Art always challenges one to shift one perspective and muse new ways of thought and bent on life. The patio and outdoor landscape is equal parts calmness with water gently gurgling, koi fish swimming with lush pretty plantings and equal parts First Friday pumping techno bass, food trucks and art stalls. If you find it's hard to get your child to practice music at home, you'll also know how nearly impossible it is when traveling. In the past I have contacted music schools, rented instruments, and even bought a keyboard and hardcase. Each of these solutions created its own problem from the school that said we could use any open practice room only to be barged in on by a very pissed off nine-year old who insisted we were using "her" piano, to having to returned to a music store for parts missing from the keyboard we rented, to having to pay a hefty additional fee to the airline for the oversized instrument case. By good fortune I found Dodge Music when planning our trip to Phoenix. Miciah made it easy to arrange and pay for practice space but the best part was the studio itself, a nicely furnished and impeccably clean room with a well-tuned baby grand. Sure beat the shoebox sized and airless practice rooms that we had to put up with in the past using console pianos that were on their last leg. Miciah was friendly, obliging but never intrusive and let my son get on with his practice as soon as we stepped in. An added bonus was Miciah's dog Gizmo, a very gentle, short-hair dog who would hang out with us. My son is very allergic to animal dander but both the house and Gizmo were almost antiseptically clean (compare my house anyway). My son didn't have any problems with his allergies and Gizmo was a welcomed lesson companion. Even though my son wasn't taking lessons from Miciah, I can say with confidence that his studio exude a relaxed atmosphere where one can readily focus on lessons. Thanks a lot, Miciah and you too, Gizmo!

She absolutely loved her class, which, as a mom, is really the best feeling when you're trying to find an activity that your child genuinely enjoys. What I really love about Phoenix Center for the Arts is the variety of classes they offer. There are opportunities for youth in music, art, theater, writing, and dance, along with classes for adults, so it feels like a true creative community rather than just a place for one particular type of class. Their music offerings include piano, guitar, ukulele, and more. The building itself was very clean and well-kept, and I appreciated that the classes weren't overly large. The smaller setting made the experience feel more personal and gave the instructor a chance to actually connect with the students. Her instructors have been so kind, patient, and welcoming, which made her feel comfortable and excited to come back. I also really appreciate that this is a place where children can explore their creativity and build confidence in a nurturing environment. There's something special about watching a child discover that they can learn an instrument, express themselves through art, or simply find something they're passionate about. As a mom, finding activities where my kids feel welcomed, encouraged, and genuinely happy matters so much. Phoenix Center for the Arts has been a beautiful addition to our routine, and seeing my stepdaughter enjoy her piano classes has made the experience even more meaningful. Serial killer speakeasy was killer! Haha…read more The shows were great! They were like mini stories about the 4 serial killers; Gein, Dahmer, Gacy & Bundy! I got the mocktails, and let me tell you... they were DELICIOUS! My favorite was the 2nd drink with the sprinkles, and the last one with Biscoff was my 2nd favorite! The show was also very interactive with the crowd, which made it even more fun! The only downside was the ladies sitting behind me, they were VERY loud and talked way too much, which was pretty annoying. But overall, the show moved pretty fast, and luckily there were 4 bathroom breaks! Definitely made it easy to enjoy the whole thing!

Don't accidently go to Phoenix Theater when you come to the show. It is a smaller more intimate theater across the street in the BMO building. Snacks and beer and wine available. The cast was hilarious, the drinks were great and they did an awesome job involving the audience. I was honestly worried it might be a little cringe, but I was laughing the whole time! What really stood out was how they handled a medical emergency toward the end of the show. One of the actors noticed right away, the lights came up immediately, they asked if there were any doctors or nurses and they cleared the area so quickly and professionally. It was really impressive to watch. Once they made sure everything was okay, the show picked right back up and everyone was able to keep having a great time. Drunk Pirates is the offspring of the Drunken Shakespeare Society based out of downtown Phoenix in the Arizona Center. Find the parking valet on the west-facing block and look for the red door and the line. Once inside, you are sat in a "theater in the round setting" that holds around 75 people, so there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. You are greeted with a shot of blue curaçao as you prepare for the evening. For this iteration of the show, you are told the story of Treasure Island with a parody and improv twist. The actors are supremely friendly, funny, and approachable before and after the show, but when the show begins is where they really shine. As you can guess from the name, there are ample opportunities for crowd work, crowd participation, and improv games with pop culture references aplenty. Now for the four-star review. If anyone from the show reads this, I would say my biggest critique comes from the projection and pacing of the dialogue delivery. At many points through the evening, it was hard to hear punchlines either through the volume of the delivery or articulation. Another critique came from those sitting next to us, that I happen to agree with. A guy next to us was explaining to his friends that throughout the show, one of the actors would be the designated drinker and would be taking shots the entire performance. His party was disappointed when the actor took six shots the entire hour. I don't think we expected the guy to get commode hugging plastered, but we all hoped some bad decisions would be made and slips of the tongue would occur à la Drunk History style. At the end of the day, we had a great night and laughed a lot, and that's what we looked forward to. There are lots of cocktail drinks and not a lot of food options, so eat before you go. They also don't validate, so grab some Coldstone ice cream on the way out!

Definitely an interesting experience, but I admit straight away that this experience is a little…read morepricey. I like the fact that there are daring enough to challenge the audience with nudity (both male and female) in a very tasteful artistic way and I'd give them high regard for that. It honestly reminds me a lot of what the Greeks used to do through the history of their plays and performances. There were a few minor things that I had disagreements about when I went. First off it may have just been that performance but the play I attended just didn't see them that well written. Again it could've been a bad play on this attendance and it doesn't mean I won't give it another chance to see if the writing of gotten a little better. On a positive side, it was good to see them use actors who are new to the acting experience to get them seasoning. So when you go you will definitely see local upcoming talent on stage. The other negative part I have was the sound quality. They had to use headset with microphone which I thought took away from the experience of watching one on stage. There are a lot of feedback issues, dropped sound quality, and the likes which took away from the experience. I think though this too could be rectified with a little work backstage for the next time. I would like to go again and see what they have to offer. Definitely This place gives you a whole new perspective to the idea of theater which I think is a good idea. It is a pricey ticket though so be forewarned.
