This little market on Hwy 54 doesn't look like much form the outside. However, on the inside it's probably the best-stocked Indian market in Durham -- at least that I know of. They have a small selection of produce that's usually of good quality; I've gotten ginger and cilantro there. The focus is on Indian cuisine and they definitely have a good selection. We've bought rice, naan, snacks and some frozen items like samosas and pakoras. I don't cook much Indian cuisine so it's easier for me to get the pre-packaged items. They do have some other international ingredients and also frozen meat in the back freezer. Definitely a little gem of a store.

Holy chole - this place is amazing! Dedicated to items from India and her neighbors, they have every kind of rice imaginable (did you know there was such a thing as flattened rice?) plus hundreds of spices, pickles, curry powders, sauces, mixes, pastes, oils, essences, ghee, bread, yogurt, lentils, beans, prepared meals, frozen entrees, desserts, snacks, and teas as well as utensils, incense, and South Asian beauty/toiletry items. There is also a small produce section with veggies I've never seen before (many of these and more are also available frozen). I stocked up on spices to make chana masala and bought some really nice methi paratha. The prices were just right. It's heaven for Desis and Desi wannabes like me.

I found them via TooGoodToGo and enjoyed browsing the aisles while waiting on my food. Their chicken schwarma bowl makes for the perfect, well-balanced lunch. Fluffy seasoned rice, flavorful chicken, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and soft pickles for acidity. My only wish would be for even more garlic sauce (you can buy extra). I felt happily satisfied with my meal. I also could not resist buying the chocolate baklava at the counter, and oh man, it is good! Sweet, flaky, sticky, and chocolatey. They sell it by weight, and my 4 pieces came out to just over $7. The service here was great - eager to help without being obsequious. When I asked the lady running the register how much the pistachio cream cost ($10 a jar), she also showed me their assortment of Dubai chocolate for sale. Definitely worth a stop for an affordable lunch or your middle eastern grocery needs.

We use them to stock up especially on items "normal" American grocers or the co-op on near Pearsontown don'y carry. Their bok choy and summer melons in particular are wonderful. Get the melons. They all have fantastic selection of eel, pork belly, and other meat cuts that you don't see in the nearby Target (which is a shame that the most immediate grocer to me) and a much better price performer than the Wegman's without the pretense. If you're just there for Asian candy and snacks, "all" the big ones aren't there, but some are. It serves that purpose okay, but you're missing out if you limit yourself that way. It's located on the edge of the shopping center where Atomic Empire and that kids party place share. The customer service is brief but accurate and helpful. The bagging goes so quickly I almost feel useless standing there ready to pay. They have always been friendly and kind. I am also chronically ill and continue to mask due to early stage COPD and breast cancer. The other employees also mask. I actually feel safe there. I feel like they care. One of the cashiers also just glanced at me as if I wasn't welcome here. The space of this Indian grocery is quite large, and the whole place looked clean. They offer authentic Indian products, most of which I'm not familiar with. I just bought 1 mango lassi on each of my 2 visits. It cost about about $5+ but the first time, I was charged with convenience fee for using my debit card because I spent less than $10 - So unprofessional! The second time, I just used cash to avoid paying the convenience fee. Mango lassi was good: creamy, refreshing mango taste with a lot of cardamom. It's quite sweet; sweeter than most mango lassis we tried. My girl thought it was too sweet. I slightly agreed but I would probably buy this again if they ever decide to get rid of that ridiculous fee. | Overall Score: 3.4/5

I have not had an opportunity to venture around their supermarket so I don't know how good or bad that area is, but I've had their cafeteria food on a couple of occasions. Just to be clear, the speed and price of the food are the big positives, but it comes at the cost of quality. On my first visit, I ordered their Kongu mutton biryani and paneer tikka masala. The biryani was really dull and not very well conceived. The mutton itself was on the dry end and the spices did not pop like you'd expect in a fresh biryani. I'd say the color of the biryani itself is very telling. The paneer tikka masala was decent, but the paneer itself was really dense and chewy. I could at least enjoy the curry some, but would have liked a little more spice in that too. I came back and ordered their chicken curry. To be clear, it was labeled as "chicken curry", not a butter chicken, a korma or a vindaloo, just a curry. The flavors were Indian in nature, but not very harmonious like a well thought out curry. It was also very watery, and the chicken was dry and more bone than meat. The prices here are probably the biggest pull factor for Sangam Mart, they are the cheapest Indian spot in the area by a good bit! With such short lunch breaks and the desire to not burn through your wallet, Sangam Mart has its place. However, with so many other fantastic Indian restaurants in the area, it is hard for me to justify choosing Sangam Mart over the competition.
