Our wood floors were last refinished 18 years ago, when we first moved into our 1958 house. While many areas had only minor wear, the area under the dining table had suffered a lot of damage, with bare wood exposed in several places. We were looking for someone to do a general buff and finish on all the hardwood, but also with a specific focus on fixing the dining area. Of the five businesses I contacted, four said they would not do a partial sand/stain, but would only redo all of the flooring, sanding and restaining everything, which would have been far more than we were planning on spending for this project. Wilmer of Better Surfaces and Services was the only one willing to work with us on what we wanted. He was very upfront about the potential issue with a visual difference between the restained dining area and the existing stained flooring, but also discussed how he would do his best to mix the new stain so that it matched as close as possible, and work on the transition area to minimize any difference. I hope the pictures show what an amazing job Wilmer and his team did. The pictures were taken at different times of day, but they are all of the dining area, which needed the most work. In fact, one of my relatives was thoroughly confused upon seeing the final result: she knew we had planned on just refinishing, but upon seeing the floor, thought they must have instead replaced the dining area with all new hardwood! In addition to the great work, Wilmer was very good about addressing all of our concerns and keeping us up to date on the work, as we had to be out of town during all of it. His employees were very conscientious about locking up our house when they were done each day (my friend let them in every morning). We had old, salvageable wood underneath the carpet in our new home and they were not only able to bring it back to life...but replaced the few bad boards and matched them perfectly. With regret, I found That when getting the information for Wilmer to Recommend to a friend... I had not left a review. A couple years ago I brought him in to install ceramic tile on what was a previously carpeted slab foundation. And quite frankly from everything to the price.. The speed and the workmanship... I hired Wilmer for my laminate floor and baseboard removal. I called a lot of flooring companies and he had the most reasonable rate. Since it's only for a demo job, I figured I'd go with the best rate. It turned out, my laminate floor was actually wood glued to the subfloor. We renovated our home and fitted a very expensive front door and a custom made stairs rail. Unfortunately they were made of different wood and the colour did not match. Wilmer was recommended to us by our trusted contractor, he came evaluated the problem and got to work for several days, he bleached the different wood five times to bring them to their lightest colour and then proceeded to stain them with several coats of varnish finely sprayed until they matched perfectly. I found Wilmer through yelp by reading the reviews and looking at the pictures of the work he had completed at different jobs. For me hiring someone for wood refurbishing from online was a big risk as I was very particular about the wood floor and wanted someone to do an excellent job in getting the wood grains put of the hard wood floor and make it look appealing to the eyes. From the first day till the day when the job was completed Wilmer did an excellent job. He was fully dedicated towards the work and understood what things I wanted to get done and how I wanted the final finish to look like. His team was proactive, efficient and fast in removing the carpet, taking the nails out and cleaning up the mess before start the sanding. There was a little damage wood identified when the carpet was removed to which Wilmer stated that he will get this fixed and the complete floor will look alike and I won't be able to feel any difference between the repair wood and the original wood and I took his word which was the best decision as when the floor was sanded and finished it looked alike and there was no difference seen in the repaired part and the original part.
