Great Thai food. The ladies there were super nice and friendly. My husband and I found that place after checking out a tattoo shop nearby and saw that they were doing a little festival. The fried rice and pad Thai was very very flavorful! read more

I'll start off by saying that I don't generally give places a full five stars on my first visit…read morebecause they'll usually do something trivial to irritate me or their food won't knock my socks off. This place, however, had amazing food, the best Thai tea that I've ever had, and the woman who served us (I won't insult her by trying to spell her name) was extremely friendly and forthcoming despite the fact that they were closing in twenty minutes for the end of lunch. I'm from The States; so, perhaps I find British food a little bland and repetitive after a few months but their food had great flavor and was decently priced for the quality. After stumbling through the menu after a night of drinking, she kindly joked that I needed some sugar to clear my fuzzy head and recommended that I have a large Thai tea as we waited for our food. I agreed and Boy! Am I grateful I did. You won't find any of that orange, powdered pre-made stuff like you do in the states at this spot. It was so refreshing and definitely the pick-me-up that I needed. The Bangkok Pad Thai with prawns was also delicious. She let me spice it up and cautioned me against ordering the Thai Spicy until I came back haha. I stuck with a level three and it had some good heat to it. I also got eight giant prawns in a medium sized amount of Pad Thai. For me, that's pretty amazing considering that it was only 10 pounds and typically places either give you those tiny prawns or only one or two of them. So, I'll definitely be getting it again. My friends ordered the Drunken Noodles (with rice noodles) and the Panang Chicken Curry. They both let me try a bite of both and they were also amazing. The coconut milk in the curry is phenomenal and the drunken noddles had a nice savory taste. I would also order their meals another time. Other than the food being well worth it, the woman who took care of us and took our take out order was hilarious and I can't wait to go back and get to actually dine in. I'll be posting photos the next time!
Here's a few hasty shots of the take out menu and the hours of operation. Enjoy!

The building itself functioned as a public house as early as the 1800s, but has since been updated in furnishings and food fare--Thai, to be exact. With the exception of pub Prawn Crackers, there are no starters, just mains. Straightforward and no frills. Find your seat, order at the bar. Each plate will cost between £9 and £11. We both got Pud Thai; one with vegetables and cashews and the other with beef. The portions are large and I had to pack the rest of mine in a takeaway box. As it's a pub, prepare for noise and difficulty finding seats around dinnertime. Luckily we came earlier for lunch. I didn't order a drink this time, but they have the standard selection of cask ales and cidres to go with your meals.

We were looked after by a beautiful lady (Bar) and a man who did all the serving. They were excellent and made us feel at home. There were 3 of us and we opted for the Set Menu A. They allowed us to change one of the options because it looked a very hot option. We were over the moon with our choice. It was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed. When we go out for a meal, we go out to get the best restaurants and the cost does not enter the equation. As it was our bill came to £101 for 3 people, which we thought was excellent value. We thought it was a shame that they are where they are as there were not that many in the restaurant, whereas on the Brayford is was humming with people eating and drinking. We feel sure this restaurant would have been packed if the Restaraunt had been on the front as the footfall was amazing. This should not be taken as a negative but just an observation.

I placed an order for a main, rice, two soups and a mixed starter for two. Red Flag 1: The food was ready for collection within five minutes of the order. There is no possible way a main, rice, two soups and the mixed starter were prepared and cooked fresh, it was barely enough time to microwave it all! I picked it up and brought it straight home for me and my son to have dinner. Red Flag 2: As we portioned it up, I noticed some of the mixed starter looked like it was recooked leftovers; I took the less appetising looking ones. Within 24 hours I was violently ill, with food poisoning, to the extent that there was blood in my vomit. This lasted several days with me eventually being hospitalised, at which point I had not been able to eat any solid foods for 48 hours due to extreme nausea, etc. and I had only been able to drink with the extensive use of antacids. I had eaten absolutely nothing else that could have caused the food poisoning. When I was hospitalised I was put into my own room with a great view and nice 1970's ambience to it. Clearly someone decided to save a few pence and recook some leftovers, rather than throw them out just to save a few pence. I have had many takeaways from here, with them all being great food, but the risk of food poisoning means I will never eat food from this restaurant again.

When the plate, yup...not a bowl, arrived (don or donburi literally means "bowl" in Japanese) I knew this was not going to even be close to traditional Katsudon. There was no broth.
