He calls you before the first class to check in and see what you're looking to get out of the class, which really personalizes the whole experience for you. The beginner class is 6 people for three hours, which lets you get a decent amount of 1 on 1 instruction when needed. You start out making bracelet cuffs and transition into rings and pendants after two classes. Copper & brass are free to use and silver is extra $$. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and we did a few events this year (2025). They can accomplish up to 120 people I think and the rates are pretty good for both profit and non-profit organizations. The sound and lights are perfect for a drama, small scale concerts, presentations, rehearsals, etc. A huge parking lot, green room, restrooms, good enough space for registration desk when needed. Sorry to highlight it but sometimes the homeless folks from the street enter the hall without performing and there is no security, so you have to manage that part on your own especially when you have kids and seniors with you. All in all, a good and budget friendly place to host your events. Advanced booking highly recommended. read more

We like to see Arizona Regional Theatre perform their musicals here. The theatre is a former church, all seats are have a great view due to the intimate size and the acoustics are good. They offer light snacks at intermission, popcorn, candy and chips and it is nice to gaze across the neighborhood from the top of the entry stairs, or walk across Hance park before or after the show. read more

A long list of art, dance, and other classes for adults and youth! The teachers really know their craft so you'll feel in good hands whether you take a beginners course in pottery or an advanced glass blowing class. I, for one, adore the painting classes. It's a stress reliever and a really fun time! The classes are in block schedules so you pay for the entire "semester". It's well worth it when you break down the cost per class. Most classes also offer supplies in the class cost. Make sure to inquire though. Website is easy to use and informative. Class schedule and everything else is up there! Every year the park next door hosts a festival for the arts (3 days of awesome hand crafted and made goodies to be bought here!) and I never miss a year. read more

Awesome place. The theater is small and not fancy or anything but it is really cool. Of course every seat is great since it is a smaller venue. I have seen several local productions here and it is always great! They sell popcorn and soda at break time too. No fancy vendors just a few people selling items. I like the casualness of it all, thus five stars for that and the fact It screams,"community." They have a lot offer here as far as classes too. A friend taught art here over the summer and she loved it. Check it out. Another person posted about parking. It is in Downtown Phoenix but I have never had any issue parking here. In fact I upped the stars to five from four because parking is easy here. It is a benefit over other DT theaters since they have their own lot and it is free. The only heads up I would give is that Google maps is wrong. It does not direct you correctly to this place. It is located right on Third Street south of Mcdowell. Not sure why this is, but heads up with that warning to save you time. If you head south on Third Street you can not miss it. it is right off to your right (West) and a huge building. YAY for Art! I need to refresh on my art. So I was so thankful that I was able to find this place.I live in Old Town Scottsdale so I am only a 15 minute drive away from the center. I am enrolled in soft pastel and figure drawing/ painting. The classes are three hours once a week. I foresee myself taking a bunch of classes here! I am so excited. I actually went to my first class yesterday with P. Olive. Olive teaches the soft pastel painting class. She is wonderful and I learned so much in our one three hour class than I could have ever imagined. Parking is easy. There is a large parking lot right in front of the learning center. Classes range in price. My two classes were a little under 400$. One class is a 8 week class and one of my classes is a 6 week class. So for the amount of classes I am taking its a pretty good deal. I am in shock that I am the first person to write a review on this place! It is freakin amazing. Am I truly the first Yelper to discover this gem? I mean, come-on, this is Phoenix's own Art's Community Center. They offer art classes (music, photography, ceramics, pottery, glass, drawing, pastel, etc.) to both children and adults. So far this year, I have taken both a drawing/painting class and am currently in a piano class. The location could not be any more perfect. It's right next to Burton Barr Library in those historic brick buildings on the park. The instructors are all professional artists with degrees in the arts + they are incredibly cool people. It's a great Saturday morning ritual that allows her creative expression, socializing with kids her age, and an opportunity to burn off some of that excess energy children have in abundance. Like last year's reviewer we were very much underwhelmed by this festival. Interesting concept of the artists creating the large paintings all around the perimeter of the property and then selling them for charity on the last day. Only one food truck on the premises (Short Leash, yummm) but we weren't really there for the food. Lots of booths for associations, groups and charities and short on some of the art media. Weird stage area set up and hardly anyone there They've got a ways to go to even come close to competing with any other art festival in the area. read more

PCFA is a true gem. After spending a great deal of money at Desert Botanical Gardens (DBG) for the Master Photography classes and getting very little actual instruction for my money, I thought I would try PCFA a try and if that didn't work out I would give up my DSLR camera. I completed the Essentials class and got more out of the first night with Kirby, than the entire course at DBG. I just completed the Travel Photography class with Arnie, and am signed up the for the advanced Digital Photography class next. All three courses together cost less just the six "Masters" classes at DBG. For you film buffs, they have one of the few operating Dark Rooms and courses to guide you through if you haven't ever used a dark room or it has been a long time since you used one and need a refresher. The environment is supportive, positive, and fun, while you learn a lot. read more

I will start my review by saying that I have wanted to take a photography class my entire life. After finally giving in and buying my first DSLR camera, I immediately sought out education to learn how to use the functions of my camera and to learn how to take fantastic photographs. Now, I needed a class. There are many independent photography studios around Phoenix, as well as Community Colleges, who offer workshops and classes for upwards of $300+, sometimes for only a three or four hour session. A friend of mine told me about PCFA after he had taken a painting class there and I decided to look into it. WOW. I immediately signed up for a 7 week (3 hrs per week) class for only $150 (for the entire 7 weeks). The class was incredible. The instructor, Arne Williams, is a veteran photographer (also a very cool guy I might add) who has been a professional since the 1960s and is an excellent teacher. He will teach you the ins-and-outs of your camera functions, lighting techniques, composition, shutter speeds, aperture.. you name it and he knows all about it. On a weekly basis, he provided the class with lots of great literature to take home and study for some more in-depth knowledge about taking good SLR pictures. On top of all of this, we went on three "field trips" where instead of meeting in the classroom, we went to some different spots around Phoenix to take shots and practice different camera functions. I studied English at the UA and would have expected an equivalent in beginning photography education from a university. After I completed the 7 week course this spring, I spent the summer practicing my new skills and feel so much more comfortable using my camera than I ever had before (In Manual :) Also important to mention that I work 40+ hours per week (m-f) in my day job and the class was conveniently scheduled from 6-9 PM ever Wednesday. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in starting out with a DSLR. Side note: My friend took a beginning Oil painting class with Edna Dapo and was equally impressed with his course. He probably does not use Yelp so I'll just go ahead and plug a good review in here for him too :) I would expect that all classes offered here would be a great value in art education and definitely worth the investment. read more

I have always felt an urge to draw or paint and finally signed up for my first ever class with Edna earlier this year, and then immediately signed up for another. The classes have a nice relaxed vibe and I think they are a great value, especially the figure drawing class with live models. Skill levels vary a lot, so don't be afraid that you will embarrass yourself in any way. Everyone makes you feel like you are an artist, even the awe inspiring experienced ones painting next to you. Sub-par customer service - did not return calls, cancel classes without giving notice, and do not refund you if you cant attend a class. The instructors can cancel the day of the class with little notice. Took 2 weeks for "Alyssa" to return my call and when she did she claimed I did not contact early enough to receive a refund. While they may offer good opportunities to learn new skills, the management at this place is amateur at best. read more

If you're looking to be motivated or have your creative juices ignited, look elsewhere. It was almost two years ago when I walked into Edna Dapos' life drawing class with as close to no experience in drawing the human figure as possible. Three hours I walked out with a drawing of a person! I have continued to take the classes and have no intention of ever stopping. Edna's teaching style encourages one to develop ones own skills and style using ones own choice of art supplies and tools. Additionally, these classes are a community of supportive artists as well.
