured planks. Samuel alerted Jaymes, and Jaymes quickly pivoted and offered us 3 different solutions to achieve the look we wanted. We ended up choosing to rip out the existing manufactured planks and replace them all with solid white oak 5" wide planks. And let me tell you - the end result is stunning. The work was just finished 2 days ago, and my husband and I can't stop saying "I love our floors!" "Wow these floors really look good" and "I'm so glad we did this" We sound ridiculous but we're just so happy with the end product!! It's transformed our whole home. It makes our 1947 bungalow look like new construction, but with charm. Oh, and the crew worked late for 5 nights in a row to get this all done in time before our move! Because of the way the job changed, the expected timeline doubled. But Jaymes was aware of our moving date and promised the job could be finished without delaying our move. This required a lot of extra time on Samuel's part, and extra hands on the job. Jaymes didn't charge us for any of these extras. Overall, this was a fantastic experience start to finish. Usually the first or second thing someone says when they walk into my place is "I love your floors!". When I was in the process of buying my new place, I received a glowing recommendation from my friend for Arbor after she had used them to redo her floors, and after checking a few other companies found that Arbor came in at a reasonable price. Not high, not low, reasonable. Jaymes was very responsive, and that sealed the deal for me. I was out of the country when the floors were being done and very nervous about that since I had been overseeing all of the renovations on my place, checking in every morning and every night to make sure things were done correctly before huge mistakes were potentially made. But Jaymes was great about staying in touch and keeping me updated, and the best part was, he and his team took care of things I didn't even have to think about like coordinating the transitions between bathroom tile and wood floor areas and fixing my front door which was getting stuck from the floor transition being too high.
