Flipped a coin, stopped by the Armstrong - Anaheim Hills (across from a neighborhood coffee shop) to get something to plant in my garden. Today, a class hosted by Armstrong (see schedule) offers ways to enjoy gardening. I was in an adventure looking for MORE native milkweed, but unfortunately today, they had just run out. A lady before me had purchased the last stock so must be a hot item during the summer!! However, I was told this site gets weekly delivery on Wednesdays so come back again. Luckily, a very kind gentleman went above and beyond by offering to call another branch (La Habra) to check availability for me. I really appreciated the helpful and thoughtful service--it's not something you experience everywhere these days....confirmed there's three types of milkweeds in stock! I did a quick search for other plants to support this location-- and found some hot pink flowers to add to my backyard!!!! read more

This is my local Armstrong Garden center and it is also my favorite. Their plants are consistently healthy and of utmost quality. The lay out is inviting and peaceful. Walking thru just inspires you to go grow something . This is my primary source of starters for both my spring and fall gardens. Recently I was in search of a particular cherry tomato variety, so I gave them a call, and lucky me, they had ONE left in stock. They were kind enough to put it on hold for me and I'm now anxiously anticipating my first tomatoes of the season! On a side note, they also regularly offer various classes, so as a company, they really do strive to help anyone learn different aspects of gardening. read more

Unless it is the manager Bob, or a shinning star like Emily,...customer service is just ok, and I have run into this a number of times. Don't just point in the general direction of where I need to go...where I wonder off lost, but take the time (especially when not busy) to show me and if you don't have it, call another store to check inventory....again, not busy. Wanted some Chinese New Year plants for my girlfriend. Armstrong has been good in the past and is near my house. Purchased a money tree, lucky bamboo, and chrysanthemums. Oops, apparently chrysanthemums are funeral flowers and not good luck. I was suckered by the gold blossoms, red foil covering for the pot, and red envelope . Not to mention that they were on the same display as the rest of the Chinese new year plants. Not being Chinese i didn't realize that chrysanthemums are not a traditional celebration plant. Notwithstanding the unintentional purchase of funeral flowers, the plants are healthy and look nice. I'll return to Armstrong's the next time I need plants. read more

I really want to like this place. I like plants, having been turned on to botany, as it was my science elective in college. What I like about this Armstrong Garden Center is its compact nature. You don't have to walk far to tour their entire collection of available plants. Also, they have some items that most places don't carry, like Marathon & Marathon II seeds to fill in any bare spots in your Marathon-sodded lawn. Here's what I don't like: 1. The staff. Over the decade & a half I've been visiting this place, of all the folks I've interacted with here, there have only been two that have been anything better than dismissive. Most have been downright hostile, too busy to actually help a paying customer. Too busy to answer questions, or make recommendations, or offer any sort of advice related to plants or gardening. This has remained consistent for the over 15 years I've been patronizing this establishment. I chalk it up to the low pay people at nurseries make. My advice to them is to "get over it." If you didn't know you were going into a low-paying field when you took all those botany or agricultural classes at college, then you have significant issues with cognition. 2. The meager selection. Your average big-box store has a wider variety of plants than this "garden center." 3. The prices. They are anywhere from 15% to 50% higher than your average big-box store. If I were getting great service or advice from the staff, I would have zero issue paying the higher prices, but given the worse than average service and staff attitude, the prices are just adding injury to insult. Armstrong Garden Centers have a "guaranteed to grow" guarantee, which is a good thing, because some of their plants don't like to be removed from the garden center, and will give up the ghost nearly as soon they pass the threshold from the garden center to the real world. I'm not sure if all Armstrong Garden Centers have the same issue with staff, but I know these issues are not limited to just this location. I've been to other Armstrong Garden centers and have had similarly bad attitudes from other locations. These attitudes aren't necessarily consistent from center to center. At one location, the people may be too busy to help. At another, the people dismissive. Still others will have staff that are just so knowledgeable about gardening and plants that they will not share the benefits of their exalted knowledge with mere customers. They are just *that* good. TOO good. So, I like plants. This place specializes in plants, and so I'd like to like them as well. Sadly, I have yet to hit "pay dirt" in the staff attitude department, with rare exception. So, if you need a plant, go ahead and shop here. Just don't expect to be treated well, warmly, or with a modicum of respect. Keep your expectations low, and you'll likely have a more pleasant experience. That's been MY experience. read more

I always find the best prices on the 16" Terracotta Wide Rimmed pots at any of the local Armstrong Garden Center. The Armstrong prices for these type of plant pots are about $6.00 less than Big Lots, Home Depot or other locations I've visited. The Painted Home Decor pots are on the expensive side, most of them are around $120.00 to $800.00 or more But if all you need are temporary pots to germinate succulents or for plant regrowth then the Terracotta ones are a great value. read more

Stopped in today to checkout this location. Usually I go to the one in La Habra. This one did not disappoint. I had to do a weird u-turn to get into the lot, but traffic wasn't bad so it really wasn't a big deal. There was plenty of parking, which I loved. When first walking in, I kinda felt like this location was actually a little larger than the one I usually go to... but it could have just been the layout. I was very happy with their selection and ended up buying some pots that I haven't seen before. Their staff were super attentive, and helped with suggestions. I visited TWICE and had two very DIFFERENT experiences. I LOVE HOW AGC has such a wide variety of trendy plants that are affordable . My first experience was AMAZING. Three different workers were very accessible and knowledgeable. One even untangled my string of hearts that I purchased.I also bought another plant ($80) with some FUNGUS GNATS. The cashier and I noticed them as I was paying but she assured me it was mild and an easy fix. The gnats were worst than I thought so I decided to return the plant. I had the receipt, original planter, and within the 90 day purchase guarantee. My RETURN experience was not good. Two men at the counter stared at me with confused looks when I explained my situation. I had to ask if the worked there because they looked so lost. After I gathered new plants for the exchange, one of the men called the manager. I was in the store for 45 mins and was surprised that I had to retell my story to the manager. I would have thought the man would have given the information to her. She seemed suspicious of me and annoyed. There was also a sale on ALL succulents (20%) off which she did NOT honor because she said it was only for succulents 6inches or larger. I will never return to this store but will give the Long Beach location a chance. read more

I called and was told that they have no guarantee whatsoever, except on trees and shrubs. They were all planted in their new bagged soil, and properly watered daily. I had the greatest experience today at Armstrong. I have a beloved pachira aquatica of mine that has been suffering lately and losing lots of leaves. I've tried research and contacted online professionals and nothing seems to help. Today I went in to Armstrong to purchase some things to help me, and got the idea to ask one of their team members for help. Boy did I win the lottery! I was served by the incredibly kind, knowledgeable and patient Heidi. She cares. What a rare thing to find these days! She answered all my questions, which created some more questions (that she answered) which lead to a full on education of important plant care like fertilizer and how to read the three numbers. I got SO much from my visit today and feel confident that I know better how to take care of my tree. I have some actionable items to take to make my tree better. And it is ALL thanks to Heidi! Dear Supervisors of Armstrong: Know that you have a customer service super star on hand. You best take care of that one, as she takes care of your customers. I love working with Armstrong Garden Center in Yorba Linda. They're always very kind and helpful in answering all my questions. I just completed a large project in my backyard, planting 27 roses, with more additions to come soon. I worked with Pat Duffy and he was incredibly knowledgeable and insightful, helping me choose roses and color patterns to create my beautiful cutting garden. I had A LOT of questions regarding additional plants I'd like to add to my yard. Factors include: they must be nontoxic to dogs, do well in my planting zone, be able to handle intense winds, handle full sun, etc., etc. (the list goes on ...). This can become overwhelming quickly. Even though I did a lot of research on every plant I wanted to install in my yard, Duffy was very insightful at quickly picking up on the style of yard/garden I like. And he helped me create a plan/layout that fits my personality. He listened to my "likes" and "dislikes", and provided insight as to whether or not those plants would do well in my yard. His consulting made my choices easier, and his suggestions opened my eyes to ideas I hadn't yet considered. I love the collaborative space Duffy created with me. Prices are good and the staff is very helpful. I had many questions regarding the vegetable garden I was starting. Brian, or Brien (he may be the owner), was extremely helpful answering my questions. After my purchase, I was at my car trying to load a large, heavy bag of soil. He was in the parking lot checking on carts when he noticed me struggling (I have a spinal injury). We had them design our back yard to a tune of $4.5K. Our garden looks ok but I would say it is hardly that amount. And it's ok as we fell for it. But we expected some customer service at least for the amount we spent. The plants they planted were dying, the tree stump that supposedly killed is sprouting new branches and weeds started to grow. We desperately tried calling and calling requesting for someone to come back and check but nobody called back and nobody came. Oh, also, the design was a hardly a design as it was sketched on a grid paper like a kindergartener's project. The design was for $300. Cost will be waived if we bought the plants as well had them installed. What a scam!!! read more

I had my entire front yard completely re-done by Armstrong in Anaheim. After they installed a drip system and planted all the plants, within a week 4 plants died. It took them 2 weeks to get back out here and replace them. When they came to replace them, they saw that 6 more had died and now we have weeds coming up all over. We didn't have any weeds before Armstrong was here. Also, they didn't put any kind of plastic weed barrier down and I've been told that's standard practice. Well not for them. I was very disappointed in the whole endeavor. It cost a lot and I'm still not happy. I asked for a pink Crepe Myrtle tree and got a purple one. It's pretty but not what I asked for. Looking for beets and other veggies I can grow to make fresh juice! After purchasing my new Breville juicer, I'm all into buying fresh organic veggies and fruits to juice up every morning! But that can get pricy so I've decided to grow on my own as much as possible...*crossing fingers it won't die on me!!" So I came here looking for some organic seeds to grow my own beets, lettuce, collard greens and parsley. Since winter is approaching, I wanted veggies that grows in cooler climates. Found these organic seeds ranging from $1.99 to $2.40. Non organic seed prices were similar so I just got the organic. BTW, the seed packets all indicate if it grows in warmer or cooler climates...how cool is that? (ok, well I thought that was cool for beginning gardener like myself :P) It's been a LONG time since I've stepped foot in an Armstrong garden center. I do most of my garden shopping at the Home Depot. However, the garden staff there aren't very knowledgeable and I came across a lot of highschool/college like students who have no idea what "germinating" seeds meant. FAIL! This location is HUGE where you can pretty much find anything and everything that pertains to gardening. I just loved the huge selection of fertilizers to soils to plants to flowers to etc....but I only had 30 minutes to spare so didn't spend too much time browsing. The guy at the cash register was very friendly and helpful. I asked him random questions about how to grow my veggies and he pretty much gave me enough info that I needed. I also signed up for their free membership where you get $25 off every $625 you spend. Yikes! If I had a 10,000 sq ft yard that'd be NO problem! lol Ok one day I'll have a garden that size. We bought a needlepine milkweed to supplement out other types of milkweed. All 10 caterpillars on the plant died, not on any other milkweed plant we own. There is definitely pesticide spray on the plant. Husband informed the manager (Nicole Medici) and she outright refused to accept the possibility. She will not address the issue and therefore is choosing to continue to sell tainted plants and thereby kill Monarch caterpillars. Also previous to this Incident, just a few weeks ago, we tried to order for curbside pickup for my elderly parents and one associate was very uneducated about their own plants. Additionally, that same staff gave us a lot of attitude for our HIGH risk 80-year-old parent with health conditions wanting curbside pickup. She acted as if it was an inconvenience for her. Me and my family were shopping for a Christmas tree and this Armstrong was recommended to us by a friend. I am overjoyed by our experience here from start to finish. Everyone on the staff had a great attitude, smiled, and genuinely wanted to help us. They were informative, polite, and even helped secure the tree to our vehicle! So let me start out that this was for an online order that was to be picked up at the Anaheim Hills location. Ordered a climbing plant that only Armstrong had. Was told the plants arrived via email and ready for pick up. I went to the location and I left without the plants as there was confusion with the order. I requested a refund and the Assistant Mgr Steven quickly refunded my online purchase. He felt so bad for me that the plants I ordered were delivered for no charge/no cost. Came here today after driving by so many times but not having the time to stop. There is a large assortment of succulents, flowers, vegetables, fruit trees, and ornamental plants as well as trellises, pots, potting soil, patio furniture, and fountains. I just potted about a dozen succulents recently so I did not purchase any today however my friend found an aloe plant that she really liked and decided to purchase. When she got her plant she signed up for their garden center club and told me I should sign up as well. When I asked the cashier if I could sign up she said no because I had to make a purchase to sign up. Thought that was peculiar because many businesses encourage people to sign up even if they do not make a purchase that day in the hopes that sales and events will make them more likely to return. I might return if I wanted to plant something specific that I could not find elsewhere but I found the customer service to be superior at Orchard and Home Depot on my recent visits where I was thanked for my patronage and asked whether I needed assistance, given information about care for plants, and also was sheltered by the shades the other stores put over their garden centers to help shield customers from the afternoon sun which today melted my friend and melted me while we perused their plants. read more

EXPENSIVE but WORTH IT! This review is for their Christmas Trees! They are more expensive than Christmas Trees for Less next door, Home Depot and Lowes, but they have better quality. Not a lot of selection, but what they have are good quality from the way they look and feel. Other places have a lot of dry spots and feels dry and will not last. We got a 6ft Fraser Fir for $89 with a tree stand included. If you don't need it just keep it and bring it back next year to get $10 off. Customer service was great. We were approached by staff and they were cool.They packed our tree in plastic and placed and and tied it on top of our car. We are very happy with our tree. It smells so fresh and amazing!!! My husband and I recently had the pleasure of working with talented landscape designer, Jeffery Miele, on a major project to redesign our front and back yards. His expertise was apparent as Jeffery helped us reach our goals to transition to more drought-tolerant plants while adding some bright colors to our landscaping. We loved his designs, and we met him onsite at the Anaheim Hills Armstrong to pick and choose our actual plants. At the location, we were pleased to meet Bob, Jason, and Brian who continued to impress us with their willingness to help and their dedication to keep our project moving in a timely fashion. We were touched that they each went above and beyond to rush order many of our plants to coordinate a smooth pick up by our installer. While all of the employees at Anaheim were a true pleasure to work with, Bob really helped us to ensure everything was perfect, down to the last detail. Bob helped us pivot and choose various plants in the instance that one was not available while still maintaining Jeffery's vision. Armstrong has a great plant selection, but more importantly...they have great employees like Dipalee. I was having issues with my some of my plants and she diagnosed what was wrong (I brought in samples) and told me what I needed to buy in order to take care of the problem. Dipalee is an asset to Armstrong because she is so knowledgeable about plants. While I was talking to her, someone else came up to here and asked what was wrong with her sample plant. Diapalee knew immediately what the problem was and instructed another employee to get a certain product to help the other customer. read more
