I had the special opportunity to take a three day intensive class focused on an Impressionistic Approach to Watercolors with the world renowned Watercolor painter from Uruguay, Alvaro Castagnet. He taught us to look for the revolution within the painting & not 'paint pretty' We don't make pussy cats we make lions! And being a Leo myself this was incredible to hear. Interesting new concepts I learned like Maintain dirty water and never refresh it. Never clean the palette so one can Blend colors you have never seen before. Look for Lost & Found brushstrokes. Alvaro reminded me, To Paint with authority / Do not ever lack authority. because, If you are not confident it will show In your painting. All Three days we learned everything from figures to Cafè culture to architecture to interiors and all the time messing up or having a success on repeat ; most importantly "Our mistakes in life are our greatest teachers." We were able to get a water bottle engraved and I've been using it daily ever since. I explored the space more and saw that they had several 3D printers, large photo/poster printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, laser cutter, metal and wood workshop, and probably more that I missed. Membership is free to MCCCD students, faculty and staff and they charge at cost for materials, which is a great deal. It's open to the public as well and they have membership options. Staff were welcoming, knowledgeable, and easy to chat with. I would love to come back and explore more of their offerings!

I went…read morein with no expectations other than a curiosity for acting and was immediately met with Rachel's warmth, which made me feel so welcome and comfortable even though I was pretty nervous about getting up on stage. In the 8-week session, we covered a variety of acting techniques, played improv games, and had an opportunity to dissect scripts. I left each class inspired and energized! AZAA is a great community whose focus is to give you actionable techniques so you can begin auditioning within a few months of training! They have a variety of courses, workshops, and a Facebook group where they post auditions, all of which expose students to the full business of acting. AZAA is a truly comprehensive studio. Take a great artist/instructor, a couple of fantastic support staff,…read moreone cool summer evening on the patio.... add that to a birthday celebration, 20 of your best friends, throw in some fantastic pot luck, generous amounts of liquid refreshments (elbows up, please), one beautiful full moon, a clear night and thousands of stars. Splash in a perfect pool and hot tub as needed, mix it all together and you become the best partner ever for pulling off the best birthday celebration ever! Who knew??!! Painting with Canvas is the bomb! The price is right, and they bring all the needed supplies. All we had to do was extend invites and make sure we had tables and chairs. Francesca and her assistant Lana couldn't have been more enjoyable during the event, and Stephanie - who helps support from afar - made it all seem so very easy, so much help to make this a perfect evening. One thing in particular we enjoyed was Francesca shared a lot of information about the painting we were doing as we moved through the evening - details about the artist, his life, and how it related to the painting. Who Knew??!! You can have fun AND learn at the same time! Don't worry - if you've never put brush to paint to canvas before ... if you can't draw a box (like me) - you CAN do this! They step you through each part to create your masterpiece, and along the way they help you learn technique, understand some of the painting concepts, as well as help you to enjoy painting your own creation! We will do it again, and next time, perhaps, we'll have the easels setup poolside and have everyone in the water! I can't stress enough how fun it was to host this at our home. I am not artsy, I can't even draw perfect stick people, my birds look like m's, my drawing skill is…read morestill somewhere in the 1st grade level, but there is this artist inside of me that just keeps trying and have been wanting to do a painting class for years now, just never was brave enough to step out of my comfort zone to show up in public and make a fool of myself. With that said I found a really great offer on Living Social for a 2 hour paint class for 2 for the price of one person with Painting on Canvas so I bought it an then I quickly messaged my partner in crime and see if she was up for it, and thankfully she said yes! Booked a class a month out from when I bought the deal and waited for the day. I was a bundle of nerves, I can't draw, seriously can not draw, but Francesca was super nice and helpful and gave great instructions and technique and slowly my blank white canvas started to have something on it, that looked ok. This was fun, it was stressful because I was fearful of messing up (which I did plenty of) but it was fun and rewarding, and honestly I can't wait to do it again haha. Who knows maybe the inner artist in me will finally work their way out! Now time to find my next class with Painting On Canvas.
