The child running to the door. Always excited to go to school.

Thank you, Ms. Cherry. And thank you to the students, teachers, parents, and staff who made these years everything that they were. This scriptures summary what Joy has learned since May 2021. Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Through my daughter's education, I have seen the nurturing of all teachers and her being biblically guided. It is ACS Preschool Teachers who have been dedicated in making our children time here worth it. All teachers uphold a Christian values, purposeful teaching and meaningful play. So, thank you to the teachers here, the love you have for the children shines through them. Thank you to all the parents who have willingly given their time volunteering here, and who have raised such wonderful children! Looking ahead, our children are very well-equipped to take on the next part of their educational lives. They have strong foundations and we feel very confident that we have given the children a great start. They have learned many priceless lessons. Thank you teachers, we entrusted you all to care of my child and now Joy begins Kindergarten pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser more responsible and more mature then she was at 2 years old. Teachers are dedicated to guide and encourage every child to pursue excellence in whatever they do. Thank you, Ms. Chery for your leadership and all of the teachers here for the years of sowing seeds of faithfulness into every student's life. God has answered the desire of my heart. One of the biggest satisfactions I have as a parent is seeing my child blossom under the gentle care and love of all the teachers in this wonderful school.

    Reading Test Questions

We loved ACS from preK-3rd grade. We chose an Arcadia school bc AUSD has a reputation for high academic achievement, which holds for ACS, but for 4th grade, we are disappointed w/instruction level. Math - Still Reviewing 1-Digit Multiplication Back 2 School Night: the teacher Mrs. T_ _ _ _ said students would have multiplication fact quizzes weekly. Odd since @4th grade, they should know their facts, esp since they had great 2nd & 3rd grade teachers, who drilled/killed facts. But we figured they would quickly review & students would move @own pace. Not so. The class goes through only one 1-digit multiplication fact/wk (Tue & Thur). They are now on 7s. A month ago we asked Mrs.T if students could move @their own pace. She said no & that these aren't graded anyway. We asked the principal & he said Mrs.T felt the class needed 2 review. If this is true, then previous teachers didn't do their job...? Math book (common core): our child comes home annoyed bc she feels Mrs.T doesn't teach, per se vs. model (talking aloud 2 herself as she is solving) &/or just gives students answers. Reading Comp Tests - Great questions but there's no point when answers are given before test! The test is in multiple choice format. We feel our child/the class can answer these questions in sentence style (e.g. What is the setting of the story?) bc answering multiple-choice 4 every test won't give the critical thinking needed to write essays/college entrance exams. Mrs.T said no. Gave no reason why. We then asked principal & now she's writing her answers. However, we noticed issues. When we studied w/our child, she wouldn't expand her answers. She explained that she couldn't bc Mrs.T had given the answers. Our kid had memorized the answers & knew what she was supposed 2 write! We asked Mrs.T to not give test answers beforehand, but she refused, saying the test is hard for the class. We have since learned another parent expressed concern about this. Mrs.T told that parent she was helping students find the answers in the text, which our kid says she's doing now, but she wasn't a month ago. This wasn't Mrs.T 's plan from the start bc she would have told us. Parents expressing concerns have caused change. We have decided 2 have our kid revert back to multiple-choice testing bc it's obvious Mrs.T does not want to administer or evaluate academic enrichment work in any meaningful way. Our child received a C- (7/10 score) on last reading test. One question, she was wrong, but if this was a multiple-choice test, she probably would've nailed it. But for the other 2 questions, she wrote thoughtful answers but bc it didn't match the answer key, Mrs.T marked them wrong. See 4 yourself (images of kid's & teacher's answers in red). We didn't ask Mrs.T to reevaluate score bc we've asked already (see ecosystem paper image). Our kid scored 6 out 8 bc she didn't finish a box. She said she had asked Mrs.T if she could draw an arrow from the previous answer 2 the final box bc the questions were similar. Our kid heard her say ok, but Mrs.T marked her off, saying she misunderstood her. Our kid asked Mrs.T for opportunity 2 finish but she refused, saying she already graded it. She shouldn't be penalized for miscommunication! No Homework We asked Mrs.T for enrichment work since our kid was finishing hw in class. After 2 weeks of "enrichment" packets, our kid was unmotivated, saying these weren't graded. We asked Mrs.T if at least she got extra credit. She said no. We don't need meaningless busy work! Mrs.T is not new 2 teaching. She's worked 7 years @public schools. She started ACS @4th grade. We heard parents unhappy; so old principal moved her to 1st grade last yr. She is back @4th bc she asked new principal. Unprofessional Actions *She told class 3rd grade teacher taught them cursive incorrectly. Don't throw colleagues under the bus bc you want 2 teach old school cursive. *The class asked 4 positive incentives/prizes. She shamed them, saying, "Don't you think you're too old for toys?" Yet, she has Hello Kitty dolls on her desk. If you don't do toys, then just say so. Don't shame them & be hypocritical. *Back 2 School Night: Mrs.T didn't have parent-teacher conf sign-ups ready, saying she needed 2 check the dates, but the dates were set bc school calendar was sent 2 weeks earlier. *Our kid asked what field trips were planned. She said she didn't know. *Beginning of yr: 4th grade had similar P.E. schedule as 3rd grade. 4th grade wanted to do P.E. w/3rd bc that teacher taught P.E. skills. Mrs.T switched P.E. days & has them do laps & what ends up being recess. Mrs.T talks a good game but is evasive & just ok. She does the minimum amount of work. Principal can only say she's following curriculum. For tuition we pay $812/month@12 months (increasing 5% next yr). We don't mind paying 4 academic excellence & are grateful for past teachers, but we don't want to pay for mediocrity. Stars will be added/removed 2 update this review if anything changes.

In the beginning, our son (18-month old) had challenges being with a group of friends and Mr. Dave, Ms. Ranum, and teachers had so much patience and positive attitude working with my son to overcome it. They assisted with the potty train process which helped us so much. The school also handled Covid situation well, and we never had to worry about it. Our son enjoys his time here. He makes good friends and he loves all the teachers from three different age classes. This place makes our parenting life to have one less thing to worry about. I recommend this school to all our friends and families. We have signed up our second son to be here and we will suggest you to take a tour to see it yourself!

Our child began with major separation anxiety, but thanks to the teachers who stuck by her side, she began dancing and having fun in as little as four days and the crying at drop-off stopped after 2 weeks, at which point she began to run inside to be with her teachers and friends. The facility is very clean, safe, and built with growing kids in mind. They have a really good curriculum and great activities in each classroom. In the toddler class (ages 18-36mo & where our child was) they have a 6-to-1 child/teacher ratio. If I had to complain about one thing, it's that I wish we could get more photos/videos and updates throughout the day, but since I also don't want the teachers on cell-phones all day long, it's an okay trade off knowing that our kid will come home happy everyday and sometimes with cool art projects in hand! The staff also does a great job notifying us of any incidents (booboos, bites, runny noses) that need our immediate attention or knowledge. They have a good, effective covid policy in place too and if I'm not mistaken only one child tested positive for covid since the pandemic began, but the child stayed home and quarantined. The entire school/staff was then dismissed to get tested and the results were all negative. To protect everyone, they check everyone's temps upon arrival and they won't hesitate to send children home for high temps or any covid-like symptoms. I would highly recommend anyone to come here, especially if it's their child's first school. They do a wonderful job.

Not only do they continue to help our daughter grow and give her the personalized attention she needs in class, on the playground, in daycare. But they have gone to the whole way to the mat for her to advocate for the essential services she will need to continue to learn and grow. Our daughter may well be stronger and even safer years after she graduates from AMS because of their limitless advocating for her. Separately, our daughter is now communicating at what an independent assessment has said is a level 1.5 years above her age group. And she's an increasingly confident and determined little person. Someplace else, she might be reciting more things by rote or I don't even know what skill someone might need a toddler to have. Instead, she can and will tackle anything. It just doesn't occur to her there's something she can't do. They are an enormous part of that. And just great partners in all aspects. I'm a better mom because I know them. Arcadia Montessori school is not just a school of magnificently talented, dedicated and kind people. They *love* their students. They advocate for and protect kids way beyond what one could reasonably expect from anyone other than immediate family. They just bring tears to my eyes - more than I'd like to admit! And just yesterday when I went to pick up our daughter who otherwise has deep separation anxiety said - mama, can you come back a little later?

Both kids started at AMS around the age of 2.5, after they were potty trained. Both absolutely thrived in this environment and saw incredible development milestones throughout their time at AMS. The teachers and administration at this school are simply incredible. Each teacher and administrator showed an incredible amount of genuine attention and affection for our children. As children move through the school, through the different classes across age ranges, and through their development, each teacher has age-appropriate and individual child specific support for the little ones. We unfortunately started at this school during Covid so we had limited access and engagement early on. However, as things reopened, we had an ability to come to the school for events, come make independent visits, and engage more in the day-to-day activities of our kids. Under the leadership of Mrs. Cheryl Roberts, our children were provided with an incredibly supportive environment to learn, grow, and to most importantly be kids. Our children showed incredible development throughout their time at AMS. I can confidently say that their reading, speech, math, and life skills developed significantly because of the attention and help of the teachers and administration of the school.

We have loved all of his teachers, he enjoys being there, and we know that he is safe and cared for. The program is play-based and developmentally appropriate. The teachers do not just "let the kids play" and supervise-- they work hard to curate activities and materials that grow children's' knowledge of the world through weekly themes, and they attentively support the children to build their social/emotional and cognitive growth through play. The school communicates clearly about learning themes, meals, incidents, and events. In the summer, the staff put together a truly wonderful series of fun events such as splash day, a puppet show performance, and junior Olympics. Ms. Denise, Mr. Viet, Ms. Sharon, Ms. Susan, Ms. Annie, Ms Rosie (the school's chef!!) and all the other teachers have left the biggest stamp on my daughter's (and our family's) life. There has not been one day she has said she did not want to go to school, which I can only attribute to the fun atmosphere and wonderful, loving teachers. Holidays are special here, birthdays are special here, summer is fun (splash day! Science man! Magic man!), mothers and fathers are celebrated (Ms Denise knows how to throw a party!)- the entire school Is centered around love and happiness. Aside from the great every day curriculum, courses like gymnastics, mandarin, and tap class are also available for those interested (during school time which is great for busy parents who work and can't necessarily get the kids to afterschool activities). A phone app is used to update parents with pictures, nap checks, daily calendar of events, etc. You always know exactly what is going on with your child that day. On top of all this, the teachers are very conscious of health allergies, eczema, sun protection, and providing a well balanced meal. But both Ms. Beth and Principal Ms. Marie gently reassured me: "Don't worry, she will catch up soon." And they were absolutely right. At first, she was too shy to speak at school due to the language barrier. But now, she has made so many friends and proudly brings home her artwork to share with us. What surprised me most is how well she's taken care of herself--and even our whole family! She now chats with our neighbors in English like it's no big deal. It's hard to believe this is the same little girl who used to cling to me quietly at drop-off. Her physical strength and coordination have also improved dramatically. Before preschool, she would get tired just from walking and always wanted me to carry her. Now, she runs around joyfully and hikes without a single complaint--her energy is amazing! None of this would have been possible without the love, care, and gentle guidance of the amazing teachers at Arcadia Episcopal Preschool. My entire family feels so grateful to have found such a nurturing and supportive school community. This preschool gave our daughter the strongest and happiest foundation before stepping into TK--and for that, we are truly thankful. As a parent our greatest desire is to love, nurture and guide my child. At AEP the staff...or Angels, whom go above and beyond the call of duty. In our experience of deciding where to entrust our precious Son factors of security, environment and development were paramount in our choice. I/we have made no greater choice than having enrolled our child here. Each and every staff member is truly an extension of our family. The rapport one builds is a lifetime from the parent-staff, staff-child and child-child is incredible. From our parental experience there is no handbook thorough enough to mentor us. But from Ms. Marie (director), Ms. Kim (assistant director), Ms. Anjali (Turtle class), Ms. Beth (seahorse class), Ms. Vicky (bear class), Ms. Frannie (dolphin class), Ms. Kelly, Ms. Debbie (retired), Ms. Stacy (retired) and Ms. Ivette (food preparer) they bestowed upon us throughout the years their invaluable insight and knowledge. Truthfully as 1st time parents they not only guide our child, but instill in us lessons that aide our adventures of parenting. We genuinely adore them and thank God for having blessed us with their unwaivering love and devotion. If I may elaborate on why AEP is so glorious is through the eyes of a toddler whom confides in us how loved and thrilled he is with his teachers and staff. It feeds our soul on how these Angels so selflessly yearns to mold these energetic bundles of joy. My Son would tell us of the heart felt hugs, the giggles, the conversations he has that makes him smile. As he express how he loves them and never wants to leave this school. Curricular wise is age based and is undoubtedly logically implemented. From encouragement and guidance the teachers fortify their needs through play and training. We often are so excited to see what he has acquired. I have watched my son develop in so many aspects that has layed a foundation I feel which will only propel him for the future. And I cannot express the shear joy we have had seeing him progress from an infant to toddler. From day one AEP has instilled confidence in our little one and us as well. I would enroll myself if I could ;p. As mentioned my son's love of this exemplary school is so great he decided to stay another year. You will experience unbridled joy as we have when your little ones sees their teachers off campus and schoolmates. It has been unequivocally the best decision we have made. I humbly and deeply thank ever Angel of AEP as they have touched our hearts, souls and minds. We are proud to be apart of AEP now and forever.

From feeding the goats to swinging high up in the sky amidst the oaks, he developed a reverence for nature, and a sense of wonder, learned how to be in community with others, and listened to stories that fed his soul. From hikes on the forest trails to collecting eggs from the chickens, from digging in the dirt to helping prepare the fresh vegan meals, to sewing pouches for treasures like acorns found along the way, it was childhood as it should be. Thank you, VPG! I should add that I know that the campus is in a new place now, but I also know that with Papa Geoff leading the way, the heart of the school, and the deep respect for children will always be there.

We cherish our time at Village. It's meant so much to our family. Yes, it was a terrific school for…read moreour little but it was really also a place for us as parents to grow and truly grasp what it means to BE parents in today's culture without sacrificing the values of the past that we hold dear. Ms. Molly's parenting classes, and all the community gatherings, where we could speak so openly and freely about the challenges of parenting were life changing. Our little one has such a foundation of love of community, kindness to all, generosity, love of nature, and brave and fiery spirit that was truly NURTURED & FOSTERED at Village. Best of all, this place has a sense of humor about it. We used to joke that it's Waldorf Light, or Waldorf but willing to crack a joke. Geoff and the whole crew are all super down to Earth, maybe the downest to earth in some ways. Always felt like we could come to them about anything, and we wouldn't be judged even if we were challenging the existing norms. We could truly bring ourselves, and they met us where we were, just like they say they're doing for the kids. Honestly, I wish I went to school here.

Update in response to the business's comments to my earlier post :…read more - You did raise your voice to me. The quote I provided was word for word and is quite a less than empathetic statement to make to a client. You also snapped at my child during our meeting which surprised me and put the possibility in my mind that if this was done in front of me, it was most probably being done in my absence. Providing a calm and respectful environment is a great core value to strive for but these interactions did make me question otherwise. - I never said the school stated or diagnosed my child. What actually did occur, when I was being informed of his behaviors, was I thanked you for telling me. Because these behaviors were not manifesting in the home setting, I didn't realize he was also special needs like his sibling. The realization during that meeting that I had another child with special needs felt overwhelming and that is when I teared up. You then said that if he is special needs, he should go someplace else like the special needs center across the street. While this may be something you are ethically and legally required to do in such a situation, it was not expressed in the most compassionate way. - While we were notified of some of our child's behaviors, we were not notified of all behaviors until the in-person meeting I refer to above. At that point, it had culminated to the point of asking our son to leave. What I did not appreciate, and articulated this in person, was not being informed of ALL the behaviors occurring which would have given us insight to have him evaluated sooner. - The classroom behaviors were not always handled confidentially. I actually have screenshots you sent to me of other parents' conversations where they mentioned my child. That certainly made me question the integrity of your confidentiality since I'm sure the other parent thought theirs was a private conversation and not being screenshot and sent to another parent. - I'm not sure what additional support and extra staffing you refer to. Sounds great in theory, but I was not aware of any during my child's time in your facility. - Even now, you mention how certain matters were handled privately yet call out one of those in the same sentence. Ironic. - Of course you disagree on someone commenting on a lack of empathy or kindness on your part. No one likes hearing the reality of how they're portraying themselves. - Finally, yes, my review was posted more than a year after my child's enrollment. That just goes to show you how much of a long-lasting bad taste was left in my mouth after the experience. UPDATE #2 : " As we have already provided a detailed response, we would like to briefly address your most recent message. Because this matter involves a minor, we do not feel it is appropriate to continue discussing specific details publicly or to engage in ongoing back-and-forth on this platform." -- Then why are you continuing to do so? "If you wish to discuss any remaining concerns, you are welcome to contact us directly so the conversation can remain private and respectful" -- You are responding publicly. I don't have any concerns -- this is a site for reviews. This was my family's experience with your business and the review was written to supplement the low rating I gave. Trying to keep my review of my experience private defeats the purpose of this very site. Not every review is going to be a positive one and continually combatting or trying to keep negative reviews private doesn't come across well.
