The serial number places it from the Yamaha factory in Japan in the early 70s. They said that it would be inspected and I would get a phone call about an estimate. They did not review the horn with me. It should have been my first red flag. A few days later I get a call informing me that 'the instrument needs a complete overhaul and that when they put a light in it it was just full of leaks everywhere and would cost $1500 in labor and $200 in parts and that it wasn't worth it because of the value of the instrument' in an arrogant judgmental tone. When I picked up the horn, I was again told about leaks. This told me everything I needed to know because I too have put a light down my instrument to find the leaks and know exactly where a 1972 vintage alto that's never had it's pad replaced is leaking. And it wasn't were he was pointing to. I don't know who hurt you or which horn you're confusing mine with but I felt like I was being lied to. If you didn't want to do the work, simply let me know. Telling me my instrument isn't worth fixing is unacceptable. I determine the value of my horn, not you. And being rude about it is even more unacceptable. I guess with the closing of AG Music in Oakland and abundant USD student rentals, there's no space for the community musician in their shop. Be warned when you cross their handyman-grade aluminum threshold.

Since he studied physics, he is also incredibly talented in math. My daughter often says that he makes math much easier to understand, and that has really helped her build confidence before starting high school. IThere were no real improvements among his 3 practice test AJ Tutors administered. I asked the instructor about this and he said it was typical but let's see how the SAT goes and then we can assess if we want a 1:1 session (more $$ of course). We received the SAT scores and the total score has no improvement. After the 2nd practice test I inquired if we could get a list of question that were answered incorrectly so we could focus/revise studying and it didn't happen. The program is very expensive to not see any gains or meaningful improvement in overall test score from the practice tests. Instructors should know how to get students past a plateau.

We are Redwood City residents who have been part of the California Conservatory of Guitar since…read moreit's inception. It has grown from the main school in Santa Clara to Redwood City too! Not driving to Santa Clara for private lessons with our teacher on weekdays is awesome. Both our sons have been taking weekly lessons since a young age and love coming for them. They are in book 6 and 9 now and progressing well. The teachers are dedicated, active classical guitar professionals themselves and great role models in the musical journeys of their students. Kids have developed personal relationships with their teachers over the years. Santa Clara location hosts group lessons, ensembles or recitals on weekends for students of both locations. I do recommend these for the all-around musical development of the kids and it encourages socializing with peers. Overall, kudos and high recommendation for California Conservatory of Guitar program if your son or daughter is interested in classical guitar. Learning any musical instrument is not easy so picking good teachers for the journey is important along with parental support and commitment.

At the end of his 2nd year, he was able to sight read fairly well, and was comfortable playing more advanced pieces. Maria is very responsive and easy to communicate with. She always gave me her genuine opinion and tried her best to personalize the piano experience.
