The books are used, and the selection isn't particularly discriminating. Most of the fiction is popular, and there's a sprinkling of specialty topic areas. The cafe is the first thing noticed when entering. When we were there, friendly locals were sitting at the tables, chatting. One of the most surprising "side" hacks was a sign informing visitors that they also do dry cleaning. It made me smile.

This is a lovely little herb farm that would be easy to miss on your drive between Ladysmith and…read moreNanaimo. The signs on the way out were somewhat difficult to see due to overgrown weeds the last time I was out that way, which didn't help. However, if you can find your way out there, it's worth a look! The farm is very compact, but they've managed to fit a lot in! The grounds are completely planted with the herbs they sell, and the first thing I generally do when I get out there is to take a walk around and enjoy the scents, which change with every step you take. There's a bench and a small gazebo for resting, and a small fishpond in one corner. In the middle of all this stand several small wooden buildings, covered from the elements but open to the air, wherein they house the ready-to-sell herbs. The prices are highly reasonable and the signage is useful for not only telling you what herb you're looking at, but what it can be used for as well. The main building is, again, fairly small, but they have a very well-stocked gift shop full of products that are made from the same herbs they grow and well, and the prices are, again, very reasonable. All in all, if you're looking for a place to shop locally, this is a great place to stop - not to mention the relaxation of being far enough away from the highway to enjoy our Island weather - and the sound of wildlife all around you - in peace and quiet.
