I ordered a patty melt, and someone there had a sense of humor or the cook has no clue what a patty melt is. What they gave me was a hamburger patty between two slices of marble rye bread with a grilled onion on top. That was it. That's what they served me as a patty melt. I would suggest a little closer supervision of the cook, and the food that leaves the kitchen. That was pretty sad. I pass by there frequently, and thought I'd give it a try. I have been in Oregon for two years with no southern cooking except for my own. I am a dyed in the wool Chicken Fried steak fanatic, however Oregon's version of CFS is obscene. They use brown gravy! If you ask for cream gravy they give you white breakfast gravy with sausage (SMH). I am at home visiting my family today and I visited the Armadillo grill. I ordered their CFS and from the very first bite I was in heaven. The breading was crisp and flavorful, the steak was juicy and delicious, and the gravy was thick and perfect (and white) . The sides were yummy, the wait staff were awesome, the decor wonderful and the price point was very reasonable. If you drive past this place, keep driving till you leave Texas because you don't deserve to live in our great state. read more

Whoa dude! What the heck is going on here? I've been here many times as I am a truck driver. So it's been a little while since was last here. But imagine my chagrin when was given a totally new drastically paired down menu. Just very basic hum drum boring options. No healthy options of any kind. Service ok. Oh while I'm at it I'll add something I always hated. They certainly don't want you to sit around any longer than necessary as their seats are very uncomfortable. Place is quite charming, seats can be a bit hard for older folks to sit in since there's no cushion, although it's very common to see old cowboys and ranchers there, so maybe it's not too bad lol. Real inconsistent quality, just depends on which chef you get, pancakes are usually great! Burgers range from okay to great, ribs are a no go, fries and onion rings are usually overcooked, so if you like them really crunchy then you'll like these! It could use a good scrubbing, primarily the windows, they clean the tables regularly and i haven't noticed any other issues relating to cleanliness, so that's good. read more

This is our second visit. Once 2 mo ago for a early lunch. Service was good and food was good. This visit....eh‍. Our server, well... sometimes I suppose they have off days. A more mature, blond cute "messy updo" A few tattoos.... Overly passive rude‍,. To add to her rudeness, once food arrived she slid it over to us and walked away, she did not check on us. When leaving she ook my payment and turned around and walked away.... That's to bad! The restaurant was not full of patrons. The restaurant appears to have some locals who & we were from out of town. ‍Food, we ordered one burger no cheese (came out with cheese) we did not feel comfortable to ask her for the burger we ordered with no cheese, & one Texas patty melt, in both the meat cooked awesome. The bread and cheese, must have been left under broiler to long, both dried up. Reminded me of when you forget about the bread in the toaster once it comes out and gets dry. Usually patty melts served with mustard and onions. One extremely large onion(felt like the onion was cut In Half and served in my patty melt, still had the outside skin left on it. I had to go ask for mustard... I ordered a sweet potato instead of fries, came out and was cool. The fries that came with burger were what appeared to be left over fries perhaps dunked back in the oil to reheat. They had a overgreased appearance. Perhaps I'll try to come at opening. Best breakfast ever! Last leg of a long road trip, so many disappointing breakfasts, then we find this gem. Delicious coffee, perfectly prepared egg over medium, fresh crispy home fries, marbled rye toast and just right crispy bacon. I was disappointed that the last order of biscuits and gravy had just been ordered so I settled, or so I thought, for grits. A bowl of fresh grits to which I added butter and, at the suggestion of our server Jill, brown sugar, ended up being my favorite. Jill was cheerful, accommodating and very efficient. We look forward to seeing her again on our next visit. Armadillo Grill will definitely be a must stop for us on future road trips! Ah this place in the early morning driving back into Wichita Falls from the DFW area, I have been here twice on my travels and I kid you not, I have not found many places quite like this. The server is friendly, and of course the food. Both times I had a big plate, so big that I nearly couldn't finish the entire meal. The first time I misjudged the homemade cinammon roll, it was gigantic and I needed to take half of it with me on the trip. You'll usually find the locals here in the morning, and they're great to talk to. I love small towns, so I find it great to hear their stories about the going ons of the city. They make you feel welcome and are always checking to make sure you're taken care of. I honestly haven't had a bad experience yet from the folks here. read more

Yet another great find from Yelp! I was traveling back from a sales call and decided to try this place out, I wasn't disappointed! At first glance this was a rundown place, but once you walk inside it looks just like a restaurant that would be in Dallas! I had to try the "Armadillo Toes" because it's their specialty! These are bacon wrapped jalapeno's stuffed with monterey jack cheese. They were great and not over the top spicy. For my entree I tried the chicken fried buffalo steak with fries and cottage cheese. It was excellent and not to greasy. Overall, the service was great and I'm looking forward to driving through Bowie again! read more

True Southern cooking at its finest. Chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, Grandma's pot roast? Take your pick. I decided to go with a 6oz sirloin steak with a salad and baked potato. The steak was perfectly cooked with wonderful flavor. Our waitress was absolutely sweet. She checked in often and made sure everything came out as we'd hoped. Incredibly homely food and service! Texas big and family friendly! Quaint location with country decor. Country fried steak has a delicious crispy crust and the gravy is full of peppery flavor! Home chips are fresh and the make-it-your-own omelet is cheezy, juicy and filling, for sure! Chorizo breakfast is seasoned just ready right and comes with homemade flour tortillas. Real "corned beef hash!" We've eaten breakfast all over Texas and my husband always orders the hash. It's always canned. This place has the real deal! Really huge, skillet pancakes. The servings are just huge. We've previously eaten at the "cute" place on main street and weren't impressed. We drove farther off our route for this and, boy, are we glad we did!! Although the food is very tasty and the prices are good the wait staff leave something to be desired. It depends on who your waiter is. They are all friendly but certain waiters will leave you sitting quite a while before even taking your drink order and then you have to flag them down for refills or even to get your check. We still like to eat there but if our favorite waitress isn't there we plan on our meal taking 20-25 minutes longer. This causes us to choose another restaurant if we are on a time schedule. read more
