I think my photos got deleted somehow but I managed to find a video I had. After the show i wondered up stairs and thought I grab some really good pictures which I seem to have never saved . But it was nice love the architecture details. One thing I would add is that the bathroom (at least the one upstairs) is not as pretty. I forgot to check out the downstairs one but I think I was expecting something grand or as equally nice as the theatre itself. Staff was friendly, I love that they have a box office to purchase tickets from a person before coming in if you don't already have one, instead of sending you to a screen. The whole experience was nice. I will be back for another showing soon!

When it is set up as standing room, as it is for most events, it is too crowded and "atmospheric" on the floor when everyone has been availing themselves of the bar's wares. When I was younger I would not have minded as much, but now standing for an hour or three is not my thing. BUT when they set the hall up with seating, as they did for Patton Oswalt's show last night, you have to deal with very cheap plastic folding chairs that put pressure in the wrong places and strain to hold folks of any above average size. I know, it's hard to please some people. Accoustically the hall is good. Bathrooms are cleanish. Ticketing was easy. Parking is a challenge.

This was a nice small size children museum in downtown Richmond. They had a free parking garage…read moreadjacent to the building. In the front entrance there were water play area. In the entrance area, they had the reception, a dinosaur skeleton, small gift shop and open play space. The tickets were decent price, $12 each. On first Sunday of the month, Bank of America debit/credit card holders get ticket fee waived, which we benefited from and only had to pay for our kid. The museum was a single floor with different sections. There was a Luray cavern space, a water play area, an obstacle course, a make believe town with hospital, grocery shop, tv station, an arts and craft space, and biggest attraction of all, the carousel. The carousel required separate tickets, $3 for each ride. It only operated for 3-4 rounds at the top of each out. We were able to catch 1 round around 10:10 am, then waited till 11am for another round. My daughter spent the time between the two carousel rides playing in different sections. The staff members all around were super friendly and helpful. Most of the areas were clean, including the outdoor play zone. Restrooms were well maintained as well. Overall a decent location for kids to play and have fun for few hours.

My wife and I visited LGBG to see the new butterfly exhibit. We got there early enough to walk…read morearound the grounds for an hour. What a beautiful setting! Lots of carefully thought out flower / plant beds spread over a huge park-like area. We could see the staff (or volunteers) weeding, replacing, and caring for the plants to keep everything healthy and fresh. A children's presentation was taking place over under the shade in one area, and it was entertaining and informative enough that I wanted to stop and listen. A restaurant and a large meeting hall (one of the older houses) and a music performance pavilion and a gift shop rounded out the setting, along with the various sheltered exhibit buildings. There is also a refreshment cart on the main pathway, which was invaluable on this hot day. The butterfly exhibit was absolutely enthralling. Hundreds of live flutter-byes in a closed glassed in space. Many colors and varieties. I am told they curate the butterflies to replace them every week or so as they inevitably.... go to insect heaven. So the exhibit is constantly changing! Admission to the butterfly experience is included with the price of getting into LGBG.

It's the end of 2020, and I'd say most of us need some extra cheer in our lives right about now…read more Fortunately, Lewis Ginter didn't cancel their annual holiday lightfest, but this year was certainly different than years' past with lots of pandemic precautions in place. I had visited once prior in 2017 and enjoyed the experience, but what I recall from that visit was that the garden was mobbed and the parking lot was insane. We had to park in a subdivision across the street and run across the street/try not to get hit by cars on Lakeside Ave. that year. And last year, I tried to bring my mom so she could experience it too. But we were stuck in an hour+ line at the Lakeside Ave. to make a left, and then as we got close, the police wouldn't let us turn left randomly. I was pretty upset to say the least and actually had an exchange with someone at Lewis Ginter after I direct messaged them about the incident, and they offered free tickets. I never took them up on it, though. Just went to the Norfolk lights instead the next night. This year was much more limited in terms of how many tickets were sold, plus there were staggered entry times. We were able to park right in the front row near the entrance, which is off to the left side this year. There's one entrance and one exit. We arrived within our half-hour window and showed the tickets to a clerk behind glass. Masks are rightfully required to be worn at all times while on their grounds, which I appreciated as a rule (though of course some people didn't listen - eye roll). We arrived at twilight (5 pm) and that turned out well for photos. I was able to get some in both twilight and total darkness. And with less people at the garden, it was easier to snap photos of the displays without others walking into view (though that did happen a few times). This year is all outdoors (so no big tree inside). The treehouse is also blocked off. They offer hot drinks and some food items, but I didn't buy any. With an hour-limit for the visit, we just made it through in the allotted time. Surprisingly, the gift shop was open. I was actually surprised by that, but I guess they need to boost their sales. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry. The tickets themselves were also pretty pricy for nonmembers like myself. And I attended on a value night, so I'm glad I visited when I did. Hopefully by next year, the pandemic will be a thing of the past, but I do see it being helpful if they continue with the timed entries, online ticket purchases, and limiting the amount of visitors to what the parking lot can hold.

There was something for everyone at our trip to the Science Museum of Virginia!…read more My preschooler loved the large scale pterodactyl flying in the air and the lego replica of the museum while my nine-year old loved all of the interactive exhibits and fun facts that went with it. Because the Virginia Science Museum is a reciprocal member of the Children's Science Museum in Fairfax we got free admission. It is also right next door to the Children's Museum of Richmond so you truly could spend a whole day in the area just exploring, learning, and having fun.

I've visited twice within the past month -- once on a chilly weekend day to explore all the sights, and again this past weekend for Neon Night. The museum itself is pretty dense with exhibits. The Power of Poison exhibit was very well thought out and loaded with details and visuals. You could easily spend an hour in there. I enjoyed the Boost exhibit the most, as it was hands on. I don't have kids, so I can't speak for the kids-focused activities, but I did enjoy the reptile room quite a bit too -- especially the "search" for certain creatures in their tanks. Neon Night was well done and attended by seemingly half of the city. I kept running into people I knew. I'd definitely attend one of their after-hours events again in the future. At $25, admission was reasonable. Drinks were also cheap. A cup of wine was just shy of $7. I was shocked that the dome show was narrated, as I was expecting it to be more of a movie vibe. I do wish they'd add a coat check. It's nice they have a parking lot adjacent to their building, but it's still a decently long walk when it's 20 degrees outside.

The beer selection was terrific. My personal favorite #sidamo coffee stout by Hardywood. Never made it to the wine tables because of super long lines. They took standard favorites like Elvis's hound dog and gave it a folk/bluegrass twist. Music was a nice addition to this year's event.

I found out I won 24 hours before the event. Babe! !! Road trip! !! I didn't mind driving up from Chesapeake to attend this event in Richmond. This event is world renowned so heck yeah we're game to attend. Parking was a beast!! We arrived about 2pm and the event I believe started about 10am. So yeah we were super late and knew we would have to deal with ridiculous lines for the wine sampling. But no worries... We were blessed to run into a man that was coming out of one of the pay to park lots and he offered to give us his paid for parking voucher. A free voucher for 3 hours...yaWhoooooooo!!! So let's do the math...free tickets valued at $55 each and now free parking...Oh we are in store for an awesome Saturday! ! I didn't do my research on this event, but if we ever return again I'll be ready. They offered private samplings throughout the day and I believe I saw evening tastings too. These tastings included food sampling as well. Bummer...most we sold out too. I believe about 20 openings were available for each private sampling. I'm sure this made an awesome time for a day date or date night. I saw something about a burger blast not sure what that is, but mad we missed that too. I tell yeah it was a lot going on and I'm sorta disappointed we didn't get the full wine expo experience. So definitely do your research before you attend. But we're checked in and wristband ready!! I was able to get a free wine bag that holds up to 6 bottles of wine...ahmazing! !! We picked up our crystal wine glasses...they were beautiful!!! We didn't know where to start. Let's start where the lines are the shortest. As time went on no lines were short so be ready to wait. Patience indeed. All the wine and malt liquor you can stand...this is the event for you! Every 10 minutes it seemed you'd hear a loud roar or cheer even. I thought some kind of contest was going on but nope!! Wine glasses were being dropped left and right, therefore, cheers if you will! ! :) Amongst the wineries different vendors were present and my fav there was Yelp!!! Heyyyy Bevin! !! She was the Yelp ambassador present on Saturday afternoon. She was awesome at greeting guests and telling them more about Yelp. She also had some cool swag to pass out to those that expressed interest. But the highlight at the table, Yelp provided beads and stems to make wine jewelry!! Fun fun fun!! I'd definitely recommend this event. And wear comfy shoes and eat lite before arriving. Have fun :)
