I was not expecting such an intense workout session but I left there exhausted! We did everything from running laps to push ups. If you're a first timer they ask that you go in early for orientation where you fill out paperwork, pick out your gloves and learn the different punches and kicks. I recommend going for the orientation or you'll be so confused because the class is fast tempo, so I found that the orientation helped a lot. They also provide you with a free bottle of water on your first session. Keep in mind that the location is on a busy street metered parking street in Newark. You will get ticked if you're not careful. Also with the Groupon package you're given 2 weeks to complete 5 classes ( 1st class is free ) which I found to be a little tight... We have paid faithfully month after month for a decade. We recently even added a brand-new membership for our 13-year-old son because we believed in this gym and planned to continue here as a family. Tonight was supposed to be a meaningful family moment. My older son, who is ACTIVE DUTY U.S. ARMY, is visiting and wanted to work out with us. These moments are rare when your child serves our country. We were excited to train together as a family. All I asked for was a simple one-day courtesy pass. Not a free month. Not special treatment. Just one workout. The front desk didn't even try to help. They did not offer to check with a manager. They did not try to find a solution. They did not show any empathy. They simply said, "That will be $20," and that was it. After 10+ years of loyalty, a brand-new youth membership, and an active-duty soldier standing in front of them, they showed zero flexibility and zero humanity. This wasn't about money. It was about respect. The lack of appreciation for long-term members and military families is shocking. My children watched this happen -- including my son who serves this country -- and it was embarrassing and heartbreaking. A company this large should understand loyalty, family, and service. Unfortunately, LA Fitness Kearny showed none of those values tonight. We left feeling disrespected and seriously reconsidering continuing our memberships. Very disappointing.

I started with him at a different OTF studio in summer of 2018, currently have him as a personal trainer since May of 2021, and followed him to the Totowa studio where I go periodically in addition to the personal training. I'll start by saying that I've probably tried to write this review 20 times but never felt like I could find the words fit to describe how much this man has helped me. I still don't feel like I can do him justice here but gotta give it my best shot. He is hands down the most inspiring, energizing, optimistic and professional human (yes, not just fitness instructor but of any human overall) with whom I have ever engaged. He is INCREDIBLY good at what he does - both from his own hard work, dedication and discipline for his craft, and because he truly has a gift for elevating everyone around him. He's also brave and proud (hello pivoting from a previous career to follow his dreams in fitness and helping others), and made of integrity. I feel incredibly lucked to have happened upon Coach H by randomly signing up for my preferred time slots without regard to who the instructor was when I first started going to OTF. I was in the worst shape of my life, and sporadically doing lackluster workouts by myself at home was not getting me anywhere. When OTF opened in my city I decided to commit, but that was the type of decision I had made and failed at a million times before. Fast forward a few months and I noticed that I'm less likely to cancel a class if he's the instructor vs. anyone else. He works so hard for you, and you just end up constantly motivated to do the same. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt the variable that's lead to my success this time around, after a lifetime of failed attempts, is Coach H. Absolute best decision, best money I've ever spent. I don't care if you're an elite athlete or haven't worked out once ever - Coach H can meet you where you're at mentally and physically, and make you better than you are. I could immediately tell that this was a Crossfit Gym that was based on community. They encourage each other to push past their comfort zones and celebrate them when they do and help you up when you fail. You will find a variety of people at this Box. From the Young 20 year old kids who want to compete in games to the 60 year old members who just want to lose a few pounds or maintain their current body. I myself struggled with my technique and diet in the beginning, fortunately for me the Coaches (Ryan, John and Keith) we on top of it. They worked with me on my skills while in class and even during Open Gym on Sundays. We set monthly goals that were attainable and I was encouraged each step of the way. I was deeply saddened when I had to leave due to work relocation. I know that I can stop by anytime and will be welcomed by everyone there. This Box will always be a home to me and I consider each member as family. I will always be an ANiMAL!
