I'm glad I came here with a German friend - you always appreciate Scotland with new eyes when you're day tripping with a visitor! We had a fantastic time - the staff were friendly and helpful, it was perfectly preserved and although they are working in a confined space and can't do much to change their utilities, their modest displays were fashioned expertly. The rooms were kept in as accurate conditions as possible and there were sound effects and displays to transport you back to the time of Burns. The cottage itself was breathtaking - a lot of money looks like it's been spent on it to keep it in the condition it's in. It's informative and simple so anyone can enjoy it. For four pounds (and £2 for children), this is fantastic value for experiencing a slice of Scottish history. Great for the Burns enthusiast but accessible for all, it's remarkable that the Burns cottage is kept pristine like this after all these years. Wonderful.

The museum wouldn't take up much of your time to explore if you were in the area with some time on your hands. As such the entry price is reasonable or free to Nation Trust members. Theres a lovely little shop opposite and a fantastic cafe too with fabulous cakes! Theres a free car parking less than 100ms away from the cottage. Theres a lovely pub about 5/10minutes walk down the road and a visitor centre thats expanding which also has a gift shop, cafe and facilities. The sites are all on one level so accessible for all.

The bed was firm, and I slept very well until people came for breakfast and were not using their indoor voices. Since I was awake I sat in the comfy chair by the window and caught up on some emails (wifi available). Breakfast was amazing, the fresh fruit salad had kiwi, banana, pear, strawberry etc, with yogurts, cereals, several juices, and good coffee. She makes a full Scottish breakfast, and had gf toast which was brilliant so I could taste her homemade jams. I wish we had more time there, I would have loved to read in the garden, take more walks on the beach..alas it was a work trip and we were off straight away. I will be back!

I arrived here in January as a wedding guest and stayed for two nights. The hotel reception area and function rooms are beautiful, a great place to hold a wedding, birthday or conference. I did feel that the quality of the bedrooms did not match the price charged and this is why I can only give 3 out of 5. The bed was comfy enough, however the pillows were too soft, the hair drier barely dried your hair and the bathroom had been neglected. The floor had several marks and the bath was dirty around the edges. I would also say that the breakfast was not very good so all in all, a disappointing experience for the money. I did enjoy the wedding and the bride and groom had a fantastic day but I feel the rooms need to be improved.
