I used to be a wine club member here, but had to cut back on my finances so I'm not anymore. But I miss it every day. This wine tasting room has a relaxed vibe, a far cry away from the snooty, uptight, holier-than-thou Napa crowd. Instead, this place has an amazing selection of their delicious wines in a setting fit for Capitola Beach. They are know for their Poizin Wine which comes in a coffin with a big skull and crossbones on it. But there are some other incredible treats here too. I did the reserve tasting, and even went back to revisit my favorites. I fell in love with the Chardonnay and the Syrah. I had to buy a bottle of each and it was all I could do to not buy a case! read more

This tasting room is in a great spot for foot traffic. Unfortunately, the wine is sub-par. I love wine... a lot... and for the first time I was pouring the wine into the bucket. I think the wine may not have been stored properly? A few of the bottles were stored with a vin vac, and did not hold up well. We had four tastes, but I was done at three... my girlfriend, being an optimist, convinced me to try one more, but it was not good either. We felt bad, because the guy working there was trying really hard... so I will stop before I get into a rant about what was wrong with each wine. read more

Tasting prices have doubled since last time I was here just under a year ago from $5 to $10. Armida Winery main location is located up in Healdsburg (Russian River wine yay!), and they carry a few of the labels in the Capitola tasting room, although Poizon is the ones that will catch your eye. Small, intimate tasting room. Friendly staff, I was grilling them on all my unanswered questions from my last Sonoma trip and they didn't mind at all, were friendly and personable and answered all my questions as far as their expertise would allow them to. They were quite knowledgeable, there was even a young girl in there who was so informed, I thought she went to Sonoma State (she didn't). I love my hearty reds, and unfortunately for my most recent visit, tastings of many of the ones I would have been interested in were reserved for the club members. This is commonplace, so I wasn't pissed, just sorta went "darn!". We did the tasting that was available. The Pinot Noir was a big too sweet for me, but the Chardonnay was quite good which surprised me because I don't like whites very much. Generous pours from both people that day. For bottle purchases $25 and over, you get the tasting comped, so I went ahead and got one of the reds. I don't remember which, and the bottle only has the Poizon logo on it, but I remember liking it so for a net of $15 I say "Sure, why not?" read more

We decided to give this tasting room a try as we were walking around Capitola on a Wednesday and lots of the wine tasting rooms were closed. Really nice and friendly service from the wine pourer guy. He's silent and listens to you chit chat to your friends (or friends that you meet in the tasting room) and then suddenly he's there silently pouring your next tasting. He did answer when you asked a question, or included him in the conversation (as I did). Wine was a bit on the pricey, at least for us, ($30-$50) side but my husband knew I liked it and bought a bottle of the red. I don;t remember the wine tasting fee of $3 pp being waived, I was too tipsy. They also have a winery up in Russian River area which we will check out on our next adventure. read more

I've been a wine club member at Armida for years! Actually got up to Healdsburg once and visited the tasting room there. Their wines are awesome!!! Especially the Maple Zin - so good. Like any winery, they've gone through the wines and don't have some anymore... where's the Surf Zin?! The tasting room in Capitola has a great location. A bit difficult to get to when just picking up wine; so you need to make an effort. Summer is the worst with all the tourists but not impossible. The staff are really nice and knowledgeable and if you're lucky Bruce might be there. The wines themselves are very good and at a good reasonable price. Enjoy winos!! read more

The environment was very warm and welcoming, as well as deceiving. My date and I came to Armida believing we would enjoy our visit however, it was the very opposite. I will admit, that both my date and I are young adults, and believe that based upon our appearance we were neglected. This was also not our first rodeo in wine tasting. We were served various delicious wines, however throughout our experience we received little to no acknowledgement throughout the tasting and were even given lesser portions regarding our other older fellow wine tasters. Came here midday on a wednesday with my sister and had a great wine tasting experience. Such a quaint and friendly wine bar with a decent selection of whites,reds, and red blends. Brittany was very friendly and knowledgeable and the owner was super friendly and informative as well. The only thing I would suggest to make this place better is a small seating area maybe in the patio or by the bar. read more

I love Armida Wine. LOVE it. What I don't love is the man behind the counter pouring the wine. My husband and I love PoiZin. It's $80 a bottle so when we buy it's for a special occasion. We ran out over summer so I took a ladies vacation in August to Capitola and made a pit-stop at the tasting room to pick up two more bottles. First off- I am 30 years old. Second- I look young for my age. Not 18 but definitely not 30. I get carded everywhere I go. I expect it. It's not unusual. So when I got carded at the winery I was happy to hand over my drivers license. What I did not appreciate was the jerk behind the counter staring at my license and rudely asking me to recite my birthday for him while he held the card. He literally did not think it was me. I was so taken aback I didn't even know what to say. He told me I look young so he needed to "make sure I was over 21". I am buying TWO $80 bottles of WINE!! If I was at the quickie mart buying a bottle of Boone's for a $1.50 I would question my ID. But honestly the way the entire interaction happened left me with such a bad taste. The other person working came over and was so nice. He was an older man. He told me about being part of the wine club and being able to save money on all of the wine for the year. Sure I say and decide that I enjoy the wine enough to let go of the fact that the other man is so rude. Let's jump forward 5 months to this past weekend. As part of the wine club I was a few months late picking up my November bottles. My husband and I were in town for the weekend and stopped in to pick up my order. Wild guess who was working behind the counter. The same guy from summer! I thought to myself, maybe his behavior was just a one time thing? Maybe he really isn't a jerk. WRONG. I got the same condescending attitude. I said I was picking up my order from the wine club. He said if I want to taste he needs to see my ID. I don't want to taste and he says- "well, I still need to see your ID. You look young." Ugh...same bad attitude. Same negativity! I will not be part of this wine club again. And I think I'll be making a trip to Healdsburg to pick up my next 2 bottles. read more

While the wines were enjoyable and the atmosphere the best you can get during COVID-19, I had a distasteful first impression. I wanted to treat my mother to a wine tasting on a gorgeous summer day. We, two darker skinned Asian women, had a 4pm reservation. When we walked up to the front door, there was no sign about how many people were allowed inside or any general sign for how to conduct ourselves as customers. I entered the winery to at least signal to the employees I am here. However, as soon as I crossed the threshold, the server rudely and aggressively yelled, "We're closed! You can't come in here. Wait outside." Later on, other potential (white) costumers did the same thing as us, but were not addressed the way we were addressed. We respectfully waited outside until the server could help us; she hastily informed us that she could not take anymore customers today (fair, considering how small the outdoor area is). As I previously mentioned, I had a reservation at 4pm and calmly told her "Of course, but I have a reservation at 4pm under [my name]." Obviously she found our reservation and immediately changed her tone to something much more polite and reflective of customer service. Again, she did not treat other patrons in this manner. The rest of our experience was great, but my mother and I were bothered by our initial racist encounter. POC: beware. read more

I love Armida Winery! I am a local resident of Capitola and have been a wine club member for a few years now. I lean heavily on reading reviews and I felt it worthy to write one about Armida. The wine is incredible. I am not a fan of Sauv Blanc but I love theirs! Apparently it got 92 or more points for 2014 vintage...so we bought a case. Of course Pinot Noir is our favorite and is one that they're known for, along with their zinfandels. I've come to know the staff very well, and they've always been very fun, knowledgeable and down to earth, making each visit enjoyable & well worth my time. Just thought I'd share. :-) read more

My wife and I had a great time wine tasting here on Saturday. Vibes were chill. Wine was delicious. Andrea and George were very friendly and open to educating my wife and me on the intricacies of each varietal. Andrea was very knowledgeable about the origins of each wine, how ecology and soil affect each varietal, and how to capture the most minute characteristics of each wine. Quaint wine tasting room in Capitola Village. There are a lot of friendly people, and be assured you will walk out tipsy and becoming a member. The wines are okay. I liked the chardonnay. The bottle designs are not really my taste. Sadly, the labels seem inspired by Ed Hardy. But if you avoid that eye sore, you can really have an enjoyable time with the friendly atmosphere and quaint river view out the doorway. read more

This place was great! Knowledgeable and friendly Manager (maybe?) who was accommodating to both the the beginners (us) and the wine aficionados (other people seemed to be joining the wine club). We really had no clue what we were doing but the man pouring brought down the intimidation factor for us. We liked the white Sav Blanc & Poizin, but they all seemed pretty good. The best thing is the location at the beach and upbeat vibe (w/ locals, wine people and everyone was friendly to the novices : D We had approachable and really fun tasting room experience- so we were happy! Arrived in a great mood, anxious to try their wines. Encountered two people. The wine pourer, who was one of the most rudest people I have ever met. Didn't get his name, but he was in his thirties, American, and working on a Thursday afternoon. He didn't engage with me during the tasting. If he is in the wine business, and customer service, he is not doing his job. Not friendly, not happy. Didn't talk about the wine characteristics, maybe he didn't know. The other person was a woman who sells the wine charms. She was rude as well, I think she was there to get drunk, after observing her! Their wines might have been good, but the experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I did decide to take the high road, and buy a bottle of Maple Zin. I believe the wine pourer was either having a really bad day, and was tired of tourists, not caring about return business. I personally, will never return. Oh, I paid around $40 for the bottle of wine, and later found out I could buy it elsewhere for $14! read more

My bf and I decided to do a random trip to the beach all of a sudden and I have a knack to just spot wine tastings from miles away. First place we ran into was Armida and this place had a cute promising tasting room. It was a bit crowded so it showed great promise of being a crowd pleaser. However, my taste buds told me differently. We chose the reserve tasting which cost $10 I believe and the Chardonnay was ok and the Zin was ok but nothing really wowed me. I thought the Pinot Noir was too sweet for my liking. What perplexed me is they had all these bottles of "poizon" wine that everyone seems to know about but for those that don't it's hard to see all that hype and weird thing was it wasn't even given by the glass or in a tasting so you know what the hype was about. I really don't know why people like this place so much...maybe they've never been to really great wineries in Napa or Sonoma.... read more

Very friendly staff with a good knowledge of Sonoma wines. Inexpensive based in terms of value and quality of Armida's wines. $10 tasting, but free if you buy a bottle worth $25. Russian River Pinot is very good. Decent case deals going on as well. All in all, this place has a good grasp on the value of their offerings but cater to getting a lot for your money. This is a wine tasting room in Capitola, California that represents the Healdsburg vinyard in northern California and is an ideal venue for tasting some of the best wines we've ever had. We are local to the community so we frequent the place regularly. When we have guests we have brought or recommended the place very highly. We are especially fond of the 2012 and 2013 Tina's Block Zinfandel. The Reserve Poizin is top shelf and for fun if you buy one in the miniature coffin it will make a great conversation piece. Christopher, the manager is amazingly knowledgeable and will happily share details of the varietals. As it is intensely popular in the summer, especially on Friday and Saturday afternoons I recommend catching the place in the middle of the week. If it is crowded, don't be shy and work you way to the counter, it will be well worth it. read more

I am a member at this winery, but I am going to cancel my membership soon. The wine is pretty good, and the location is beautiful. However, I don't feel welcomed by the manager. I've been a member for over a year and he still treats me like a stranger. When I go to a winery, where I pay hundreds a year, I want to welcomed and at home. Don't get me wrong all the other staff are friendly. But the last two times I went in while the manager was working, and I wasn't with my husband, he was completely rude. Most recently, I came in with a friend and was on our first tasting when I got a severe migraine and had to leave. I came back when I felt better and told him why I left in a hurry. He didn't show any sympathy. I then went to the other sommelier and told him what had happened. He immediately gave my guest and I new glasses and asked what pour we were on. Then I notice the manager putting the closed signs up. Mind you it was about 15 minutes till closing time on a busy Saturday. He then comes up to the sommelier helping us and tells him to not pour anymore for us. At this point I was so embarrassed. We were going to purchase a bottle, but left after giving the polite sommelier a $10 tip. In short, if you visit this tasting room look for a friendly face to pour your wine. read more
