The spa was smaller than I thought it would be. It was nice but I guess I was expecting more for what you pay for. it had a steam shower but I was hoping for a whirlpool/hot tub. Brought my friend here for a girls spa day but was disappointed. While the massage itself was fine, the facilities were not up to par. The pool was closed due to some renovations so even though we came early to relax by the pool, we couldn't and this was NOT communicated to us ahead of time. There is no wet steam room or a dry sauna, only one steam shower that takes forever to heat up (you have to start it when you get there, it's not like a steam room that's always on). Also no whirlpool or hot tub. For a $250 massage with 20% gratuity, I don't think it's worth it because you can go to a nicer hotel spa that actually has facilities to enjoy. read more

Ahhhhhh! AWAY Spahhhhh! From the moment I entered Patricia was welcoming. The spa is a relaxing little haven with plenty of the expected amenities such as locker room, multiple lounges, and aromatherapy. My therapist Nicole had an extremely therapeutic touch. Some people radiate nurturing and healing with their hands. Nicole is one of them! My body scrub and massage with added on dry brushing and cold stone facial treatments were all sensory treasures. If you come here at a particular time of year you will enjoy the serenity of the waterfall feature of the open pool all by yourself. This was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish to celebrate my birthday. To start, it's super convenient that there is validated valet for your car. When you first walk into the spa, it smells amazing and they are very welcoming and friendly. You also can't beat the complimentary Prosecco/Mimosas. I decided to have a de-stress massage and add on a cold stone facial. Wow, how have I been missing out on this? Nicole was fantastic. I was so relaxed I nearly forgot where I was. With the spa, you also have access to the gym and pool. I spent a couple hours by the pool afterwards which was beautiful and well kept. The Away Spa was a great experience from booking to the day of. We were having such a difficult time finding a place that could service 8 people at the same time and they made it happen. All that got massages were incredibly happy as was I with my manicure and pedicure. They were also sweet in giving me a little parting gift for my birthday with a lovely handwritten birthday card. Oh and the 3 hour complimentary valet was very handy and convenient. Would have easily bumped by rating to five stars if they'd had more than one manicurist. It was kinda lonely doing that on my own, but again they hit it out of the ballpark with being able to accommodate eight individuals with a variety of services. read more

The hotel I was staying at the week of my wedding unfortunately did not have a spa. We took the short trip down to the W after booking four appointments for manicures and pedicures. The waiting area is nice and they have infused fruit water and some small snacks set out to enjoy while you wait. I recommend bringing your own nail polish if you have your heart set on a certain color. Their polish selection is very small. They had OPI nail polish, Kendra Scott, and other one. The nail techs were professional and very nice. They allowed us to choose the music we wanted on their Alexa. They worked well with my three year old niece and accommodated her "lots of sparkle" glitter request. I asked for a small gold band on my ring finger with a rhinestone and they said they were unable to do that. Kind of disappointing considering it was a simple non-elaborate request. One nice thing about the Spa is that if you are a guest of the Spa you get access to the W Hotel's pool. The pool is not kid friendly. I went at noon and it was a full blown party. They need a better system here. I stepped out just to look at the pool after my appointment and a security guard grabbed my forcefully by the arm and demanded to know what I was doing there. When I explained to him that I had every right to be there he got flustered and tried pushing me in the direction of where to get my wristband. I wasn't happy and decided to leave. I'm not sure why it appeared I did not belong there. I recommend the Spa, I'm not sure I would stay at the hotel if this is how they treat their guests. --note: I did not assume I could go to the pool without being told. The Spa told me it was open to me and sent me in that direction. I'm cool with there being security, I am not okay with being grabbed. read more

We've booked maybe 3-4 spa days at Away Spa over the years to celebrate special occasions, and it's always a great experience. Our most recent visit (May 2023) was particularly awesome. The service providers (Sally, Mo, Wendy, Davina, Tami) were all highly skilled and very friendly. I also appreciated the helpfulness of the front desk staff. Wow, what an amazing experience! I do a lot of spa days and massage trips but this one was for the books! The massage itself felt like it took a long time for 60 minutes and it was not rushed. My trouble spots are gone gone which is rare thus why I have to get massages all the time. This is a first! The pool area is cool to hang out beforehand and the steam room is perfect for after. The cleanliness, sanitization, and anti-bacterial processes are clearly on-going yet unobtrusive to me as a spa guest. I would love to give this spa a positive review, the atmosphere was very relaxing and the masseuses were friendly and professional. The experience was unfortunately turned sour when a friend of mine left her jewelry in the pockets of the massage robe. She noticed the jewelry was missing later that day and called to see if they were found. She checked for updates the following day on 3 different occasions and was continuously met with the same nonspecific answer, that the jewelry was not found. No details were given and it was clear there was a lack of effort in the search for them. We then decided to go to the spa to see if there were any updates. The way the workers at the front desk handled the situation was extremely unprofessional. We were met with hostility straight away by a worker with pink/red hair when simply asking for help to find these expensive pieces of jewelry. The front desk lady was practically screaming and refused to give us her name. She then proceeded to call security on our group of friends. She claimed she felt threatened, when only one person was speaking to her while the rest of us waited outside of the spa. A lot of money was spent at this spa and the W hotel, so to be treated so rudely was extremely disappointing. The jewelry was found after having to ask multiple times and having to practically beg them to take the time to really search for it. Wouldn't recommend this spa due to the quality of customer service. read more

Last Saturday, I had my first Saturday off in MONTHS and gosh darn it, I was going to treat myself. And treat myself I certainly did. Away Spa was just what I needed. I called on Friday to schedule my appointment and though I'd love to remember her name to give her props, I'm at a loss. She was fabulously patient and she had a wonderful phone manner. This was my first time booking at Away, so she was my first impression and she did a great job. I was booked for a 75 minute massage. Though parking is validated, I walked and unfortunately was running a few minutes behind, so I didn't get much time to enjoy the gorgeous "locker room"/changing room area. It was equipped with a steam room and showers, a locker area for your purse and clothing, and a sitting area with light snacks and refreshments. The lighting was perfect and the decor really helped with the relaxation process. If it weren't for the snotty girl and her friend who were too important in their frivolous conversation to move out of my way in order for me to access the locker area, I would have been just fine. But, I digress. Snotty girls at an upscale spa just comes with the territory. Inside the locker room, the greeter hands you a luxurious bathrobe to slip into and a pair of slippers to walk around in. However, they were out of slippers and I'm near certain the pair I was given weren't clean. These slippers aren't luxurious like the plushy robe. It is made out of plastic, a la jellies shoes style. I'm assuming for the purpose of keeping them clean, though my pair was not. Again, there are worse offenses. Bryan greeted me quickly and he was very polite. Male or female, there's always been a bit of awkwardness for me initially when getting a massage. The whole, we're strangers and I'm going to get next to naked and you're going to rub oil all over me in a dark room takes a few minutes to ease into, but Bryan was definitely professional and talented at what he does. He took the time to ask about any problem areas and occasionally checked in throughout the massage to ensure the pressure was okay and that I was feeling good. He took his time and I never felt rushed. There was only one time to which I was disappointed and that was when he told me time was up. I'd definitely recommend him. After the massage, Bryan offered to get me a glass of champagne or a mimosa, to which I didn't hesitate to accept. Nothing like a free mimosa to top off the experience. He walked me back to the locker room area and I breathed in my new relaxed state. I sipped on my mimosa while I bathed in their complimentary showers with their Eucalyptus shampoo and body wash. I was a brand new person and definitely grateful for the experience. Their rates are higher than others, but after my experience, I won't mind dropping what I did for experience like that. So, just FYI, they no longer offer a discount for Austin residents. This was the first question I asked when I called to book an appointment. It was a $185 massage for my 17-yo daughter, which I definitely wouldn't have booked if there wasn't a discount. But I was told, yes! there was a discount. She asked for a credit card to confirm the reservation, and then asked if I wanted the credit card charged for the massage or our unit. I told her we didn't live in the building. She said no problem and took down my credit card number. Three days later I showed up with my daughter. We got there about 10 mins early, and I wanted her to have enough time before her massage so she wouldn't have to rush, so I explained that my daughter was getting the massage and asked if she could please take her back to the locker room and then I would pay. The massage was a special treat for my daughter who has been under a considerable amount of stress (therefore the "Peace Out" massage), and I didn't want her to know how much it cost because I didn't want that to affect her experience. Instead of taking my daughter back as I asked, the front desk attendant asked if we were residents of the building. I said no, we were residents of Austin. That is when I was informed that they no longer offer a discount for Austin residents. I was obviously upset since I had already been through this when booking the appointment. She continued to charge me the full amount in front of my daughter, and I had to ask twice more for her to please take my daughter back before she finally did. As it turns out, the person who booked my massage was aware of the miscommunication and had put a note on my reservation that Daniela chose to ignore, preferring to argue with me in person rather than honoring the 15% discount. The whole experience was rather upsetting and embarrassing for my daughter, when all I was trying to do was provide her with a relaxing experience. It was really disappointing. Came here with 4 friends for the Travelzoo special. For like $100 or $110 we got a 60 minute massage. My massage was great (Sarah?), but 2 of my friends did not care for their therapist. We tacked on extra time to make our massage an 80 minute massage and then they automatically charge you a $31 gratuity. So the day ran us $160 which for a massage at a hotel wasn't bad. They also validated gratuity. 3 stars was because the couldn't accommodate 4 of us at the same time on a Monday, and we booked about a month in advance. And read on for the pool service.... We spent the day at the pool, which was ok. It was chill which we enjoyed, but the service was sos so. It was the day after ACL so maybe they were recovering from a crazy weekend, but they did not seem too attentive. Erin ruled and made my Over the Hills and Far Away Led Zeppelin inspired massage so incredibly heavenly and important feeling!! She asked at the beginning if I needed anything in particular to stop spasming or whatever. I had a cramped neck that I could feel in the back and sides of my knees when she worked it out!! I cannot say enough great things about Away Spa and its' employees after the experience I had as part of a group of 10 on Saturday morning. Accommodating a group of 10 in a spa can be a serious challenge, but the staff of Away was accommodating, kind, and fun. From the friendly women who greeted us, to the attendants that brought champagne, mimosas, and light bites, to the actual service, I don't have a single negative thing to say. My facial was AMAZING. I decided on the 75 minutes signature Away facial, and it did not disappoint. Davina changed my life in just 75 minutes. I could not stop telling everyone who didn't get a facial that they seriously missed out. I wanted to know about the different products and instruments she used on my face and she explained them and their benefits to me. She asked about my current routine and gave me pointers on how to keep my skin youthful and healthy. She answered all of my questions and left my face feeling brand new. My only regret was not opting for 90 minutes. It was worth every dollar. I booked treatments here for a Mommy-to-be getaway weekend. When i first called to schedule the appointments I got a bit of a runaround and what took almost 20 minutes of my time to be on hold, get one answer, go one hold again..repeat...repeat...oh, now I'll have to email the spa director. But don't bother giving me any information over the phone..look for it on the website. Okay - thanks! I reached out to the spa director and went through a smooth process in getting everything set up! Awesome!! Now we're all excited and looking forward to our treatments. The day of treatment...we are on our way over to the spa and about 20 minutes before our appointment, I get a call from the director informing me one of their staff has called in sick and unfortunately do not have another treatment available until 3 hours later. I completely understand when hiccups arise like this. I was disappointed, but to know with that short of notice and there were no other services available. I felt like I was just going to sit there. After expressing how disappointed I was, she informed me she would comp a drink for me at the pool bar while I waited the 75 min for everyone else to get their treatments. I should probably drink that very very slow....we hang up and continue en route. 5 minutes later, I get a call saying someone is now available to fill in and they should be able to accommodate all of us. I was very excited and glad they were able to get things sorted. I was slightly annoyed because it sounded like they were keeping me updated min by min - which is nice, but started confusing me as to if they had all their ducks in a row with exhausting every avenue before informing me. It also seemed weird that a staff member would let them know 20 min before a scheduled appointment? The whole thing was a little frustrating to deal with.
