This is my store of choice for all my pro-beauty needs. Everyone who works here is helpful and professional! I am always greeted with a friendly "HELLO!" when I come in - no matter how busy they are. I have seen some fun educational events here and Tawny, the manager, is always front and center with new product knowledge I can bring back to my salon! It's always SUPER clean and STOCKED! I have never had a backorder or something that I needed out of stock! ( Hugely helpful!) This is a comprehensive store for different personal care products. I've been there for hair products. Many high-quality brands are available, in large sizes. This is where you go to find the high-quality brands that the run-of-the-mill stores don't carry. The color section provides a good selection of companies and colors as well. Again, these are high-quality companies not to be found at a general store. Sometimes you can walk in and find discount products--so you never know if it's something you need or possibly realize you want or would like to try. The entrance isn't obvious, and the location is in a business park, so if you go, look for the building with the images of women around it. read more

Armstrong McCall North Austin - Customer appreciation - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Austin, Texas

It seems a little over-the-top to write a detailed review and recount of every interaction I have had with my local beauty supply store. There aren't too many choices in Austin, and you make do with what you have. So I will stick to the necessities and compare this establishment with some others I have frequented around town. First, to compare Armstrong with other license only supply chains, the only real difference is which brands they carry. Yes, I do most often have to make a trip to Armstrong and RDA on my product runs. I think that is just part of being a stylist. You have your favorites, and so do they. In my experience, Armstrong has more locations convenient to me and more education opportunities. Although I sometimes prefer the brands offered at, lets say RDA, Armstrong is much closer to the one-stop-shop when I am pressed for time. Now lets compare the North Austin Armstrong with their other locations. The North Austin location was the first I was introduced to, being the closest to my cosmetology institution. I have to say, I was much more impressed months later when I began to frequent the south lamar Armstrong because of a wider variety of in-stock items and faster customer service. When I moved back up north and began to buy from the anderson square location again, I was disappointed with the slow and often rude service I received here. After a few weeks of continuing to buy from them, I had almost given up. All of that has changed in the past few months, however. Service has improved greatly, the staff is more knowledgeable and considerate than ever before, and I have recognized how hard they are working to keep in stock with all the latest items. So this is why I come to write to you today. To say that I too, like the reviewer before me, was disgruntled with this location. I have since begun to appreciate and admire their continued effort toward customer service and believe that they deserve and acknowledgement for this effort. Thank you. read more

Everyone was really helpful, asked if I needed help while I was looking and even tho they were having computer problems, they still got me out of there quickly. After 6 months of taking off I went to A.MC to purchase a couple items, i purchased a forehead thermometer 64.00 I was concerned as I said to the cashier, i should have checked product to see if it works. She said it does" & they do not do any returns. Well I have been trying to get this forehead thermometer to work & it gives a different temp each time I tried it on myself. I know how much I have spent at this store, & if I am going to have an issue returning this, I will have to purchase my Goldwell color from an out of town store. Sad over 30 years purchasing products from Armstrong McCall The days when the previous owner A J would be in the store, & treat you so well & if you had an issue he fixed it. Where has the staff gone, it's also sad" I have heard from others, it is just not the same at this store anymore. Woman cashier telling me after I purchased items" NO RETURNS" I was the only stylist in the store, years ago on a Thursday you could not move, as it was so busy. Lady with pink hair very very rude.. Gave me attitude the last two times I went in. I'll take by business to oak knoll location or south Lamar even though this location is a mile from my house. So I don't have to treated like crap when I go In. Made me feel like an inconvenience to their day. If your not happy quit, stop making everyone's day miserable. Super disappointed. Brought my cousin here who was from out of town to pick things out and do each other's hair and the first thing I noticed were the two girls with their phones in their faces. we walked around, obviously searching for something and they never noticed. A man from the back came out and asked if we needed anything and we told him we were looking for rods, he walked us to them and left. We immediately booked it out of there (no goodbyes, guess something REALLY interesting was on their screens!) and went to Sally's 4 minutes up the road. They immediately assisted us and even talked us into buying a little extra. Maybe you guys should hire people who.....I don't know....can at least PRETEND they like their jobs or have some form of structure? read more

Rude! Rude! Rude! I dread having to come here because the people at this location are so rude. I understand that everyone has their bad days, but good lawwwwd!! First time going here- A new student, excited to be in a smorgasbord of hair products that are off-limits to the public, I came with my former-stylist mother. We loaded up on hair and nail products to be met with an eye roll and a "You need a license to buy these," as the dumpy cashier crossed her arms and looked at us. I then told her "I have a permit...I thought I could buy them with a permit...." and she just started ringing stuff up. She took my information, supposedly, and chunked the stuff we bought in a bag that we brought. Wow. What a p.o.s human. Well, everyone has their bad days, right? Of course! And to be honest, they have lots and lots of useful things for cheap. I thought I'd wait a bit before returning. Surely they won't be awful the very next time, right? Second time- I decided to pick up some Special Blonde for a friend at school. As I'm there, I can see it right behind someone who's stocking boxes. I didn't want to line-backer my way through her and her inventory, so I guess I might have hovered while trying to figure out a way to get the color and not disturb her. I was trying to NOT be rude. She wasn't. "Can I help you?" I was relieved when she asked because usually, at this point, people are prepared to be helpful when they ask if they can help. I replied "Yeah, I'm just trying to find the 12/0 for Special Blonde," she let out a little huff, like a cartoon bull, right before it charges "WHAAAAATT!!!!?????" I'm sure I took a step back, because man, she was scary. I gathered my thoughts and tried again "Special Blonde...it's by Koleston...." she seemed to be angry and confused, perhaps one was fueled by another one, but to this day I'm unsure. I continued "Wella makes Koleston....." I honestly at this point just started throwing my small amount of product knowledge to her, hoping to spark something. I could see it right behind her, I just needed to get to the 12/0. "I don't even know what you're talking about!!" she cackled at me. So I let her have it, good and hard.... "It's right behind you, lady," she slowly turned, I thought at this point that surely she'd apologize, or laugh, or silence the demons that were undulating around her, but no. She just put on her glasses, let out a few more huffs and said "This is Koleston," I told her that I knew, and that I'd like the 12/0, she didn't hand it over quite yet though. She then said "It's called SPECIAAAAAL BLOOOONNNDE," awesome, you can read, which is great, because you suck at customer service. That was the quiet part I kept inside. I once again walked to my car wondering what had just happened to me. I vowed to never go back there. Unfortunately, Armstrong hair show came to town. I really wanted to go. Crap. Third time- So, I'll make this visit short. They tried to sell me a $65 ticket for $85 dollars. When I tried to tell them that it wasn't the advertised price on the flier, they argued with me. Like legit got all shitty and argued with me. When I told them that I'd pay it anyway, surprise, they didn't have any tickets. After talking to a few of the hair industry elders that I know, I was advised to call corporate. A day or so later I got a call from a woman who, guess, just guess...was beyond rude. She tried to tell me that they didn't know any better, but they had been with her for years. If they had been with her for years, why didn't they know that the advertised price on the flier is what you pay after all these years? I brought up how rude her employees always were to me, and how if you don't know something, that's cool, but don't treat me like a second class citizen just because you feel like it. I was about to get off of the phone with her, when she offered to give me a discounted ticket because an "actual stylist was unable to attend," Wow. Thanks. So, from the bottom of her heart she gave me a ticket for $45 instead of $65 because someone else, more important, couldn't go. Here's the kicker: I go to meet the owner at the store to pick the ticket up...It was the SAME LADY who was all crappy about the hair color. I don't think things are looking up anytime soon. Unfortunately, she runs a few of the stores in Austin. I've thought about this a whole lot, because they do have some really great deals, and I've talked to a lot of people, and most of those people have had similar experiences. An instructor I used to have told me that they're kind of notorious for treating students poorly. The way I see it, RDA is right up the street and they are ALWAYS nice!! read more

My mother and I went to this location this week to pick up a few essentials (Moroccanoil, Olaplex, etc.) and we were immediately greeted by the North Austin team. We asked for suggestions on product recommendations and every sales associate working was very friendly and attentive, happy to help us with any questions. Tawny, the store manager, went out of her way to explain the difference between two product lines and made recommendations based on her own genuine experiences. She was very knowledgeable and we left feeling confident in our purchases and excited to try out our products! The store was well organized and clean and we were able to find everything we needed, and then some! The prices were also easy to locate under the plastic shelf cover strip and very reasonable. We will be back to visit Tawny and the other wonderful ladies at this location soon! Do not hesitate to visit this Armstrong McCall location in particular! read more

I have been a client of this location for the last 23 yrs. Since the new owners took over I have received the worst customer service. It is no fault of the staff's that policy's get changed all the time. When you have a business that's mission statement is based on the best customer service possible, this type of service is unacceptable!!!! The store is quiet any time the employees aren't talking and laughing obnoxiously loud. They don't seem to know it's quiet even when they talk about their customers that are still in the same very small store. "Is she ever going to check out?" "Haha I don't know. Watch her not even have a beauty license." "Haha well she grabbed some color so we'll see." I guess taking 20 minutes to shop is too long for these girls. My recommendations? Some music throughout the store and customer service that is a bit more professional. Oh and barely any of the products had price labels below them. What's up with that? read more
