My friends and I were in Southside for college night at hofbrauhaus but the line to get in was probably an hour long so we pivoted and went to grab a couple drinks at Archie's instead. The place itself was fine pretty basic bar with reasonably priced drinks. In our group of 6 there was 1 girl who had an expired id, which I completely understand that's they don't want to get in trouble for. We came to Archie's on the Southside of Pittsburgh before going to a Pittsburgh Riverhounds game. Archie's is touted as the chicken wing of 93.7 the Fan. The place is small with a bar area and about a dozen tables. We came during the NCAA tournament, so games were on their multiple flat screens. Our server was really nice, friendly, and attentive. The service was really fast. We started out with some mozzarella sticks. They were pretty standard, but fine. We got two orders of ten wings. Buffalo and Tangy Gold. I enjoyed the Tangy Gold more, my son and his friend enjoyed the Buffalo. They have an assortment of wing sauces. Overall, a pretty good experience. read more

With the help of 2 friends, we combined for a total of 65 wings, and let me tell you, archies is UNDERRATED! 100% recommend for any wing lover, portions are very good, and the wings are incredibly fresh. My friends and I ordered an appetizer and wings. It took over an hour to get our food. When I asked for the app to be taken off because there was an hour long wait for fried food, they told me no. With thier excuse being theyre busy on trivia night and they only had 1 cook. As if they didn't know to staff their kitchen on "the busiest night of the week" and somehow it's my issue they can't serve food in an appropriate time. Had they mentioned it would take a while when we sat down we would have left..... Expect shitty service and mid bar food! Response: Ya, the food was eaten because we walked in hungry and you made us wait an hour. At the 45 minute mark I asked how much longer and I was told our ticket was up next. It took another 10 minutes for the appetizer...? Onion rings and mozzarella took 10 minutes in the fryer? Give your server the money I spent on the app as a tip. A tip for you Mike: there's probably a reason Wednesday is your busiest night of the week. As for my "remark": As I was walking out the door, your cook told me "don't come back on Wednesday" and flipped me off. To which I returned the favor and said "I won't be back." -A truer statement has never been uttered in the English language. I don't ever really venture into the Southside because it's not really my cup of tea. Lots of cool shops and things to do but getting there parking or even public transportation is too annoying. It has to be something special for me to head to the Southside. My partner and I we're going to go to dinner before we headed to a show and we were trying to decide where to go. Do we do something fun and classy and spend maybe a little bit more money than we wanted to? Or do we go and get wings. Of course we decided to go get wings I'm not saying that we're not classy and we don't like to spend a little bit of money on good food but considering that my graduation was last week saving money on food really was something I need to do. Archie's has delicious food. This was maybe the second time that I've been here and I was really impressed with the size of their wings and with the flavor choices. They had celery and carrots with ranch and blue cheese which is a usual for wings but I found some places that don't offer this on the side. When looking over the wing choices we decided to order 20 wings, so two orders of 10. Because we got two orders of 10 we were able to get two choices of sauces. If you wanted to split up the orders into more sauces you had to pay extra. We went with a dry Cajun and the honey mustard. Both were delicious. Next time that I would be there I would ask them to throw a little bit more seasoning on the dry Cajun but other than that it was great. The honey mustard was also dripping with sauce just the way I like it. And the cool crunch of those celery and carrot sticks really went above and beyond. I also ordered a side salad which was huge and only ate about half of it. Sometimes when you're doing fried food for dinner you might want to add a little more vegetables. I probably could have passed. But I will say I did eat that salad the next day. The staff was really fun and attentive. They made me laugh a lot. I would definitely come back here for wings. I hear that they do have some specials and maybe I'll come back on a day where I can partake in those. Archies is a no frills Pittsburgh sports dive bar that specializes in chicken wings, at least that's why I come here. It has a large bar when you first walk in, about 10 high tops and 5 tables. It was about 2/3 filled at 7:30 on a Tuesday, with the Pens playing on 6 of about a dozen TVs. There was only one guy working the dining room, with Archie's help of course, but he moved quickly, making sure everyone was promptly taken care of. Aside from their full bar, they have about 12 beers on tap, your standard lite beer options along with some IPAs - Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, etc. They have specials e.g. $2.50 Coors lite during games, along with pitcher specials and you-call-its on the weekends. Back to the wings...Monday-Thursday they offer 60 cent wings every evening (starting early, not sure the exact time.) Not a bad deal. They usually come out fairly quickly - hot, fresh, and the most important part...crispy. I don't find myself needing to order "well done/extra crispy." My favorite is probably Archies Sweet Heat, which are sweet, spicy, tangy goodness. Also a fan of spicy garlic parm, tangy gold, and Cajun ranch from the dry rub section. read more

I decided to visit this place on a Wednesday night, eager to try it out, but my experience was disappointing. As soon as I walked in, I felt unwelcome. Two staff members at the bar looked me up and down without acknowledging me. I sat at the bar to quickly grab some takeout, and when the bartender asked if I wanted a drink, I politely declined and requested the food menu. She repeated "Can I get you something to drink" Her response was dismissive and she seemed irritated. After handing me the menu, she walked over and whispered something to a coworker. Feeling uncomfortable, I decided to leave after speaking to the manager about it. The bartender was actually the manager as well so that didn't end well. What's so upsetting is that the two waitresses that are scheduled to be there on Wednesdays provide probably the worst service ever. On the evening of April 10th, a group of 4 of us came in (with 3 more on the way) to enjoy food and drink. When we arrived there were 2 patrons at the bar, and 2 patrons in the large dining room. Not being familiar with their ordering process, we went up to the bar to order and the bartender shooed us away and begrudgingly said "I have to come over to you anyway." As he came over to take our order, he said "take up half the bar why don't you". This fellow was very negative about our presence and we felt unwelcome and decided leave. My daughter & grandson go here every Wednesday night around 6 PM and begged me to come along. (Meant I had to pay, they don't fool anyone.) So when Grandma & I walked in there were only about 4 different groups & the place was incredibly quiet. My daughter had a chicken Caesar salad that came looking very uninspired, just some Caesar salad and 5 tiny strips of chicken across the top so she had to mix herself. We ate, had a good time, cause we didn't care how quiet it was, we make it loud anyways....its a bar after all. Ended up the food was dirt cheap, and we all ended up having a great time. This place is almost near the Birmingham bridge so there's plenty of parking and you miss a lot of the crowds that makes the rest of Southside so inaccessible. Great place for wings and beer. Your classic sports bar - watch games, drink, hang out, eat bar food. The only thing I absolutely hated was the buffalo chicken dip. It was weird, watery, and the chicken bits were drowned in lemon... So if you're into that sorta thing, then dig in. I don't suggest coming here when it's super crowded, though. The waiter was very overwhelmed and kind of rude to us because it was packed. Don't know why he took it out on us. Archie's is great for cheap, quality wings. The place has bar seatings on one side and spacious tables for groups on the other side. Staffs are friendly and service efficient. There are TV's at every angle--360 degrees of visual stimulations. When I was there, I saw Archie himself. He is a very friendly and social guy. Okay more about the wings. From Monday-Thursday wings are 35 cents each, all day. However, you must purchase a drink with your wings order, minimum of 10 wings per order. Even with the drink purchase, the meal was still pretty cheap. I was able to try three flavors: spicy Thai sauce, Cajun rub and flaming hot. Spicy Thai was on the sweeter side and not spicy at all. Cajun rub had a spicy kick to it and flaming hot pretty much went up my nose and I was in tears. The wings were juicy and meaty with just the right amount of flavors. As a transplant to the Pittsburgh area nearly six years ago, the one thing that's a constant is finding a good place to go to watch my hometown team (Baltimore) play on Sundays. There are plenty of bars with Sunday Ticket, and I've tried quite a few, but to find a place with a decent crowd is another story...especially in Southside. Based on the number of fans of other teams also pulling up their seats for a game a Archie's, I'm not alone in giving Archie's a thumbs up. This past season, I finally decided to check out Archie's, as the other options in Southside had let me down, and it was a generally nice experience! The bartender was really nice the few times we were in, and the one time I came in and had to ask for them to turn the game on, Archie himself (assuming it was him based on the striking resemblance to the menu drawing) was super polite in putting it on the TV closest to my seat. Need I remind you, he was polite to a guy in a Ravens jersey. That's the type of service that will bring anyone back. If you walk in expecting anything special, food-wise, you're asking too much, but the food isn't bad. It's exactly what you'd expect upon seeing the place, and after checking out the menu. My favorite thing on the menu is the meatball hoagie. It's actually good, and not just in that "well, it's good for here" kind-of-way. It was actually good stuff. The wings and chicken tenders are okay, but I'm definitely giving my positive food ratings to the hoagie. The prices are reasonable, the food is decent, and service is good. It's not a place that I see myself frequenting when football season isn't in, but I wouldn't steer anyone away, either, as I imagine the positive vibes are a constant at Archie's. read more

The wrap was filled with 90% lettuce and the chicken that was in there was quite burnt. The fries were really good though - very thick! Although, they were a little heavy with the salt. I tried my friend's boneless wings which were decent. I guess Archie's is known for its sports environment, wing deals, and daily drink specials - none of which I really took advantage of. The Wing Night special has increased in price from 40 cents a wing to 50 cents a wing, which would be tolerable if the quality did not go down as well. The waitress here is not particularly rude, but also not particularly friendly (which is to be expected in a Southside joint like this one). Charging $1 for a dinky takeout box rubs customers the wrong way. I understand why they do it, but it still strikes me as nickel and diming. Unfortunately, I saved the worst for last. Lately, the bar has reeked of urine to the point where it interferes with the meal. Hopefully Archie's can get back to what it once was but it is trending in the wrong direction. Which was fair, but I wish I could've gotten 5 wings in one flavor and 5 in another because it all looked so good!
