I'm very disappointed in my experience with Long and Foster. I spent the better part of two weeks…read moretrying to get in touch with Lynn Chambers regarding a rental property. After being pervasively ignored and mislead, my partner and I filled application forms for the property, only to be informed hours after applying that we would not be considered for the property because it was being sold! Complete waste of my time and $200 of application fees! The cherry on top is that a few days later my partner I notice a drop in our credit scores due to a hard credit check run by Long and Foster. This is a totally inappropriate and disrespectful way to treat prospective tenants. Without some show of good will or the removal of their hard credit check I will surely never consider patronizing Long and Foster again.

Awful. Simply awful…read more We walked in one day in response to an ad for a rental. Turns out that had been gone for weeks. After the requisite bait-and-switch, we looked at another place. The agent didn't know where it was. I had to look it up on my cell phone up and give him directions. Then he couldn't even open the door. I literally had to take the key and let us in. He was on his cell phone calling his office for assistance. Afterwards he was unable to answer any questions. One agent down, I found a property listed by Sharon Hughes, another agent. It just got worse. Seldom have I encountered quite such a mix of unethical behavior, arrogance, unresponsiveness and plain old stupidity in one package as Ms. Hughes. Over the course of a week Ms. Hughes failed to send an application when she promised, screamed at me multiple times, failed to represent my interests at all, and then finally refused to take a very reasonable counter-offer to the property owner, which I'm pretty sure violates their code of ethics. When I pointed out to her that she was asking me to sign away legal rights I had and put me at financial risk she responded that I just had to trust the owner of the property and that she'd be doing this a long time and I didn't know what I was talking about. It was a jaw dropping experience. Where do they find these people? Never again. Avoid at all costs.

However, he also owns the dilapidated house next door to the property in negotiations. Not only was his behavior a conflict of interest, it was unethical from multiple perspectives. He listens at the front end. We told him what we were looking for, and the set of listings he showed us left us with some tough--but good-- choices to make. All of his listings seemed almost intuitive to our lifestyle and fell in the range of what we were looking to spend. Mike never pressured us at any step of the way, but he answered questions whenever we had them. He seemed to have a real passion for connecting folks to the "right fit" in a home, and we really appreciated that a lot. He knew a lot about Baltimore, the history of the 'hoods, and did a good job of educating us when we had questions (We looked at stuff in Hampden, Lauraville, Fells, Highlandtown, and Fed Hill). Once we made our decision, Mike really stayed on top of things and made the process easy. I know we didn't create the biggest commission for him, but he treated us like we did, and it genuinely felt like he was representing us at every step of the process. I think that's what we appreciated the most about him. In short, we felt like he took great care of us, and he knew his stuff. He shot straight through the whole process, and we won't hestiate to seek him out if we buy again or sell in the area.
