Online they seem to be pretty nice and have great photos of every room so you know more or less what you are going to get once you get there. My flight was getting in at 11:00 pm so was worried how I would check in but when I made my reservations, the nice lady told me no problem that the key would be left under the mat! Well drove about 1 hour from Eau Claire airport and got to the motel after 12 midnight. Sure enough, there was my key. Walked in and my room was nice and a toasty 65 degrees (was 35 outside!). Very quaint and cozy and just felt really nice. I had no problem going to sleep. Next morning, I go for the continental breakfast and there is a nice spread of easy fixings. Check in and everything is a breeze. Friendly staff and nice clean facilities all around. If you are planning on visiting the Highground, this is the perfect place to stay. There are lots of hiking trails as part of the Memorial Park and lots of wildlife and nature to see. A great place to unwind. And the price was perfect!

We received a call from our kids that have a small farm in Black River Falls and our son was in the hospital and they needed help taking care of the stock. So we did what parents do and jumped in the RV and headed to Wisconsin .....in March. There were NO RV parks open until May and we were a lot worried we would get there with no place to hook up. We gave Theron a call and he said there was nothing to worry about, he would take care of us, and he did! What a pleasure it has been. We survived the worse snowstorm of the year and Theron was there to make sure everything was working and we were comfortable. We will definitely be back to stay when we come to visit the kids. McSweets is the Sweet Spot in Black River Falls!

Black River State Forest is chock full o' awesome things to do!…read more You can bike, hike, snowshoe, ATV, ride horses, dive, swim, camp, paddle, fish, among many other options. The staff at the main office at the Castle Mound Campground are friendly and helpful regardless of where you may be camping or recreating. I frequently camp with my paddling groups at Castle Mound prior to paddling the Black River. The sites are well laid out, and if you reserve sites 12, 13, or 35, you are closest to both the outhouses and the wood house. Racks of wood are available for $3. Just load up the handy rack located next to the shelter, and deposit your $3 in the collection box. Each site has a fire ring with a cantilever grill grate. Be sure to bring some aluminum foil if you want to cook right on the grate! The showers located near the main office are fairly clean and easy to use compared to those at many other state parks. They have a good potable and non-potable water station you can hit on your way out for the day's activities. The group campsite at the north end of the State Forest is very spacious. They only allow a relatively small amount of people to camp there, considering the space could host a county fair. It used to be a horse camp. Now it hosts group sites with large pads for RVs and campers. The rangers we dealt with at this location were very friendly, and the one high school kid who was assisting was a great help in finding where to access some of the local trout streams (a challenge in this watershed because almost every stream is in a box canyon). The only drawback to camping at the group camp, the East Fork Campground, or the indoor group camp (which I want to try this winter) is that they are pretty far from the paddling locations we use. It's a hefty drive from the Interstate to the north end of the State Forest. If you're in the area and the timing is right, stop in at the Ho-Chunk Pow Wow which takes place on the northwest edge of the State Forest. It's quite an experience, and the announcer is hilarious: "We're doing the same thing tomorrow. The same... damn... thing."

OMG the food was amazing. The view of the golf course was beautiful. If I lived in this area, I would be here every Friday. We returned on Sunday morning for brunch. We were not disappointed. If the food and view were not enough, we were treated as if we were old friends by the restaurant staff. It was obvious, that the regular patrons were welcomed guests. More importantly, we were welcomed in the same manner. I can't wait until next year, when we return to the area for the Ashley for the Arts Festival.

I was here as a vendor to DJ for a wedding recently and have great things to say about this venue,…read morethe owners were friendly, warm, and helpful when I arrived early to check in and set up. Both the drive to and the property itself was beautiful. The bathrooms were also clean and comfortable. The dance floor was placed on the opposite corner of the huge room from the bar, a big faux pas when it comes to reception layout since dance floor and bar go hand in hand. Decor was great and the lighting was effective but they dismissed me asking them to turn the lights off on the dance floor, eventually turning them to 25% and finally 50% for that quarter of the room while the rest of the space stayed at 100% light all night long. To be clear the overhead lights on the dance floor should be turned completely off and the rest of the room typically is dimmed during the late night portion of a wedding or you're damaging guest engagement on the dance floor and harming the clients vision for their wedding celebration. The clients already had a special lit sign and DJ lighting planned for the dance floor which did not have the same effect with the venue lighting staying on. This was disappointing and confusing and showed a lack of experience and expertise in hosting events. Laurie specifically gave gaslighting responses claiming that keeping the lights up has never been a problem for them before which sounds like a disservice to their clients. I hope they can improve in the future and aim to serve their clients needs throughout their whole event and I wish nothing but the best for all upcoming couples. We all had a great time celebrating the newlyweds despite these small issues but some specific changes could have made a big impact on the success of the event overall.
