Five stars with a caveat: don't go to Iona just for a meal or a drink here. If you're visiting the…read moreisland for tourism, or you're blessed to know or be an island resident, then this is the place to go for food. They have a wide selection, much of which is on display and the rest on menu boards. It's prepared promptly and served to you on a tray - they even brought it to my table for me. As for the food quality, much of it is homemade, always impressive in such a remote town even during tourist season. The haddock chowder was a bit thin and lacked substantial fish bits, but I did cheat at the end and added some coffee cream and that enhanced it greatly. Mull mussels were on special and I was compelled to eat the island. I actually got a lot of mussels for my money, all delicious, and I drank the garlic wine sauce at the end. There are a couple of other places on the island with food. The smaller stores sold out by 4 pm, the only competitor to Martyrs is a hotel that felt hoity from the outside. I heartily recommend you choose the Bay for eating on Iona, and in fact I do recommend you grab a bite here before boarding a vessel off the island. The island deserves your pounds and Martyrs will make you glad you spent them.

Good and reasonably priced food, especially those £2.50 meat pies I can't seem to get enough of. The nice little bar area that has draft beers £3.50-4 pint. For a tiny island away from civilization, I was pleasantly surprised these prices were lower than London.

I ordered the mixed seafood platter, large portions and well-prepared. A nice wine list, too. We were very satisfied with our choice for dinner. The tiny restaurant has a few tables on the first floor and a few on the second floor. We sat on the second floor. Servers were nice. Quiet. I had to ask for a lot of things at different times (eg napkins, spoons, plates, water refill 2xs, etc) but I know they were busy. We ordered a plate that had 3 different grilled fish on it- it was good. Tiny pieces of fish but good. We also got a fried platter (eg fried shrimp) which was also good. I really liked the chips - my partner wasn't a fan- he said they were too mushy but that's how I like my chips. Tartar sauce is REALLY good. The toffee pudding was OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING. Ohhh you must get that! It was listed as a special on their board. Menu items we ordered were quite pricey. But I support this family owned business!
