My family and I were regular patients and happy with Dr. Holmberg but were extremely unhappy with how issues were addressed by Dr. Patel and the opticians. Their approach is very dismissive and argumentative rather than focused on making things right and patient satisfaction, until it's further escalated. It's very clear this office is more concerned with profit than genuine care for their patients. We spent a lot here annually and got expensive frames and all the add-ons, but have since taken our business elsewhere. As a small practice, please do better. read more

She told me she had already ordered, but I was updated by text that the order was placed later that evening after I agreed to pay. My 4 year old and I had a super weird and wasteful experience at River City Doctors of Optometry in East Sac - but still needed new glasses for my son. We went to Arena Eye Care hoping to find little kid glasses. Upon walking in, we had the total opposite experience, thankfully, from River City. The office staff were so kind and patient the moment we walked in. Molly showed us their kid glasses selection and helped with sizing. Then Danny fitted them on his face and helped us find a really good fit for my son's smaller nose bridge. Staff did their magic with VSP benefits/ discounts, and put in our order. We picked up the glasses - turnaround time is usually 1-2 weeks but my son has a high prescription, so was about 3. The lenses are much thinner and better quality than the ones I ordered online, they stay on when he plays tee ball, and we got the personal care we were hoping for. My hubby and I also had a long overdue full eye exam with Dr. Holmberg. We were able to have our exams together, and opted for the free dilation that comes with the exam plus the additional eye photos for $39. Doctor Holmberg was so thorough, knowledgeable, and kind. And all of the eye care staff were helpful, patient, and found pairs to suit our individual taste when it came time to choose frames. I can wholeheartedly say Arena is our family eye doctor. I last saw Dr. Patel in the spring of 2021 and got my first ever pair of prescription glasses (with optional side shields) for work. I recently returned for my 2023 annual eye exam with Dr. Holmberg before the end of the year. Since my previous review, they have moved from their Arena Blvd location to Duckhorn Dr. Booking the appointment for my comprehensive exam online was super easy, and I was able to request it for about two weeks out, toward the end of the day. About five days before the actual appointment, got a friendly email reminder that it was upcoming and to confirm ($45 fee for same-day cancellations, reschedules, or no-show). Two days before the appointment, received online patient intake forms/paperwork to complete before coming in. Finally, 3 hours before the appointment, got a final email reminder for confirmation. Easy check-in, sign off to opt-in for the $39 retinal imaging, seen right a way. Mandy (?) helped with the preliminary testing (periphery), then I was seen by Dr. Holmberg for the lettered eye chart visual sharpness/acuity, refraction, binocular testing. After the dilating drops, I was helped in the gallery (I forget her name, but very nice!) in selecting new frames to go with my new prescription lenses (I went with a Draper James smoke gradient frame/pair). I then did a few more tests with Mandy (pressure test, and retinal screening) and then met again with Dr. Holmberg to go over the pictures and observations. New glasses should be ready in two weeks! They were also able to adjust the pair I previously purchased from them with regards to tightening or ensuring they don't slide down my bridge/face. Overall, a very nice, clean establishment in their new space. The ambiance was comfortable, and the doctor was very enthusiastic and upbeat, thorough with explanations and personable. read more

Took teen daughter to get some new glasses as it has been 10 years or more since her last pair. Masks required. Very clean place and the workers were helpful. Most of the glasses price (Michael Kors) was covered by insurance. All the other options and exam boosted the price up a lot. This review is probably long overdue. I've been going to Dr Holmberg for probably at least 10 years now. Had my most recent appointment last Friday, April 18th. Dr H is very professional and easy to talk to about anything that might be going on with my vision. I've never seen another doctor there, so this review is specifically about my experience with him. I require a strong prescription and he's always been able to find just the right contact lenses as glasses prescription to help me see better. They have a great selection of frames. In fact, picking out my frames there is my favorite part of my visit. Arena Eye Care might be a little more expensive than some places but the service I receive there is top notch and it's close to home, so worth it to me vs going to one of the shops in the mall or using an online retailer that might not provide the same level of customer service. Let me first say that I contemplated on leaving this review. The one star is based solely on my most recent experience. I am somewhat new to this place as I was looking for an optometrist closer to my home. I've visited them before for eye pain, eye discharge etc. Visits went well so I decided to book my yearly exam and contact fitting with them. I saw Dr Patel last week for the contact fitting. I am a long term contact lens wearer and I am aware of what comes with that ; possible infection, irritation, allergy, etc. I was placed in the same brand and lower strength based on Dr Patels exam. Eye sight was a little off and she advised to come back in a few days once eyes acclimate to the strength change. I agreed, because it did make sense. I came back about 4 days later as planned. I let her know that my right eye was still blurry and felt like my left I was compensating (so there were periods of full clarity , but it was in and out). She seemed like she was in a rush. She did a few tests and assessed lens fit. She recommended to keep same strength as to avoid over compensating. She ultimately said that my eyes were slightly dry so she recommended a different brand. We switched out in office and she told me to TEXT if I felt good in those so they can finalize prescription. So, here is why my rating is one star- that night I developed severe eye irritation. Eye was runny and red, but not itchy. The next morning things were worse. I was calm and simply texted the number and told them I wanted to switch to my original brand for the final prescription as I was having issues. I stated the issues in text. Never one time did Dr Patel or her staff call me to inquire about my issues. I called later that day and I asked to speak to a doctor because I was wondering if it would be better to go to dailies all the way around. Well person on the phone told me that Dr. Patel would leave me samples of dailies at the front to try. Weird? Anyway, I went to the office and I picked up the samples. The staff person was pleasant, as she always is. She gave me the samples and advised me to maybe give my eyes a break. (I had on my glasses). Anyway even given the state of my eyes not one time did anyone decide to go get Dr Patel to see for herself. Next day eyes were worse. I decided I didn't like the lack of follow through so I called to cancel and upcoming appointments. About an hour or so after that call Dr. Patel called me and said something along the lines of "the optometrist you seen yesterday advised you to take a break" I informed her I didn't see an optometrist, but yes the nice tech did tell me that which I am doing. She then told me that my eyes were dry and that could lead to the irritation. She ended the call by saying "do what you will with that information". The part that turned me off from the business is the fact that she was in a rush both days I saw her. Like , what's the rush? I don't care if I'm having difficulty with the examine as far as determining what feels clearer, my insurance and I are paying for an exam ! Smh , then the fact that she didn't even care to follow up on my issue on 3 separate chances! Not even if just to acknowledge and provide recommendations. I've never experienced that in my life, and I've been wearing glasses since I can remember, and contacts for over 14 years. So, no thank you I won't be back!! Pleasant staff , Doctors etc, but I like my care team to be more compassionate!! Great office , so if you go make sure you speak up and don't let them leave you in the red- literally. read more

Another disclaimer, I was not prompt in my attendance when getting into the office was necessary, especially when it was for problems with my order...But, I spent over $450 on glasses, but the prescription was incorrect, making them unusable. When I raised the issue, they did a brief in-office check, dismissed my concerns, and later refused to re-evaluate my prescription. They also misrepresented the situation when I followed up. With their high prices and lack of accountability, I wouldn't recommend them for eyewear. I mean really, who can just throw $450 out the window? Not me! read more

So thankful for the yelp reviews, thats how I was able to find this place! I called with an emergency situation for my boyfriend's eye. They were kind enough to fit us in the friday before Labor Day weekend. It was a sensitive situation - so incredibly thankful they treated it with the seriousness in which they did! Truly both the Dr Patel and Dr Holmberg went absolutely above and beyond. They reached out to their resources to see if we could see a specialist since they were also concerned with how the eye looked. They also sent a referral to a specialist that was covered by his insurance. He ended up with a corneal hydrops and now the specialist they referred us to and we've been seeing will be doing his corneal transplant. We are just so incredibly thankful for them getting us in, and holding our hand through the whole process. Truly kind people! My experience was great. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Went for the Silhouette collection, and they didn't disappoint, for all you light weight, titanium frame fans. I was lucky to see Dr. Patel and she was pleasant with a wonderful chair side disposition. Explained my circumstance in a way I could understand my eye care health, future and past. I always felt my previous Rx was too strong and she nailed it, without any prompt from me. Do see "Soo," to help with frames. **** BEWARE THEY CAN AND WILL TURN DOWN YOUR WARRANTY. I came in January 2022 and purchased regular every day glasses. I was contemplating buying sunglasses, and was talked into it by the agent assisting me. I never owned sunglasses before so I didn't see the point in them, but she told me it'd be life changing once I had it. I ended up agreeing to both pairs because she told me there was a year of warranty on them and I could bring them in if anything happened no questions asked. I spent over $600 on this visit. My sunglasses lived in my car, but unfortunately was involved in a vehicle fire 12/27. My frames broke and there's a black plastic(?) that was melted onto the lenses. I took them in for my warranty (I called prior to confirm my warranty is still active). When I got to the location, they told me there's nothing they can do because they no longer carry Michael Kors. The selling point WAS the warranty and not being able to utilize it means I wasted over $300 for a pair that I can't even get fixed. She told me I could get discount on my next frame but I'd rather look elsewhere, where they actually take care of their customers. The least they could have done is offer something equal or lesser value. Or the bare minimum sending out an email or notifying via phone that my warranty is no longer valid as they no longer carry my frame, WHEN they discontinued MK frames. My advice: just don't bother. This place is extremely expensive for no reason. And if this is the closest optometrist to you and you have no other choice, then get everything in writing. Wet signature. read more

I cannot rave enough about this place! I've recommended this place to both my sisters and my colleagues who have now become patients as well. I have been going to Arena Eye Care for 4 years now and have always had a good experience with them. The front staff is nice and approachable. They always greet you as you enter. Dr. Holmberg is exceptional! He's warm, inviting, personable, professional, and knowledgeable. He definitely has my best interest, seeing as I am pregnant, and looked out for my health first and foremost & opt to not dilate my eyes due to the chemicals (I usually do this yearly). The team takes their time and never rushes you. They're very accommodating when it comes to appointments. I especially like that they use email and text to remind you when you're due for an appointment (otherwise I might forget) or when your appointment time is. They've recently moved from Arena Blvd. to Duckhorn Drive. The new office is still being set up, but it's nice and open with lots of space. They always deal with all my billing and talk to my insurance (VSP) on my behalf. I also appreciate that they let me know what my insurance covers beforehand as well. I look forward to my annual eye exams with Arena Eye Care yearly. This was not my first time here and definitely won't be my last. *Bonus: Dr. Holmberg always gives me a few extra pairs of contacts in office to last me until my new contact lenses come in. I just checked my messages and the DR basically said "Unfortunately you misunderstood my explanation." and "You do have floaters". During the exam she originally told me that "You don't have floaters. Those are just shadows." and dismissed my concerns. You can't really misunderstand someone that says "you don't have floaters." I made an appointment for my 7 year old because his pediatrician recommended that he get his eyes checked after failing his preliminary eye test at school and at the pediatrician's office during his well baby check up. Setting up an appointment was super easy. I called to make an appointment and the person who assisted me was super helpful. I provided the pertinent information (insurance, etc.) and we were done. The whole process was seamless. The store/clinic/etc. is located in a little strip mall where Tapioca Express and Maestro Coffee are located. There's plenty of parking so no worries on that. When we walked in, we were fully masked and so was everyone else. There were a lot of people waiting but they could've just been with the person who was being seen. When we checked in, the person at the desk knew who my son was right off the bat which was awesome for hm. He think everyone knows he is just like Norm on Cheers (okay, I'm dating myself now...I'll stop). Since there were a few people ahead of us, we were given a little container and advised to go look at the frames and see if there was anything that caught my son's eye to try on later should he need some glasses. My son found 4 pairs that he liked. Once we were done looking at the frames, my son was called back to the exam room. The technician checked his peripherals and if he could see the random lights blinking by testing both eyes, and then each eye. Once we were done with those tests, we were taken to the other room where the doctor was. There my son's eyes were checked as far as what was clear and what wasn't as well as dilation. He did pretty well with the drops which surprised me. After all that was said and done, my son ended up needing glass. Off we went to meet with the lady to fit some frames on my son and get measured for his lenses. Remember those 4 frames he chose before he was seen by the doctor, well, they ended up being too small or too big. We had to choose something else. My son found a few more but the one he ended up with actually matched what he was wearing that day. After being fitted, we were told that the glasses would take about a week to make and we would be called when they were done. They had to check my insurance for one of the items being offered so I had to wait for their call anyway. Since we were being seen on a Friday, I called back on the Monday since I hadn't heard back. It turns out the lady that helped us was off that Monday. I ended up talking to the doctor and she explained everything about the insurance and the deductible, etc. I was fine with all that she explained. About four days later, my son's glasses were ready. He was so excited and happy to be receiving them. He asked about them all weekend. The doctor and the technician treated my son with respect and a human being. They understood that he would be scared and let him touch the instruments they were going to use on him and explained what each one of them did. He really liked that. The whole process was seamless. My son felt very comfortable with everyone and everything. He's seen a lot of doctors and surgeons for a 7 year old so being comfortable with this particular doctor was a step in the right direction. TLDR: They will make you feel uncomfortable by asking for your id, overtly watching you and continuously interrupting you as you try on glasses. I have been in dire need of glasses for the past month. Since my optometrist's office isn't open after work, I chose to come to Arena because of their late hours. When I first walked in I appreciated the sizable collection of glasses. They had a wide variety and a nice showroom with many mirrors. However, the trip was ultimately not a good one. Upon entry, the receptionist asks to see your id if you will be looking at frames...this is a bit strange to me and made me feel unwelcome. However, I empathized with them...perhaps they had issues with folks stealing frames in the past....so I complied. The receptionist asked if I wanted them to look up my insurance, I said no thanks. Once I started looking at frames another employee came and asked me for my id...again. I told her that the receptionist had already asked....but she stated that the receptionist did not note my id #.....its unclear why the receptionist had asked for my id, but whatever fine- I complied. Shortly after, the dr. comes up and asks us if we need any assistance and if she should look up my insurance.... I tell her no thank you just as I had told her staff members prior. Things are feeling strange at this point...were they watching me? Did they think I was going to steal something? My suspicions were confirmed when I made eye contact with the doctor from the corner of my eye as I was trying on glasses. My stomach sank.... I thought maybe it was just a coincidence, but I caught her and her staff looking at me multiple times...even though there were others in the lobby area looking at glasses too....even though there cameras all over the lobby... I asked my friend who was with me if she saw them looking at us or if I was mistaken, she agreed that the staff was indeed eyeing us. I decided to move to the other side of the room to test my suspicion. If the doctor was watching me, she would've needed to turn to the opposite side of the room to continue watching me. 5 minutes later, sure enough the doctor had turned. I felt sick and so upset. But I NEEDED glasses, so I continued trying. Luckily, I found frames that I liked. I would've gladly purchased from this office but because of how uncomfortable they made me feel, that is not an option. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. I hope after reading this review that they reconsider their practices instead of posting some lame excuse like they usually do. read more

Arena Eye Care is located next to the now closed Natomas Pharmacy, right next door to IBS Tax. Plenty of parking right outside their office. I am good about getting my yearly medical checkups but had dragged my eyes checkup for 4-5 years. I made an appointment via phone and the whole process was a breeze. Cut to appointment day, the whole experience went very smoothly. The staff explained me my options. The eye technician did a very thorough test with multiple different machines to check not only the vision but also the health of the eyes. After the tests were done, the doctor came and reviewed the results and provided some good recommendations. I have been to this place twice now and I would recommend them to anyone who want not only great customer service but also professional eye care. With Arena Eye care you get both. read more

I found out about this place because its right next to my dentist/orthondist! I decided to see if they were in the network of my eye care plan and they were so I decided to give them a try. My eye sight started to go bad this year so I finally decided to book an appointment. I received my first pair of eye glasses here. The doctor is very nice and the staff are patient. They helped me pick out my glasses that would be a good fit for my face and nose shape. I am very satfisfied and can't wait to go back in 6 months to get my second pair of glasses! Great variety and selection to choose from. They offer some very high end fashion glasses. A little too pricey for my first pair so I went with a Banana Republic pair that was on the lower end of the price spectrum. I remember having to pay very little out of my pocket. I was very happy with the service I got there. Everything was sanitized and I felt like I got a very thorough I exam. Most places I've been, would have given me a lot of judgment for not getting my eyes checked in the last couple years but I did not feel that way there. Everyone there was so kind and didn't pass any judgments. Dr. Patel was very good about giving me options for contacts and ordered samples of different kinds so that when they come in, I can try them and pick which ones best for me. My experience was stressful. I was unable to see clearly with my new distance glasses after trying them out for days. So I left a message for the dr advising my concerns. Today, I went ahead and called the office anyway instead of waiting for a call back and the front desk person advised I can just come in, they will see what they can do for me. So I headed to the office right away. On the way there, Dr Patel called me and said that she had reviewed my concerns and wanted me to give the glasses a week to adjust to them. I then addressed that I would feel more comfortable if I can get checked again because I've already given the glasses some time... I cannot see distance clearly and I don't want to waste any time to say the same thing again in a week. So then Dr Patel said that she/they recognized that I am the type of person that worry too much and stresses out about my prescription being correct...um...I don't believe that being able to see clearly from one pair of glasses to the other is "in my head". I do not have issues recognizing when I can't see .. I have never had this issue before. At all. This is the only place that I have encountered this problem with and to be told that I'm just worrying too much so it affected my vision. What a joke. So then she said that if I feel more comfortable coming in then that will be okay too but at that point.. I do not wish to go back to a Dr that does not believe what I was experiencing to be real. So I ended the call. After a few mins, she called back and left a voicemail saying that they never leave patients issues unresolved and that they are wanting to be honest and true with the assessments. No apology... just to advise that they wouldn't leave patients issues unresolved and If I would like to come in again. I'm sorry, but no thanks. I will just see this as a lost. I had my 1st visit to Arena Eye Care about a month ago and wanted to share my praise about them. At the end of August I broke my main pair of glasses and was wearing a backup pair that was causing me headaches due to defective coating in the lenses. I visited the office on August 28th for an exam and new glasses with the hopes that I could get my new glasses delivered in time for a vacation trip I was taking on September 6th. Dr. Holmberg and his assistant were great and very thorough during my exam. I was glad that my vision hadn't suffered too much loss since my last exam a few years ago. Next I looked at frames and picked out a pair that were to my liking. I was told that it would be about 2 weeks for my glasses to be completed and delivered. I was crestfallen as this would be beyond my vacation date but decided to move forward and paid for my glasses. I was COMPLETELY stunned when I received a text from the office that Friday the 1st that my glasses were ready for pickup! I don't know if they put pressure on the offsite lab to expedite my order but I was very grateful. Needless to say I enjoyed my vacation with my new glasses and look forward to my next visit!
