While I wasn't particularly hankering for Venezualan, I was drawn by the promise of quality. This cuisine is good for special diets; with ample vegetarian options and of course it's very good if you're avoiding gluten. Avoiding dairy is a bit more of a stretch, but it could be done. I ended up with my favorite arepa, a domino with black beans and cheese. The beans were wonderfully spiced, adding a slightly bitter, complex flavor to the less subtle salted cheese and grilled corn. Their yucca fries came with cheese and the delicious pink sauce these restaurants usually have. It was very satisfying stuff. They gave be a side of guasaca (avocado-based sauce), and while I wasn't thrilled that you had to pay for more sauces if you wanted them, I had plenty of flavor as things were. They had some interesting drink options. It was really fast food with cheap plastic utensils offered and such, but to have found such a fresh and delicious meal where I did, I was happy. read more

I have been wanting to try Arepittas for a long time. So since I am working on the north shore, and not often downtown, I checked Door Dash and was able to have my order delivered to the north shore. I realized after I placed the order that you can order delivery or take out via yelp. I will do that next time for sure. My expectations were no doubt met! I really enjoyed the Llanera which is a steak with avocado& fried egg on a cornmeal flat bread. It was so fresh! I drizzled the cilantro sauce on it too. I also ordered a beef empanada and it was quite delicious and fresh as well. Nice size too. The Yuca Frita were ok. This was my first time trying yuca's. I thought they were similar to French fries but less of a strong taste. The taste was mild. I added salt n pepper. They were fun to try and dip in the cilantro sauce. They were a great accompaniment to my meal. I look forward to ordering again and ordering different items on the menu. read more

They make what it says on the tin, as it were. Arepas here are delicious! It's pretty much like a loose meat sandwich except instead of bread you have tasty rounds of masa corn. They also have empanadas but I didn't get a chance to try them. They looked really, really good though. If they're anything like the arepas I'm sure you can't go wrong with them either. While downtown for the Christmas markets my family was looking for something new and novel to try when we were reminded of Arepitta's existence! We had tried to come here probably more than a year ago but hadn't looked carefully enough at the times and showed up when they were closed. Not the case today! We stepped in and were greeted with music, bold black and yellow tables/chairs, and a friendly staff that helped us get settled with our stroller and children in tow. There isn't a ton of seating, but maybe 6 or 7 tables that can sit between 2-4 persons depending. We ordered two of the arepas to share (we correctly assumed our toddlers wouldn't be interested and provided snacks from home for them instead). Food is made to order and so it was probably 10-15 minutes later that the food came out to the table. Flavors were really good and the arepas were loaded with toppings, sauces, veggies and cheese. We were really pleased with the experience and would love to come back soon and try some of the plates perhaps. read more

While staying downtown for work, I sought an interesting lunch and found Arepittas on Google and when I saw they were a Venezuelan restaurant and the reviews were amazing, I walked here to give them a try. Service was excellent... friendly and helpful! Their menu is quite nice and varied, with empanadas and arepas, as well as many other delicious options. I opted for their Reina Pepiada arepa and a side of yuca, with sides of their avocado green sauce and spicy green sauce. Everything was excellent! The sauces were tasty and the arepa was excellent! This place is a must-try!!! I've never had Venezuelan food so I was super excited to check this place out. It was quite empty when we walked in but slowly more and more people gathered in until all the seats were occupied. Their menu had a pretty wide selection. We ended up ordering the arepas (Americana and llanera) as well as the beef empanadas. Everything was made super fresh and arrived at our tables after 5-10 mins. We ate the food while it was still steaming because of how delicious it was. I definitely liked the beef empanadas the best as it was so flavorful. I also highly recommend asking them for the guacamole creme sauce on the side because it really elevates the flavors of the arepas and empanadas! Overall, loved my experience here!! read more

We have also tried it in their pabellon arepa, so we decided to complete the trifecta and order the pabellon empanadas today (on national empanada day), and it was MASSIVE! For $5 this is a very good sized empanada that is backed with beef, beans, and cheese! My girlfriend loves horchata growing up in Arizona, and their Chicha Criolla is very similar! I swear Yelp does not let me down! Logging in to this trusty app, I would not have known about this hole in the wall. While in Pittsburgh before going to the Pirates game, friends stopped in to grab a bite to eat. I looked at the menu before and still couldn't decide when we got there, everything that was coming out looked so good! I knew I wanted yucca frita, which is fried yucca. Better than fries and with the sauce on the side I could eat them all day. My main meal was tostones with veggies. It may sound plain, but the veggies were seasoned to perfection, as were the tostones fried to perfection. I loved it. My friends, who hadn't tasted Venezuelan, or Latin food like they serve, and they couldn't wait until they had an opportunity to go back. 3.25 stars. I don't doubt the reviews that state these are the best arepas in town as I suspect they might be the only ones in town. And I'll say that the various fillings you receive for their arepas are certainly hefty. Each arepa I ordered was overflowing with the selected filling. The shrimp tasted great, the shredded chicken came smothered in a heavy light green mayo based sauce, and the avocado was fresh albeit slightly wilted from the heat of the arepa. I ordered an empanada as well, and while I felt it was a bit more one note than the arepas, it was overall satisfying. All that said, the reason my review isn't much higher are the actual arepas and empanadas themselves. The arepa is two thick discs of corn that did a good job of holding the fillings but had a less appealing flavor on its own. The empanadas tend toward the thicker side as well so keep that in mind. It very well could be your preference as it is for many others who have reviewed this place. read more

This Illy Philly was hungry and in between activities so I ventured to a cute little spot on Cherry St. in downtown Pittsburgh. When I walked in the wonderful aroma of Spanish food hit me and my mouth was watering! I checked out their vegetarian/vegan menu and was elated to see that there were a lot of options. I ordered a vegan Chorizo empanada and plantains (sweet) and waited for all of the goodness I was smelling. The empanada was fried a beautiful golden brown and filled with yummy, spicy vegan chorizo which was beautifully seasoned. The plantains were perfectly sweet and so good!!!! The menu is really great and to know that I can come in here and enjoy myself makes so happy. I will be back to try some more! There is really no parking other than garages and you're lucky if you find street parking, but it well worth it. read more

I was taking a stroll in downtown Pittsburgh, and Arepittas just so happened to catch my eye while walking down the street. I've had Venezuelan once before, but did not realize there was anything like this in Pittsburgh so I had to try. Staff was super friendly in helping me decide (I actually just said give me your favorite thing on the menu) on Arepa Pabellon. With the pandemic I've been doing more takeout so I could not wait to get this home. Another funny part of this is for the 3-4 days before randomly stumbling upon the restaurant, I had been craving churros. Now I know where to go and get my fix because these were pretty good.
