It's right next to Princeton's campus and the Battle of Trenton Memorial. My husband is a big fan of all the Signers of the Declaration, and unlike a more restored house about the people who owned the house, it focuses on the Stockton family who lived here and the American Revolution and a special exhibit. We were actually here for a few hours since there's a lot of signs to read and a lot of Richard Stocktons who lived in the house, followed by some governors. When I went, there was also a really interesting exhibit on Ma Bell and the history of telecommunications upstairs. This was a great historical site, a cheap price, and a nice space. Would love to come back when the garden is in bloom, and I will look out for future exhibitions as they rotate in.

From the minute you walk in and see that huge mural on the wall by the entrance , it truly stands out with its vibrant colors, and tiles to the beautiful framed artwork that stands out from room to room, and from artist to artist. If you're handicapped this can be somewhat of a hike, unless you got a spot on the street right across from the entrance like we did. I also recommend if a person can't walk well they use a wheelchair or skip it. There are some areas with stairs while walking so be prepared. If you have small children, a stroller is a must. They do have elevators to get you from floor to floor once you're in the building. It's located on the beautiful campus of Princeton University and it's completely FREE of charge which is unusual nowadays. This is a nonprofit so you can make a donation.It's open from 10-5p every day except Sunday 12-5pm and Friday when they are open 10-8pm. Double check when it's a Holiday, Princeton Art Museum offers over 80,000 ancient and contemporary works. It's a great way to see some amazing art, walk around the campus and take in some amazingly beautiful old building's on the campus. You can walk through town. There are tons of restaurants to choose from and a wonderful artisan ice cream shop. When you arrive at the museum, they have a concierge's desk that you can get a FREE map and ask questions. They have nice bathrooms too.There is also a small gift shop.that sell books, and memorabilia. There's security everywhere. All the guards were very polite and friendly. I got a late start so I didn't see everything, which is ok. I'll definitely be back. Parking is difficult. I suggest parking in a lot a block off Nassau street.. It was only $6.50 for a few hours. If you're lucky enough to get parking spot on the street across from the entrance, it really makes life easier. There is also limited handicapped spots in the lot and on the street.. I highly recommend going on a beautiful sunny day. The campus itself is beautiful. You can take your time and stroll the campus and the Art Museum. There are benches and places to sit in the museum. This is a wonderful place to see and learn about art, culture and history. When you're done you can check out the local bar and restaurant called Dinky's right on the campus. They make all kinds of cool cocktails and serve up some interesting foods.

The rooms are small and the art displayed is a jumble without narrative line or sensibilities. The bad art of first rate artists and a good selection of the second tier. I went for the exhibit on early Jackson Pollack, which was about a dozen early paintings that you'd never look at if there weren't Jackson Pollack's. Note you are best parking on the street on Nassau or at one of the nearby parking lots. The handicapped entrance is a distance from the steps, it looked difficult to negotiate. And, a shout out to the friendliest and most helpful guards.

Can you tell which are statues?…read more Years ago I went to Grounds For Sculpture, a 42 acre outdoor and indoor art exhibit with gorgeous gardens and every type of art you can learn and imagine. My boys were too young to appreciate it back then. This time we did it differently. Prior to going, we did a lesson on different types of art. We created slides to help teach us different types of art. I have included the slides so you can share these to your kids as an art lesson. While we were at the Grounds For Sculpture, I have to tell you... the way the Realism Art, Pop Art, and Abstract Impression Art Blended with its natural surroundings, my eyes began to play tricks on me! For a split second, regular people sitting on a bench looked like statues too! It's very well done! This place creates a dream like state. Go to the Meadow section first! This may sound overly exuberant, but I love this place!…read more Founded in 1992 by J. Seward Johnson (a Johnson & Johnson heir) his goal was to build a contemporary sculpture garden for the public to enjoy. The property was initially the site of the Jersey fairgrounds and later the Trenton Speedway. (It's so peaceful and lovely here, it's hard to imagine the raucous noise of racecars.) We signed up for a walking tour -- free with the price of admission -- which runs for about an hour. In addition, friendly docents walking around the grounds stopped to chat offering great information -- even some juicy gossip! Be sure to pull up the app on your phone which we found helpful. The garden is closed Tuesday. One of the sites said admission is timed, but mid-week we were able to simply show up. Note that veterans and seniors pay reduced admission. Parking is free and there's a restaurant/coffee shop in the welcome center that's an inviting place to refuel. The photos I snapped are the garden's realistic representations, but there's a whole host of contemporary sculpture, all very different with their own stories.

I only happen to find out, because I had tickets to an event in the State Museum Auditorium. The museum is free and on weekends parking is easy in the free adjacent lot. There is also a Planetarium, which has a $10 admission. The museum is housed on three floors with exhibits illustrating some of New Jersey's history. There is a section with artwork, some Native American history, a natural history area with dinosaurs, history of Trenton, and much more.

We stayed for about two hours and all enjoyed our time. Can't beat the price: completely free. Three floors with a hodge podge of New Jersey-related exhibits, including information about indigenous peoples, natural history such as dinosaurs and other fossils, fine art through the centuries, a planetarium, and a room with the simple theme of big items like a pair of phonographs and a wooden sculpture of Abraham Lincoln who once addressed the assembly at the State House Next door. It truly is an eclectic collection. All well labeled and informational. Not a bad place to kill a few hours and force my son to learn about his home state.

They're doing some renovations now, but any history buff will find this place fascinating. Inside you've got galleries, a gift shop, meeting spaces, and staff who are genuinely passionate about keeping history alive. Go, learn something, enjoy the energy of the fun tour guides. It's under construction right now, but I've been coming here for years when I visit family in Jersey, and it's always worth the stop. Trenton may be scrappy, but the Old Barracks is one of its gems.

With scenic walking trails, an outdoor classroom, day camps and a small indoor animal habitat, Briar Bush is a great spot for small children, couples on a date, or anyone looking for a brief respite from the urgency of the modern world. With free admission for locals and a small fee for out-of-towners, the preserve is accessible to all patrons provided that they are able to walk down some wooded trails that circle through the admittedly short walking routes. The centerpiece of the trails is a picturesque, secluded pond with benches for sitting and an interactive sign with information on the local fauna and flora. The indoor animal habitat has a small gift shop, pamphlets on upcoming events and information on other parks in the area, and several interesting animals such as a blind possum named Odin, a bearded lizard named Karl, and several other unique turtles and reptiles. All of Briar Bush can be walked through in an hour or so, but the low admission, interactive nature events and scenic walking trails will have you wanting to return again soon.
