I had the Argentino salad adding the bondiola (pork shoulder) - the flavors burst in my mouth from this salad and the pork was sooo tender! My colleague had the carne sandwich with the Vacio steak - so much tender stacked meat he was in heaven lol.. of course the 4 chimmi's topped everything we ate.. Went here for a birthday dinner. The drinks were great, but where they fell short for me and the party was the quality of the steak. Thus losing a star. We ordered a few appetizers and they were ok. We then ordered the Mix Grill with Chicken, Sausage and a New York Strip. Nope. Chx was good and so was the sausage, but the steak was gristly and we did not enjoy it. The good: Camarones were bomb- juicy, flavorful, grilled perfectly. The papas were seasoned phenomenally and even as takeout potatoes held up probably as good as they would've been fresh! The chimi sauce so flavorful The not great: Coliflor- cauliflower absorbs so much flavor, and I was so excited to try it because of that. However, their version was horribly underseasoned, though cooked really well! The eggplant crema had no flavor. I poured the chimi over it to save it, but we still didn't finish it. The sandwich- highest rated sandwich, but... The roll was soft, and the caramelized onions were tasty. That's where it stopped for me. The beef was dry, didn't have the charred peppers on it (paid extra for), there were three slivers of onion, and I couldn't taste either of the sauces. I know if I would've been able to give them the opportunity to fix what I wasn't a fan of, they would have. Unfortunately, with this being a pickup order, they were not really given that chance. We were lucky to grab seats at the bar because this place was hopping.....like, "do we hover awkwardly or commit?" level busy. Thankfully, it worked out. Recommend making a reservation! While we were definitely feeling a bit nostalgic for the Gaucho of the past (RIP Smallman Street era), we were willing to give this new-to-us downtown location a fair shot... and it delivered. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive...present without being too present, which honestly deserves its own award. We went with two sandwiches: the carne and the pescado, and upgraded one with the papas, because obviously. Both were delicious and did exactly what we needed them to do: make us stop thinking about ordering more food (for a few minutes, at least). But let's be real, the house-made chimichurris are the main event. The Ajo? Addictive. The Cebolla? My personal favorite. The Pimentón? Tangy and doing the most (in a good way). And the classic chimichurri continues to quietly carry the entire operation like the MVP it is. Five out of five stars doesn't even begin to do this place justice. My coworkers and I had an extraordinary experience--truly one of the best meals I've had in my entire life, and that's no exaggeration. We started with their three‑course menu, opening with both the chicken and beef empanadas. The flavors were phenomenal--rich, savory, and just downright delicious. We also added the blackened shrimp, which turned out to be an excellent decision; the seasoning had this bold, smoky depth that made the dish ridiculously good. The charcuterie board was spot‑on, featuring a selection of cured meats that were clearly high‑quality, robust in flavor, and thoughtfully chosen. For the main course, we shared the Parrillado Mixta. Wow. The sheer amount of tender, juicy, downright scrumptious meat was impressive, yet somehow we had no trouble polishing it off because every bite--steak, chicken, all of it--was bursting with flavor and cooked perfectly. The chorizo, though, might have been my personal favorite. It had a beautiful heat to it, incredibly juicy pieces, and a flavor that hit you immediately in the best way possible. The potatoes were another crowd favorite. The horseradish sauce they came with was balanced--noticeable but not overpowering--and added a delicious, slightly sharp contrast that worked perfectly. The assortment of sauces they brought out--chimichurri, garlic, red pepper, and more--elevated every dish they touched. The vegetables served with the main course were also excellent, charred just right and full of flavor. Dessert was a type of poundcake along with a shortbread cookie. My favorite was the cookie which was buttery and had a delicious fruit/chocolate filling inside. Our drinks were fantastic as well. I ordered the Bushwick cocktail and a Sazerac, both of which were beautifully balanced, aromatic, and incredibly smooth. The atmosphere at Gaucho sealed the deal. From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a great night. The interior is warm, sophisticated, and intimate without feeling stuffy. Our team sat upstairs near the additional bar, though the downstairs area has an even better vibe. The staff were wonderful--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Our server in particular was exceptional, and the restaurant is lucky to have her. All in all, an unforgettable night. Anyone local absolutely needs to come here. Ambiance was really cool and reviews for this place were off the charts so we decided to give it a shot while visiting from out of town. Personally I didn't really get the hype. The menu was hard to understand and our server was so busy he didn't have time to explain it to us. Such a nice atmosphere. We managed to get a table upstairs and had a great waitress. We started with the Camerones that were cooked perfectly and come with some great seasoning and a tasty sauce. The rosemary, charred lemon and pimento chimmi really give some wonderful flavors. For our mains, we had sandwiches which our also very tasty and good. The Carnes, a nicely grilled steak sliced and topped the grilled peppers and a chimmi churri that was so flavorful. We came here ahead of a concert across the way. Having a resy was helpful, but also perplexing. When we checked in, they had us wait a while even though tables were available. Our waiter was very helpful and kind, making sure we were taken care of and set in time for the concert. Food wise, it was just fine. I got the salad with fish and it was average. Seasoned fish with greens. I did enjoy the sauces that came with the empanadas to add something to the salad. Hubs got a slow cooked chicken dish that he thoroughly enjoyed. We were excited to try this restaurant before a Pirates game since it's conveniently located near PNC Park. The food looked great, our server was friendly and attentive, and overall the food was very good. Unfortunately, one employee, an older, thin gentleman who appeared to be the food runner, left us with a very different impression. When he brought out our appetizer while I was sitting alone at the table, he was pleasant and took the time to explain the dish. However, when he returned with our entrees and saw my Hispanic husband, his demeanor changed dramatically. He abruptly dropped the plates on the table, turned his back, and walked away. The same thing happened again when dessert arrived. Instead of the friendly interaction from earlier, he said, "You again?" and dropped the dessert on the table. I can't know exactly what was behind his behavior, but the contrast in how we were treated before and after he saw my husband was impossible to ignore. It's disappointing because the food and our server were both very good, but this interaction significantly affected our experience. read more

Cool Argentine restaurant right across the bridge from the baseball stadium downtown. Happened to be in Pittsburgh from out-of-town and decided to hit this spot out due to all the great reviews I see about it online. Walked in at around 3 PM on a Friday afternoon, no reservation needed. Not many people there at the time. Both bar and regular table seating was available - I chose to sit at a table. 3-4 PM is the last hour of the restaurant's lunch menu; after 4 they switch to a dinner menu where there tends to be a larger crowd. Ordered to Carne steak sandwich at the recommendation of the waiter. I would've gotten the Braised Beef (most popular item on menu) with no onions or radish but the waiter said the onions and radish basically make the sandwich so he recommended I get the Carne sandwich instead. Sandwich comes with choice of chips or a small salad (I chose chips). Gaucho Parilla offers a happy hour on Tuesdays-Friday from 3-6 PM featuring $2 off bears and half-off appetizers, including the offering of 2 empanadas for only $7.50. I didn't get any appetizers but ordered a local IPA called Fire on the Hill which was pretty good, nothing special. The food came out pretty quickly (10 minute wait at most). All sandwiches are served on Ciabatta bread, which for me was different though the bread was fine. Overall the sandwich was good (not great). Tasty, though they included more red peppers in the sandwich than I would've liked. Will probably try something else on the menu if I return. Good restaurant with a nice ambiance inside, though it struck me as being maybe a bit overrated given the all the excellent ratings I see online. For me, more of a solid 4* restaurant rather than 5*. But would definitely recommend if you've never been and happen to be in town! read more

Went here for date night and it was awesome deliciously great time. We had a reservation at 7pm, which I highly recommend you do. The restaurant has two floors. There is an elevator there which is good for anyone that cannot utilize the stairs. We were seated on the first floor, but I will say the environment is quite loud. Our server was great - he was professional, polite, and attentive. My wife and I only ordered drinks the main course and were so glad we did because the food portions were big! We ordered the braised beef sandwich and house-cut vacio steak. It was absolutely delicious! Our meat cooked to perfection and the flavor was fantastic. If there were more stars available, they would be given! Do not pass this place up!!! We couldn't get a reservation for 6 during dinner hours that worked with the timing of our schedule so went for lunch. We will be talking about our experience here for quite some time. Just incredible. Not a huge space, but super welcoming and comfortable. There's a bar, tables, and an upstairs. Not sure if there's tables up there or not. It is an open kitchen concept. The cooks even say hello and walk by to make sure all is well. There's no way I am going to remember every single thing that we ordered as I was part of a large party, but I will tell you that whatever was ordered was absolutely delicious. There was silence once our meals were delivered as we were all thoroughly enjoying ourselves in the amazing flavors that were in each dish. There was a special grilled peach salad, Rosemary Beef sandwich, Burger, Carne, and several appetizers. There's also a tray of 4 sauces to add to all the things. The grilled bread that is served with them is amazing on its own. All of the sandwiches and burger are served with grilled bread. I can't stress this enough - get all the things!!! Your tastebuds will explode. The quality and flavors are unparalleled to anything you may have had. There are many options in the menu and a wide range of prices. Seated via Resy Reservations Food & Drink: 4 / 5 - Mixed drink: Absolutely amazing twist on the espresso martini (according to the description at the time). Unfortunately, do not remember the name, but it was a featured drink and would order it over and over again if I didn't have to drive. - Food: Appetizer - Mejillones en Escabeche: Never had mussels before, but I am always open to try new dishes and this did not disappoint. Served with multiple dipping sauces which were all absolutely sublime. Main Entree - LOMO: Cooked medium rare like a steak should be. Overall, delicious. No issues when it came to the steak nor the potatoes served along it. Dessert - Budin de Chocolate: Not a big sweets fan, and sadly it shows when eating this dish. No reservation is about 30 - 45 minute wait from what I heard from the hostess to the walk-ins. However, after eating there, I understand why its popularity exist. The food in every way is delicious except for the cost. In no way is Guacho a "budget-friendly" restaurant, and in my opinion you definitely pay more for the atmosphere. I have heard "hacks" from other people to get more bang for your buck and plan to try them out next time, but since it was my first time at Guacho, I had to try the steak. Stopped into Gauchos after a rain delay at a Pirates game and had a great experience. We were able to grab seats at the bar and get served right away, which was perfect given the circumstances. They had a Pirates game day special with a Miller Lite draft and a glizzy, which was a fun and easy option. I was actually getting a little sad as the plates started emptying out. We started off with the Los Chimmis and Tostado, Parrillada Mixta, Paella del Gaucho, Vegetales Mixta, and the Con Pan Carne (the vacio steak sandwich, recommended by our server). Everything was so good, we just couldn't stop there, so we ended up adding the Con Pan Pollo (the chicken sandwich, also recommended) because honestly, we just weren't ready for it to be over. It was such a great way to start off the Good Friday weekend, and it also happened to be my very first time trying Argentinian style BBQ. I feel like all reviews of restaurants should immediately start with how the food is. Gaucho offers some fantastic options with a fun menu, which gives you some optionality when ordering depending on what mood you're in. The chimmichurri's are all great, the bread along with it has a solid char that adds some flavor, but nothing crazy as a standout. The chorizo was solid. I enjoyed the caramelized onions, or carmies, that came with it more than the sausage itself. Both the beef and chori-pollo empanadas were great. Can't go wrong ordering those. We also ordered a side of Patata Dulce that's listed under their sides as an appetizer. That was probably the best thing we had in general. If you enjoy sweet potatoes, definitely try this. I ordered the Carne sandwich, which was crazy. That steak was cooked perfectly, and tons of unique flavor profiles and textures. The ciabatta was great. Dad got the House-Cut Vacio. Also fantastic, perfect cook and exactly what you want from a steak. Now, the reason this is closer to a 3/4 star rather than a 5 star review was the Braised Beef and service. My brother got it since it's the #1 item, but it just didn't turn out well. I think maybe it was just one of those times you get unlucky and catch it at a bad time, but the sandwich itself wasn't good. The assembly was on the lazier side, the bread was extremely dry, and no cohesion of the ingredients. It all felt quickly thrown together with leftover ingredients if that makes sense. The service was also off. For the most part, I try to leave the negativity at the door if I have a bad experience somewhere, or just won't leave a review in general, but it only feels fair to address it here for what you're paying We got rushed in and out of the building, but it's not like we came at some abnormal time. Our waiter was kind, but obviously didn't want us seated long. The one instance that sticks with me is when they brought my brother's sandwich over, the waiter sat the plate down and accidentally swiped about half the potato chips off the plate. Obviously an accident, no big deal, but several employees saw it and nobody said a word. No sorry, no cleaning of the pile of chips next to my brother, no offer for more chips. Maybe I am nitpicking, but it felt kinda crazy for what the bill costs. What a disappointment with the food and the price. Ordered the filet mignon at $75 and was extremely disappointed. The amount of spice on both the steak and the potatoes made them inedible. I expect Argentine food to be a little spicy, but this was to the extent of ruining the meal. We will NEVER go back here to eat again. Really like Gaucho but I'm only giving 4 stars as they've taken a few rockstar items off their menu (please bring back the Arracherra Flank Steak!!) Recommendations: Provoletta or Camarones for appetizers. The Vacio house cut steak is chef's kiss, as is the Lomo but its significantly more expensive. Pro Tip: Get the Los Chimmis Con Tostado with your meal. This is all 4 of their homemade chimichurris. You can thank me later :) Also, adding the "carmies" (caramelized onions) to a steak is a great move.
