From the outside, this store that's tucked away in a residential area doesn't look like much…read more Inside, it's immediately obvious that there's more than than a bookstore going on. The books are used, and the selection isn't particularly discriminating. Most of the fiction is popular, and there's a sprinkling of specialty topic areas. The cafe is the first thing noticed when entering. When we were there, friendly locals were sitting at the tables, chatting. One of the most surprising "side" hacks was a sign informing visitors that they also do dry cleaning. It made me smile.

I did not recieve the book I had ordered because of a ridiculous problem with Canada Post (the key…read morewas not left in my mailbox for me to open the box to get my book. So without my consent or even trying to contact me or simply CHECKING MY BOX TO MAKE SURE THE KEY WAS EVEN PUT INSIDE, Canada Post returned the book to sender which could have cost me over $50.00). So the fact that I did not recieve the book in the mail is not the fault of the book seller at all. However: I would have been absolutely happy to have left a 5-star review and given the owner extra money on top of the sales price to make sure I got the book, but as it turns out-- I reached out to the seller to try and figure out a solution, and she did not return my phone call which is not the best thing to do when you're running a business. In the end, I did recieve a refund for the book (but not the delivery charge) so I can't say that I'm pleased to have wasted a whole month of my time plus around $20, and I didn't even get the book that I was wanting. Which was extremely disappointing as it was going to be a gift for a family member. ****Public Service Announcement: If you recieve a message saying that your parcel has been delivered to your community mail box but there is no key left for you, contact Canada Post immediately or they will return it to sender and you will be wasting time, energy and money trying to figure out what happened.****

We bought a couple of books and then went to another bookstore right beside it and found more selection and much better prices. On the plus side, this store had a decent selection of books and was well organized. These are the reasons this store earned two stars instead of one. When we went to the cash to purchase my books, the owner was surely, stoney-faced, just ripped my receipt from the debit machine, didn't look up or thank us and went back to sitting behind her desk.

I was an employee before they shut down and reopened, for context. They laid us off with no sort of…read moreseverance, expecting the old team to stay with the company (telling us all not to look for new jobs), and was promised that we would be contacted about being rehired as soon as they reopened. No effort was made on this. Additionally, prices are absurd. But they blame it on the market fluctuations. This is wildly incorrect. The markups are done for 100% profit and are not considered with the going market, especially for children's card games. Lastly, all security cameras are live videos. The store doesn't have access to this. The only ones who do are corporate, where they spy on workers and make sure they are doing "the right things." Many times I would be demoing product for customers, where they would then call the store and yell at me for not working. Don't support this company. They exploit both employees and their customers.

My husband and I woke up to rain on Sunday, we decided a family games day would be fun. We went to…read morethe mall to find something to go home and play. We went to Mind Games. We're new to Nanaimo and had never even heard of it. We were immediately (Covid safe rules being followed 100% by both employees on shift) welcomed in the store, the male employee helped us with several questions, and came up with a few cool games for us to play He went above and beyond. Super friendly and helpful. The female employee at the till advised their electronic payments were down, she politely asked if I minded going to am ATM in the mall. I had no issue with that, we got cash, came back and paid for the games. The female employee then gave me $3 cash and said this is for the $3 ATM fee you had to pay to get cash. My mouth dropped, wow. I was amazed they would even think of that, and actually refund It to me. Needless to say: we were so impressed with the products in the store, how clean the store was, the customer service shown by both employees, we will definitely be back often, and pass the word on to others.
