I had a reservation here for dinner, but my experience got off to a frustrating start. When I arrived around 5:00 PM, I was told that dinner didn't start until 7:00 PM. The problem is that when I called ahead, I was specifically told I could come for dinner at 5:00. Because of that, I ended up wasting time and money taking an Uber from my hotel, only to find out I couldn't be seated for dinner. That said, not all of the staff were unfriendly. Some of the employees were nice and tried to be helpful, and the rooftop views were beautiful. The location itself is definitely worth seeing. Overall, I was just disappointed with how the reservation situation was handled. Better communication would have made a big difference. The views are great, but the confusion and the way part of the staff handled the situation left me annoyed with my experience. read more

The view of the colosseum at night creates a magnificent backdrop to a fabulous meal. After a business meeting, I was fortunate to be invited to dine here and to this day it remains one of my most treasured dining experiences. We were a group of ten so we shared many appetizers. Too many to list but I will say, they were all divine! When it came to dinner, I opted for a bucatini pasta dish with lobster. The lobster meat was out of the shell - thank you - and the shell was placed on top of the dish as decoration. The sauce was a simple tomato, garlic and basil and all the flavors worked perfectly with the delicate lobster. With every twirl of pasta on my fork, I was moaning with delight! Too full for desert, I originally declined but when a colleague, who was born and lived her entire life in Italy gave the tiramisu a 15 on a scale of 1-10, I had to go for it. I'm so glad I did! Light, creamy, delicious, it was the perfect ending to an exquisite meal. I've seen many 2 star reviews and it definitely surprises me. I travel the world but this definitely was the worst food I have ever had in my life, from antipasti to primo to main course. Cappuccino was cold; service was very good. Reason I don't think this was a coincidence simply was that none of enjoyed our food. I would never ever go back here ever again. Again I insist that people were very nice. read more

Terrible Service and food. Took forever for food to show up and it was uncooked. Their excuse was that Italians eat their spaghetti slightly uncooked. I've had spaghetti previously in Italy and it was never that uncooked. Seems like they were in a hurry to cook the food. The waiters were also very arrogant, cold and could hardly speak or understand English. We got better food and service from the street restaurants near our hotel. read more

Hi Res located inside of the Valadier hotel... decided to try the roof top restaurant here in our hotel and am I glad I did , amazing service everyone is so polite and explains everything you need to know about the menu . Food is soooo delicious perfect size portions and taste so good, the rooftop is beautiful breathtaking taking views indoor and outdoor seating very romantic. And once again if your looking for a hotel might as well stay at the Valadier hotel and have the whole package all in one the service and staff of the hotel are great and hotel is up to date and very clean also in the perfect location.... deff 5 stars + frm me whn I come back to Rome will deff be back!!! read more

Our hotel recommended and made reservations for us. View is nice but nothing spectacular. We ordered oysters, calamari and tuna tartare as appetizers. Waiter had taken his time to explain different types of oysters that they offered and that helped our selection. Their pasta was more chewy and tougher than others local restaurants. Overall, we felt the food was okay. Service was exceptional. Their prices are a little bit more expensive than the quality of food. Nice peaceful ambience nevertheless read more

I wanted to give feedback regarding our visit to Hi-Res on Saturday evening. At the suggestion of our travel agent of over 15 years, we dined at the restaurant in 2017 and were very excited to return to dine again with our friends and family. However, what started out as a beautiful evening turned into an experience that I, nor my guests, will soon forget. I was VERY clear in my initial emails that this dinner was a CELEBRATION. When working out the logistics of the gathering, I mentioned that we would be celebrating a major accomplishment for my husband with 20 family and friends. I felt like this was understood by your establishment, so imagine the shock I, and others in my party, felt when we were yelled at by a patron sitting behind us during the toasting segment of our dinner. Granted, someone gave a surprise "yelp", but it was in no means threatening or louder than anything else in the restaurant. It was not only her tone or her saying "you people", it was also the threatening behavior in which she yelled and waved her hands towards us. We said nothing in response, and continued on with our toasts as she continued to yell. To add insult to injury at that time Daniel, came to our table and told me that we needed to quiet down. He did not go to the other patron and give her the same "talk" even though she continued to berate and yell towards us! I take many issues with Saturday night, but let me first be clear in stating that I,nor the four doctors, one mayor, one world renowned newspaper journalist, three college professors, two attorneys, 2 cyber security specialists, one interior designer, 3 international business owners, 2 accountants, a retired nurse and a 4 year old child would EVER be disrespectful or loud in any environment, let alone in a foreign country. We were a diverse group of all races, dressed in cocktail attire. Actually we were overdressed compared to the majority of your guests, and again, it was known to be a CELEBRATION by the restaurant from the beginning. With that being said, we were no louder than any of the other patrons. In fact, I asked Daniel to turn the music down more than once because people all over the restaurant were shouting to be heard. He said that he did, but at this point I highly doubt it. For him to have the audacity to come over and tell us to "quiet down", after the woman behind us yelled and was so rude,was a slap in the face. We were a party of 20. 20. Not four or six, 20. And again we were there for a CELEBRATION. If your establishment could not handle our large group or a party situation, you should have said so. If we were "loud" it should have been communicated BEFORE your rude patron yelled at us. Considering we spent close to $5,000.00 in your restaurant at some point, we should have been extended some grace and courtesies as I'm sure our ticket was the largest of the night. (I even added a photographer to the bill.) I am asking our agent to take you off her list of recommendations for her clients in the future. You failed us in the areas of service and professionalism and we are highly disappointed in what we experienced to say the least. read more

I have a hard time finding places I actually love in Rome and I have to say this place is now one of the few I do!! Every dish I had was super tasty, even the bread was great! Very nice atmosphere and you even get to look inside the kitchen as you enter and leave which I love!!! I got to try a lot of food but my absolute favorites were the orange and dark chocolate and Parmesan breads, octopus appetizer (crazy amazing!!), chickpea tortilini, and complimentary little desserts which were a white chocolate with lemon, a chocolate thing and a little pistachio cannoli all on top of custard. Absolutely a five star restaurant. From the service, to the artistry, everything was fantastic. My husband and I got the a la carte 3 course meal. Which means you have the same meal essentially. To start we had the shrimp coconut dish. It was our favorite. For our second we had the lobster linguine - fabulous. For our third we chose dessert which was the coconut, vanilla concoction. It sort of tasted like a jelly filled donut. Very Unique, delicious dishes. The chef complimented us with an aperitif when we sat, along with gazpacho after our first dish and dessert after our formal dessert. If you book through TripAdvisor you can get an additional 20% discount too. All in all, what you would expect from an upper end restaurant. We stopped here after a full day of touring sites. We arrived around 6 pm and we drank wine until they began serving dinner at 7:30. The staff is attentive and professional. The views were spectacular and the wine was exceptional. It is not a place to find a cheap drink, but we were not looking for that. The chef sent out complimentary hors doeurves, and they were spectacular. We requested a reservation for dinner and they readily accomodated our request. They provide interesting options. For example, they offer a meal that is based upon the party's agreed upon selections. So, the table chooses each course, and everyone eats the same meal. They also allow a Chef's selection, where the chef chooses each course, and that is what we selected. The Chef is world class, and the meal included 5 courses with a complimentary 6th course and a complimentary cordial. Each course was a manageable portion and they were nicely spaced. I thoroughly enjoyed each course and it was a very special night. We left around 11 pm and we made memories that will not be forgotten. In a city with countless exceptional choices for dinner, Hi Res is one that deserves to be at the top of any list. read more

Short Story: An over-hyped roof top with bland, overpriced food. Long Story: This place was recommended by our hotel because their roof top bar was closed. It was described as a "young, hip place with traditional food and creative dishes." We arrived for our reservation, and took an elevator to the top floor of the hotel. The elevator itself was interesting... it had a window in the back allowing you to view mosaics on the rear wall on your way up. It was also a nice, dark, antique wood. Finally, it was entirely trimmed in carbon fibre reminiscent of a teenager's dream Honda. Reaching the roof top, the view was... mostly of other rooftops. The building itself is six stories, and not the tallest building in the area. You can see some of a nearby piazza, a dome of a nearby church, and a distant palazzo. That's about it. As far as the ambiance of the roof top goes... think douchey, we-wish-we-were-in-NYC kind of vibe. Very loud (and crappy) dance/lounge music, e.g. a dance remix of Sweet Child of Mine with excessive use of autotune. All tables are lit by color changing plastic lamps--while they are interesting to look at, they're very ineffective if you'd like to read something like the menu or your bill. We were seated promptly, and given menus. Apparently, they have his and hers menus--one with and the other without prices. The menu itself is confused and appears to be aiming for an awkward Asian-Italian-French fusion. The wine list is pretty good though, and you can get a reasonably priced bottle of good wine. We were given Prosecco to start. While this is a nice touch, many places will give you a Prosecco for free at the beginning of the meal, but not at Hi-Res. We ordered a wonton basket chicken salad and an Octopus salad with potato cakes to start. The chicken in the wonton basket was well prepared, but there was very little of it. The octopus was almost missing from the octopus salad--there were maybe 8 small pieces of octopus. The rest of the salad was chunks of boiled potato. The potato cakes included with the salad were fried tempura style and completely inedible. Taking a bite tasted like sipping a glass of vegetable oil. For the next course, my girlfriend was able to order a traditional spaghetti carbonara (instead of the vegetarian carbonara available on the menu). The pasta was well prepared and quite tasty. I ordered lamb encrusted with sesame seeds with a side of fried artichoke flowers. The lamb was significantly over-cooked but not hard. What made it inedible was the taste of fish permeating it. The artichoke was also deep friend tempura style and tasted only of vegetable oil. After 10 days traveling Italy, this was both the most expensive and the least tasty meal I've encountered (and that's counting a 1am kebab in Florence). Finally--the service. Over the course of the meal, the service was good and attentive. However, at the end of the meal, the waiter would not give us a moment of peace until we gave him a tip, and kept insisting "service not included." read more

It's only a matter of time before this place becomes one of those restaurants you've heard of and you're going out of your way to visit. The food is inventive, exciting, and well thought out. The cocktails are creative and made with absolute care. I also can't say enough about the staff, knowledgeable and experienced, they make recommendations that are spot on and ensure you have everything you could possibly need without being intrusive. There were others who didn't mind paying those prices....but this is why I only have 3 stars..it's toooo pricy for food, in my opionion!! Excellent food, drink, service, ambience. A total be-back! We shared the €60 prefix... Which included the curry shrimp with vegetables, the sea urchin spaghetti, and the salt encrusted Seabass... Magnifico! Dessert was quite a surprise as we ordered the bread pudding; however, there was no bread it was just phenomenal homemade ice cream and a homemade nutella ... Quite an inspiration! And the Lychee rose martinis were Beyond Beyoncé! Only minutes from the Spanish steps, you really need to try this place as the view on the six floor overlooks the Piazza Di Poppolo. It was great! A gorgeous rooftop bar, with the to be expected prices to match the luxury setting. Still, it was reasonable considering each drink came with wonderful views and a small appetizer and courteous staff. When the staff learned I had celiac disease, they went out of their way to specially make a gluten free aperativo for me.
