She was wanting to find a local park with a water play area where we could cool off on this hot day. On the internet this park was the only one reporting a functioning water play area. We arrived wearing our swim suits only to be very disappointed. The water play zone is the first thing that you see when you pull in and park and the water wasn't turned on! We decided to stay for a while to let the grandchildren enjoy playing outside on the large jungle jim. It has several places for climbing with curving stone like steps, a wall and a rope spider web. There is a long wide ramp making it very handicap friendly. My 18 month old granddaughter who wasn't walking yet spent a lot of time climbing up the stairs. There are several slides of various sizes and colorful interactive displays with parts that spin and turn in addition to the always fun monkey bars and swings. Off to the right of the jungle jim is a small shelter with 2 picnic tables. Today it was being used by a family having a child's birthday party. There's a shaded bench to sit on and watch the children as they run & play in the water that would be raining down from above and shooting up from below had it turned on that day. After about 20 minutes or so we decided to leave because it was so hot out and my grandson was being disagreeable. We drove to a nice air conditioned restaurant after my son-in-law arrived having driven down to Cincinnati upon getting off of work in the ER. I decided to hike the Gorge Trail, which was very do-able, and ambitiously hoped to even follow the trail around the lake. Oooooops... There is NO LAKE, for the moment, anyway, as they've emptied it for maintenance (!!) Wasn't able to hike around the (dry) lake, as I think that trail was closed, but no worries, I headed back on the Gorge Trail (took a zillion pictures along the way, it's GORGEous!!) and made it back just in time to attend the Hispanic Festival taking place right outside the visitor's center. Looks like there's LOTS of community activities offered here, and it's a GREAT area resource!! Beautiful scenery, some waterfalls apparently, once the rain returns, picnic areas and multiple fun playgrounds for the kiddies, nicely marked trails, TONS of community events, and so much more!! Bathrooms were clean if not extensive although stall door missing a lock. Beach was clean and grass mown so no drama there. There are accessible paved trails that go close to the beach and up from the beach into the woods so older adults and mobility assisted people can participate fairly easily. Definitely just a small snap shot on an event day but it worked for us to come in and out for the morning from two hours drive away.

Caesar's Creek Lake has numerous picnic opportunities, and we note that more than a few folks are visiting today. We choose a delightful pull off overlooking the Lake. I've taken care to select crab cakes from a local deli and assembled crab cake sandwiches; alas, no chardonnay - this is state property.

The playground along the eastern edge of Summit Park was very popular with the kids, There are135 acres (!) of greenspace, a fish-stocked (!) catch-and-release pond, and more climbers and such for older kids. The walkers and dog-owners among us liked the long network of paved paths and the dog-park area. There's a central open space apparently for concerts and such. I admit, i spent most of my time watching from outside the kids' playground, and listening to a band over the covered walkway next to the taco place, with a relaxing beverage from the nearby bar :-). Sometimes it's nice not to be in charge. None of us braved the cool-looking 9-level 153-foot observation tower because the we site said that the elevators were closed at the time. They say you can see downtown! There is also a slippery splash and play "water course" to explore which was closed, too, during our visit. They say there's ice skating in the winter. The whole experience worked for us because of the nice restaurants, bars, and ice cream shops along the north and east edges of the park. We ate twice with different groups at the Mexican taco place, and three times at the park-themed restaurant. We had coffee and drinks from the cafe / bar / bottle-store. We got ice cream twice! We didnt make it to the bakery or the diner, or the chic nail salon which could have been nice for some me-time :-).

Blue Ash Nature Park is a nice little getaway in suburban Cincinnati. It's very easy to miss. The…read morepark isn't large, but there's several miles of trails. It also has an amphitheater. This is a good gathering spot. Although it's in a suburb, it doesn't feel like it. It has several miles of trails that are mostly quiet. The only exception is when there's a concert at the amphitheater, but it's usually something like jazz and not ear shattering. Chances are you will have the trails mostly to yourself if there isn't a concert. The trails are covered in gravel, which helps keep your shoes from getting muddy. It has a few public bathrooms. These aren't the cleanest but they are kept up. If you don't know where it is, you may pass it a few times before noticing it. It's located along Cooper Road. The entrance is next to the police station.

There is nice shade throughout the park, which makes it a great choice even during hot, sunny days. The playgrounds have a variety of equipment, so it's worth exploring each of them if you can encourage your little ones to resist the urge to stay only on the first one on the path. One has a sandbox, another has a neat seesaw that little ones can stand on and bounce back and forth with a friend. Well worth a visit!

The trail around the pond area is paved and easy to walk, and as you approach the far end, signage indicates access to an unimproved trail. It gets a mostly suburban crowd. This is soccer mom heaven. You have to dodge the minivans flying in and out.
