Nola rescued me when she arrived at Seatac (from a Texas shelter) back in 2013. It was obvious from the start that my sensitive girl had been through some tough times and I was going to need some help in figuring things out. Sharon was incredible, right from the start! She taught me how to be patient and understand Nola's behavior... and most importantly, how to react and 'check' my own behavior. Sharon taught me so much in such a short period of time. Diesel has a trauma history that makes him leash reactive and easily overstimulated. The first night, he had to stay behind a barrier and barked the whole time. I told Julie I didn't think we could come back but she encouraged me to stick it out and I'm so glad we did. We're almost done with basic obedience and it's been a game changer. Diesel can sit in the main room now and participate in the off leash playtime without problems. He has amazing recall and I've enjoyed working with him to grow our bond and enrich his life. I'm hoping to take the intermediate and advanced classes in the future to keep working on Diesel. I'm so glad I was referred to SAS. We'd tried other trainers who didn't actually let us practice with the dogs during the session, just talked at us. As a hands on learner, I appreciate that Julie has us all practice together and walks around, giving feedback. It's like I have a different dog now.

Many places are currently doing drop-off only because of COVID, and this was a deal breaker for us because our puppy is very shy around new people, especially if they try to handle her. This group has been perfect (limited to 10 people currently and everyone must wear a mask and socially distance) - she's gotten exposed to more new people and gotten some valuable playtime with puppies having similar levels of immunity. She's really come out of her shell and I can't thank Sound Animals enough for this!!

The check-in process was quick but thorough--they asked detailed questions about my dog's diet, medication schedule, and personality and they asked me about things I wanted him to work on while being boarded, which immediately gave me peace of mind. During his stay, I received updates about his progress with training. The facility itself was clean, spacious, and smelled fresh--always a good sign in a boarding environment. What impressed me most was how happy and relaxed my dog was when I picked him up. He wasn't stressed, anxious, or overly tired--instead, he seemed like he'd been on a vacation of his own. His bedding was clean, his food portions had been managed exactly as instructed. Im glad I found a great place for dog training and boarding as well as sitting in Mukilteo. What is especially great is that during the board and train there are several opportunities where me and my dog can meet up in areas that he's familiar in, which was great at identifying some of his stressors in a familiar environment.

Everything was great. Total professionals here and very trust worthy. It's great to have a back up place for something like this. We do take our pups with us as much as we can but sometimes you go places they can't go and sometimes you can't get relatives to watch them, this is the next best thing. We did use another service closer to us once before and was not as good. These folks are definitely good. 5 stars!

He's a good boy and does a lot of things right, but we've been lost on how to handle his reactivity. Paul listened to us and really paid attention to our dog's behavior and personality. He packed so much advice into our one on one session and we finally feel like we have a plan that makes sense. As the name would suggest, he has a very positive style of training, which is awesome. While some trainers would recommend using aversive training techniques to "control" dogs (no thank you), Paul's approach was to take our situation (excessive barking at other dogs on walks) and to make a plan that is fun and engaging for both us and our dog. It's going to be a big improvement in how we work with our dog. It will take work & intention to change our habits, but that's the whole thing with dog training. It's really us humans who need the training. There's no magic button to "fix" your dog. Paul helps you see that your dog is responding to your routines and the way you communicate with him/her, whether you're communicating on purpose or by accident. I should also mention that the plan he gave us is very doable--we are not very experienced with dog training & we have full time jobs, but we can definitely fit this training plan into our daily routines. We haven't had time yet to see the results, so I plan to update in a few weeks. I really believe that our plan can only make our dog (and us) feel happier, more confident, and far less confused about our communication.

Paul was incredible right from the start. Without us even knowing, Paul evaluated Duke and knew what kind of dog he was. He implemented techniques and strategies that Duke caught onto immediately and thrived with. I am honestly shocked how quickly and easily Paul engaged with Duke and had him laying on the floor and staying in place on command, something he's never done before. We now have several techniques and strategies that we will be using daily to help Duke become the best dog he can be. I would 100% recommend Paul to anyone who need assistance with dog training, one session is really all you need!

Julie Forbes, the Sensitive Dog trainer saved us! Our 11 month old adopted puppy, Haggis was…read moreadorable, but soon became known in the neighborhood as Haggis the Horrible. He devolved into a frenzy of barking when any person, dog, bike, car, or even a garbage can was in his field of view. My vet recommended Ahimsa, which was absolutely no help. Haggis failed their Growley Class and thus was barred from any further classes. I did one on one training with them that was a complete waste of time and left poor little Haggis catatonic with fear. I never returned. The wonderful people at Portland Dachshund Rescue, where we adopted Haggis from, encouraged me to find a trainer who had worked with Dachshunds before, and or really understood how to help sensitive dogs. My hunt for a new trainer took over a year! But it was well worth the time and energy. When I contacted Julie I was hopeless and a bit frantic myself. We had to cancel vacations because poor Haggis couldn't tolerate anyone in the house except me and my husband. Julie was terrific! She talked me down off the imaginary cliff I was on and we signed up for the initial lessons. I warned her Haggis would bark at her the entire time, which he pretty much did. But Julie ignored him and kept talking to us over his barking. Haggis finally wore himself out and curled up at my feet throwing a stink-eye at Julie occasionally to reminder her he was watching her. Then a remarkable thing happened. Julie taught us a calming game for Haggis. She had us lead him through the basics while she continued to ignore his chuffs. After a few trials of learning the game, Haggis completely forgot about Julie. He was absorbed in the sniff game, which utilized all dachshunds's super skill: their nose! Haggis ran through the game eager to do it again and again. He approached Julie without barking and looked up at her wanting to play *with* her, instead. At the end of the lesson he jumped up on her couch and sat next to her, content with his new friend. Each class with Julie provided a similar breakthrough for Haggis. At the second class Haggis, bound out of the car, ran up to Julies classroom and barked to be let in. Haggis's affection never wavered for Julie, an neither did ours. WE learned valuable tools and correct training techniques to help Haggis overcome his fear aggression. Within months, Haggis stopped barking at people and let them approach to say hi. Dogs were still something he preferred to keep across the street from him, but soon he stopped barking like a frenzied Doberman ready to attack (I had two Dobermans and they were the sweetest boys!). I am grateful and astonished to say that with Julie's training and guidance, Haggis has no problem letting dogs pass him on the sidewalk and has made a few walking buddies in our neighborhood. Haggis, once the Horrible, has turned into Haggis the Adorable! And Julie Forbes deserves 100% of the credit. We are indebted to her forever!!!!

I was at my wits end with my Pit-mix, Pirate!!! I had spent $1000's on training ; a five week…read moredoggy boot camp, online classes, trainers to the house. Military based, reward based. You name it I tried it. I knew in my heart Pirate was trainable. My husband said "no more, we will just keep him away from people", :0 I decided maybe we needed a dog Psychologist or behaviorist. So I started looking online. Most of the reviews were about putting dogs on drugs. Well I had done that before and Pirate bit our neighbor. As it turns out he was more aggressive on them. Then I saw an ad for "Sensitive Dog". One particular review was so heartfelt and it sounded like all my issues with Pirate, plus all the reviews were great. My husband was willing to do one last try. Julie at Sensitive dog was everything Pirate and I needed.!!!! The first appointment was so positive. It was 2 1/2 hours observing Pirate, talking to me at length about all our issues with him. She was a nice mix of reward based training as well as consequential training. It's such a great mix and you can tell that she really cares about you and your dog. It may seem like a lot of money, but it's really not, because you will get so many valuable lessons and solutions. The one that stands out most in my mind, is that dogs need mental stimulation. Julie gave me lots of ways to help him get his mind working. When I got home, for a week, I tried some of her suggestions for mental games. It was amazing, he got calmer and less reactive. That's just one example of our success. The most important one was that he became much better with our grand kids! We have lots of ways now to get him to be safe with them.
