An orgy of flavors!!! Seriously not just a mix of flavor... An orgy. It's like a bunch of different flavors have an explosive party in my palette and every flavor in that party are attractive female super models. Enjoyed a glass of chianti Classico with some lamb followed by a chocolate sculpture. The view of the Colosseum and presentation of my lunch made this a treasures memory for myself. Excellent restaurant, could not ask for more. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Of course it is expensive but really worth it. The food was excellent and the wine choices as well. All the servings were excellent and a good representation of Italia. The service was absolutely excellent. The view is remarkable. We were there for 3,25 hr! As a Michelin rated restaurant, it has SPECTACULAR views. Unfortunate the food is just okay. Not great, not terrible - can't really accommodate gluten free or diary free well - unexpected from a 1-2 star Michelin establishment. Service was also embarrassing- they had one waiter for 4 tables - you had to pour your own water and ask for oil for bread 5x before some girl would run over erratically and give you 4 more droplets to dip your bread ONCE before needing to ask for more and waiting another 10 minutes. The server chastised me for pouring my own flat water (€10 a bottle) after I waited for 15 min and no one paid attention to refill my glass. My husband was embarrassed for the restaurant and was embarrassed I was chastised for pouring my own water that I paid for and had no one to serve to me. For a €450 dining experience, it was disappointing and probably the worst Michelin restaurant we had to date. But the view of the callusium were sensational. Also, the sommelier was SO RUDE. Literally spoke to us like we were morons and we just wanted to order a bottle of wine. He was sweating and very angry and basically Told us whatever we picked was fine - so we picked a €100 bottle which tasted like crap. Thanks nothing but insulting us with your precious 3 minutes of overrated service Mr. Sommelier! Great views, romantic mood, but oh the service and the food missed the mark. read more

3 stars is really generous for this place. I'm on a vacation in Italy and this place was advertised and a little hyped more then it really was. When we got their the view of the Coliseum was blocked due to construction but the only reason this place really gets 3 stars even is for the view. The food took an hour to come out! The portions were very small compared to prices! Place just didn't feel special and the food for sure was nothing special. read more

I had mixed feelings about Aroma and I am writing this review some time after reflecting on my visit. Without a doubt, the flavors in the food are present for this recently Michelin awarded restaurant. However, there were key moments that made me regret taking the bite in my wallet. There was a clear lack of organization in the progression of service. I noticed that several tables received certain small plates whereas others, such as my table, did not (I was among the first to arrive and paid attention to who ordered a la carte versus a tasting course so I could compare their service to ours). Our utensils either had dried food or were not spot cleaned. The menus given to the men only listed prices whereas those given to the women did not for both our own table and others, which is pretty sexist for it being 2019. With the exception of my soufflé (thankfully), EVERY single dish (pasta and bouillabaisse (fish stew)), was cold! If they spent less time making the dish look aesthetic and focused on the fundamentals, this most likely would not have happened. I also feel the need to mention I got food poisoning later that day. The only thing I ate before it's onset was the food at Aroma, which leads me to believe the cold fish stew I had may have been the culprit. (A sad price to pay for 85 euro...). Overall, I feel that Aroma is similar to any other restaurant near iconic landmarks in Rome. You are paying for the view and lower quality, overpriced food. If this place ever hopes to get its second star, the level of consistency, cultural awareness, and respect for the fundamentals needs to be held paramount. read more

Very few offer the diversity, selection, artful presentation, wine selection to pare with any meal ... along with excellent staff and service ... good enough to keep your attention away from the fact that an elevated view of the Colosseum is right in front of you! From breakfast, to lunch, to dinner ... every meal here was superb. The staff attentive and a kitchen accommodating to every request. Not for the budget minded or those who need extravagant decor over great food and service. Note the long sleeve, slacks dress code, (half the attendees will be in suits) for evening dining! There was a great deal to like about this restaurant. Service was mostly very good, the food was very interesting and had well balanced flavors that were very tasty. The amount of food, great. Paired wines were very good, one course even was paired with an excellent beer, and we enjoyed all of it quite a bit. Now the bad: most restaurants like this struggle with keeping small portions of food warm throughout the service of that particular course. This restaurant did worse than most in my view and so quite a bit of the food was rather chilly. Too bad-they should try to solve this. read more

My son and I dined at Aroma for lunch May 1, 2019. The entire experience was magnificent. The restaurant itself is clean and well designed.The staff did a very nice job.The view of the Coliseum is like no other. The food with all of the unexpected extras was a combination of beautiful artwork and an explosion of taste. I had the Mezzalune pasta and Cod entree, my son had the Tagliolini pasta and Bison sirloin. All was fantastic. Know that if you pay with a credit card there is no line on the credit card receipt to leave a gratuity. We booked our stay months back. Being from the west coast of the United States I waited till 4am to book what I thought would be an amazing experience after asking my girlfriend to marry me. Barely 24 hours to go and I get an email saying that there was a "booking error" and that they wouldn't be able to serve us the next night and offering to make a reservation at a different restaurant. 24 hours before yet it was a booking error on a reservation made months prior? Unacceptable. I've eaten at some of the finest restaraunts around the world including Central in Lima and i think we all know what happened; they bumped us off their list for a more high profile client. So beware, book the reservation months in advance and they might have the audacity to bump you a day before. Literally the worst experience ever for a restaurant and all they did to remedy the situation was offer to book a reservation at a different restaurant. Oh, and after the initial email, when I wrote back upset but respectfully to try and maybe push us to a different night, they didn't even bother emailing me back. What a joke. If this is how they treat potential customers, don't be surprised when they lose their single Michelin Star. read more

The pastry chef really knows what he or she is doing. The bread was excellent with perfect crusts. Went there for lunch with a reservation. Was given a corner table away from the view. When asked if we could move they at first told us it was full (we were early for a 1230pm reservation and were the first of 3 couples there). Then they said they would check If it's possible. Then they kindly moved us to a nicer view. Noticed other tables were being served other complimentary amuse bouche from the chef, and our table did not receive the the final extra dessert with meringue, jelly and other thing like other tables. Service was incredibly slow. I poured my own water from the chiller because it was difficult to flag them down, and I was thirsty, and we waited for our desserts for about 40 min. A soufflé does not take 40min long to make.. And the soufflé was already ordered at the start of the Lunch because one of us ordered a light lunch.. the food was okay (lamb ravioli, purple carrot cod, clam spaghetti) but I don't think it was incredible. We also noticed they timed the arrival of our soufflé with the table next to ours... That table was finishing up their first course when we had placed our dessert orders. So it's obvious that the restaurant just does not seem very organized as the flow was pretty bad. We were amongst the first there and everything was slow we ended up having a 2.5 hour lunch.... A la carte. The server who provided us shade was very nice and they were all generally polite. But the man in the blue suit (manager?) seemed to not be as friendly when I asked where the bathroom was, and rather pushy with the sale of alcohol when we told our waiter we weren't drinking. We asked for the cheque and that took another 15 min and there were errors two times leading us to be frustrated again. The man in the blue suit blamed a new employee (when he was the one who handed it to us...). They ended up covering the cost of one of our desserts but they really wasted our time and we did not feel that this restaurant deserved a Michelin star. To be honest, I never thought that slow service would make such a difference in the experience but it did here. read more

The view from one side of the coliseum was amazing! That is if you were having dinner. We only wanted after dinner drinks and had no reservations. Our hotel called in advance so we did manage to get upstairs, only to be escorted to the side with no view. We were even there after dinner service was completed, several tables were open yet we were denied the fabulous view that the diners had. When asked if we could have our last drink on the other side to enjoy the view, the very arrogant manager still said no! We are closed! Even though there were still a majority of tables still full yet no longer seating. We were well dressed and always gracious, yet we had to track down our waitress to get our second drink and no attempt to accommodate us was made. I have worked at a 5 star hotel and all attempts are made to accommodate a request within reason. This restaurant only seemed interested if you were their hotel guest and non diners need not attempt to try!!!! read more

The lit up colosseum view out the window (do ask for a table with a view of it or you may end up inside....) is really beautiful, and the service is pretty spot on. Food was exquisite, the view was captivating and breath taking made me so emotional that I couldn't even propose to my girl friend, I will never forget last night, it should go into their registry of one of the best proposal ever made at their restaurant!!!! Oh wait, that's how the f***king night was supposed to have gone but instead when I arrived the maitre D checked us in and walked us over to a window seat overlooking the other patrons enjoying their view of the Colosseum. A couple was already seated in my reservation that I made a month in advance and confirmed 2 days in a row to avoid this from happening. To be clear I speak, read and write Italian, so there was no room for misunderstanding that an outside balcony seat was confirmed. The rude and obnoxious Maitre D instead of seating us on 1 of the 3 empty tables he just told us he was filled up for the night and that we were lucky to have the seat presented. Oh I also forgot to mention that we were going to be seated next to the hostess station, I would have had her ass on my back the whole night. Thanks a million Restaurant Aroma for f**king up a wet dream. Stay clear of this place since the food sucks there any way!!! It is all a gimmick to sucker you in to eat there shitty food. So my girlfriend and I grabbed a slice of pizza and had them right on the side of the Colosseum where that view was breathing taking minus all the people trying to sell me selfie sticks. read more

We were on a trip to Rome and came to this place. The reviews on trip advisor were great so we decided to try it out. The view, service and ambiance were fantastic, but the food was just ok. We have been to several fancy restaurants in SF bay area so for what they charged us ($100 per person), we expected a lot more. My rack of lamb came with 2 pieces and they were not cooked properly (medium well). My wife's scallop dish did not seem fresh. The frozen scallops we buy at trader joes taste better. read more

This was our best meal in Rome. The service was perfect and the food was incredible. We had the suckling pig, kobe steak, seafood ? And the pasta. The food was an incredible complex combination of flavors and textures. Very nice. We then had the chocolate shuffle for dessert plus the house masse treats one of which was the best cream puff we ever had. Oh and the view is incredible.
