This place was awful! I waited an hour to be seen. No reason was given, nothing. There are no dental hygenists here! The dentist does the cleaning, probaby why the wait was so long. They wanted to charge me for the cleaning I received before hand, they actually took my card while I was still in the chair. The dentist did the cleaning and didn't floss so I was spitting up sandy bits the rest of the day until I could get home and floss myself. Lame lame lame!!! read more

STAY AWAY! While I was sitting in the waiting room waiting to be called in an older senior patient was walking out from her appt and the front staff refused to let her leave until she paid her balance. The patient kindly told the front staff that she lives down the street and would run home to grab her checkbook and return. Still, they would not let her leave! They then began to ask that she pay with a credit or debit card instead or maybe an ATM card or if she can pull cash from the ATM nearby. Felt horrible watching this happen to a senior. And the office manager who runs the place, worst of the worst! This place will rob your pockets empty. First visit I was charged out of pocket for deep cleaning. Dentist was not able to finish my deep cleaning because the office was closing. I was told if I wanted to complete my deep cleaning I'll have to come back and pay again. Half a year later I came back for my routine cleaning. Was told my insurance would not cover one of the services and that I would have to pay out of pocket. Turns out they never billed for the service and they down coded the visit to collect payment from my insurance. In the health care industry this is considered FRAUD! Never went back after the second visit. Instead I filed a grievance with my insurance and the Dental Board. read more

I did not have a good experience with this dental office. I went to Art Dental because I had pain and sensitivity in my teeth a month ago. It's one of the dental offices on our insurance list and the only one that would give me an appointment on short notice ( within one week!) . I was so happy with that; my first impression was positive. However, after two visits, my impression of the office made a turn for the worse. I had high hopes when I first visited the office. There was only one person working behind the counter in the small office. I was asked to wait " shortly", but had to wait longer than I thought. Then I was asked to pay the co-payment. I couldn't pay with my credit card. Cash Only! After seeing the dentist, I was told that I needed seven fillings. I was shocked because I think some might not be necessary. After a few minutes, the receptionist who was working behind the counter handed me a bill to sign. I quickly glanced at the list and immediately found one price was almost 80 dollars higher than the other four prices , I asked her the reason. she just responded : "Oh, ok. I will print another one" without apology for her mistake. After I paid the bill of seven fillings , I waited for the dentist Loc Q. Huynh. The whole procedure did not go smoothly. I felt the doctor had to hurry off to his next patient who was waiting at the next door. I didn't think he had finished all his work on my teeth. In the end, he made me schedule another visit for checkup. I felt he should have spent more time on my teeth for my appointment and how much I paid. When I visit them a second time, they charged me co-payment again. The receptionist said: " Every patient has to pay the co-payment every time before seeing the dentist." So I had to pay again. However, I was just told yesterday by my insurance company that I didn't need to pay. My insurance company said I only need to pay the co-payment only if the dentist does work on my teeth, not for checkup! Also, I was not satisfied with the dentist roughly worked on my teeth which he didn't finished last time. One of my teeth was still painful and sensitive. And he kept polishing my teeth again and again which still look ugly. I also inquired about the higher fee of my five in seven fillings because they charged " cosmetic" fillings were not covered by my insurance. The reason I went to Art Dental was pain and sensitivity. How is persistent pain remedied by " cosmetic" treatment? And why didn't tell me the prices were not in my insurance list???( I found out by myself two weeks later from my insurance handbook) I feel they are really dishonest!!! After a lengthy back-and-forth with the receptionist. I asked to speak with the dentist. She flatly refused(!!!) stating "she was the person in charge of this and the dentist not time for this thing"!!! This is the worst attitude I have ever experienced in my life!!! Don't go! Stay away! My wife and I are in our 80s. She has ALS. We recently had the worst dental office experience of our lives at Art Dental Centre. When we arrived for my wife's verified appointment, the office manager, apparently the dentist's wife, told my wife they would not treat her for her very uncomfortable broken tooth. This totally surprising and rude message was delivered in the most cold-hearted manner. We previously had experienced their high pressure sales pitches and bait and switch techniques, but the mean-spirited treatment we suffered this time was humiliating and unconscionable. It was especially heart breaking after the difficult trip my wife, who is confined to a motorized wheelchair, had to make to get to the office, only to be cruelly turned away. This was the worst !! After seeing my teeth the dentist just freaked out and panicked. He said correctly that my back teeth needed work but in addition my front teeth were in danger. He refused to do anything even a cleaning saying he didn't want to be responsible in any way for the condition of my teeth. Fixing my teeth was beyond his professional capacity. Two other dentists reviewed my teeth and suggested crowns on the back teeth, no drama. Now I'm going to Lavassani who is taking care of it. Front teeth ok, just need cleaning and more care. The staff and doctor were nice to me. Unfortunately they don't offer payment plans which is something that should be stated before beginning services. I had to pay $72 and I still owe about $40 for him to touch my tooth and tell me I need a root canal. I had to go back and ask for a prescription. This place is ridiculous, the Asian lady that works there (I believe is the Dentist wife) is the rudest person EVER!! I wanted to punch her on the face but because I am better then that I didn't do it. My insurance referred me to this phony dentist, I called to schedule an appointment for my kids and I and the woman that answered said that they don't see children that are under 5 years of age, so I said "okay can you give me the name of a pediatric dentist? And she rudely said "NO, you have to call your insurance" I schedule an apmt for my oldest son and I and called my insurance and told them that this Dentist is not able to see my 2 year old. The insurance person said "really, here it says they specialize in small children and if they can't see your son they need to send you to a Pediatric dentist because we assign you to them. My son and I went to our dental appointment and this dentist told me my son needs braces and will cost me couple thousand dollars, I laughed and told him "you got to be kidding because just 2 months a go he got his braces removed and I am an RDA and I KNOW for a fact he doesn't need braces because all his teeth are straight and he doesn't even have an overbite" he turned red and didn't say a word for a minute. He looks at the x-rays and says "he has 7 cavities ($780) and needs a DEEP cleaning ($120), your insurance doesn't cover the cavities nor a deep cleaning. I said "really???, well this is funny because his other dentist took x-rays and he didn't see any cavities and he said he just needs a cleaning. I will schedule a regular cleaning (what my insurance covers) and later I will do the deep cleaning" he said "well I can't do the regular cleaning. I called my insurance while I was at the dental; office and they assured me that my plan covers a deep cleaning and you don't have to pay anything. I went back inside and told him and the wife came in with an attitude and handed me a bill for $1020 and to sign. I looked at her and asked her what was that for? And she said for our treatment next time we come, I told her that I was NOT going to come back and to go to hell. Sadly I had already given my inlaws this place number and they had paid $$$ for a deep cleaning each and some filling. I called my insurance and told them everything. Heed the warnings, I have been completely underwhelmed by my experience at this office. I went to this office twice and both times no dental work was ever performed on my teeth; not even a cleaning. They took x-rays on both visits, the dentist chatted with me both visits, they had me meet the financial adviser who advised me to change my dental plan so they can get paid more money, yet no work was ever performed. When I asked for a copy of the procedure and additional charges they were charging me, the adviser wrote it on a piece of paper. She wouldn't give me anything official from the office to which I thought was odd. I knew exactly how much my insurance covered, yet they were still trying to charge me more money. On my last visit, I went to the office in extreme pain due to a cavity, which to my understanding would be taken care of that day, but nothing happened. They took x-rays again, the dentist told me he was confused by my cavity, and then referred me to a specialist in San Francisco. Confused by a cavity...I quickly got the impression that he had no intentions on performing a procedure that day, but he wanted to charge my insurance for a visit and x-rays he already had...he got me again. Needless to say, I left the office in pain with an untreated cavity. I also noticed on my visits, that very little dental work was being performed on other patients. I saw a lot of consultations, but never heard a drill or other noises you typically hear in dental offices. I got the sense that this office will drain your insurance and then charge the patient for a procedure their insurance company already paid for. Thank Goodness my insurance changes to PPO in one month, but in the mean time, I have to go to Western Dental to get dental work done that should have been months ago. I went there 4 times, and I always was received within a few minutes of my appointment time. I first went there for a check-up + cleaning, and it all went smoothly. I'm not giving 5 stars because the person doing the X-rays was in training and she had to redo a couple of shots to get them right. Next times I went there was for a root canal + crown (first appointment: root canal, second: get the tooth ready and make a mold, third: put the definitive crown). Dr Huynh gave me a crown when another dentist assured me I needed a root canal, a much more costly procedure overall. That was three years ago. Recently moved from the east coast and needed a dentist, this happens to be the closest place to my house. My last dentist's office was super high tech with hygienists and all digital x-rays with the close up camera. This is definitely not a high tech place (although they do have televisions that show you your x-rays.) but I'm not sure what people are so down about. Dr. Huynh examined my teeth and gave me a cleaning which was a thousand times more gentle than my dentist before the high tech place. I was aware of some dental procedures that would be in my future according to my previous dentist and there were no new surprises. Nobody tried to sell me anything extra and Dr. Huynh actually adjusted a crown that had been bothering me for years. Will be going back to get the other stuff done. read more

First they rescheduled the appointment by an hour at the last minute. They cleaned my teeth in like under 4 minutes no flossing and no scraping of plague just a quick scrub with a vibrating tooth brush and then all he talked about was the implants that i had asked about but then that became his whole focus, right before i left i had asked if i had any cavities and he said that he wasn't worried about that but i did that i did have one, well i'm worried so i think him being my dentist should to, he was so caught up on the implants that would make him more money. then when i went to transfer to another dentist and need to get a copy of my xrays transfer to the new dentist they wanted to charge me 65.00 to have them transfered. I have Aetna's Dental DMO Insurance for my dental coverage. When I went to visit the Dr. Loc Hyunh at Art Dental, he diagnosed that I need a type of cleaning called "Full mouth debridement" which would cost $120. He mentioned that my teeth were not healthy enough for "regular cleaning" but they weren't that bad either to require "deep cleaning". What I needed was something in the "middle" he said. Now Aetna covers both regular cleaning and deep cleaning under the DMO. But full mouth debridement (the "middle" option) according to the doctor is not covered. When requested to at least give me a regular cleaning, he said I was not eligible because I needed more than that. I don't think regular cleaning needs any eligibility because every person who is covered under the DMO plan is allowed 2 regular cleanings a year or 2 deep cleanings, if the condition is worse. Upon requesting a little more, he said if I had PPO, he would do it because under DMO, he doesn't get paid anything from the insurance company. It appears that the doctor is falsely advertising that he accepts DMO and when offering services, he refuses to do anything that is covered under DMO just because he isn't paid much. It appears that the goal behind advertising that he accepts DMO is to get the patient enrolled into his facility and when the examination is done, he can confuse the patient into believing that he should get services where the insurance does not cover anything but the patient is responsible to make the full payment. Upon asking for a copy of the examination report, the lady at the front desk said that it would cost me $40 just to get my own examination report which Aetna covers. Additionally, he gave me an estimate of having my old crown removed which would cost me more than a $1000. I wasted an hour with him getting 20 x-rays and then in the end got no treatment done because all he seemed interested in was the money. I think the facility should be held liable for confusing customers and denying them services that they are rightfully entitled to. The doctor shouldn't be allowed to advertise he accepts DMO because he doesn't really honor the terms of the DMO. Moreover, since my plan ended in Sep. 2012 - the same month that I visited him, I can't go to any other dentist because the primary care dentist under a DMO cannot be changed until the first day of the following month.For this reason, now Aetna would not cover my cleaning charges with another dentist. Really dreadful. Try to push procedures and services you don't want/need. I came in for a simple cleaning/checkup simply because this was the place closest to my home (my rotten insurance provider--Delta Dental--decided to remove my previous and wonderful dentist from their network). Anyway, they have a disorganized staff, suffer from constant miscommunication, and tried to sell me on orthodontia, a "deep cleaning", two fillings and more besides. I had to argue just to get my simple cleaning! Before I new it, they were numbing my mouth to prepare me for injections and I had to pull the q-tips covered with anesthesia out of my mouth in protest. I had a terrible experience at Art Dental. The staff are dishonest and are looking to make money more than care for the patients. I have Aetna DMO insurance and I got a crown in March 2011,When i went into the office back in June 2012 for a cleaning, I informed them that my crown felt loose but they told me that they could not do anything until it came completely out. I found that to be strange, but soon enough it came out. Just yesterday (September 19, 2012), the crown broke off. I went in today (September 20, 2012) and they told me that they could extract the root of my tooth that the crown was initially attached to, but would leave a gaping hole in my mouth and if i wanted to pay and additional $100, they would sew my gums up. I have already paid $1200 for the crown and had they done a good job with the crown, it would not have broken off. The receptionist Mitra was very rude and dishonest about my options and insisted that I would have to pay more. I filed a quality care complaint with Aetna and they are now investigating the office. read more

I have been to Dr Hyunh a few times. I like him a lot, and believe he provides great dental work. I needed a crown, urgently, and he did an excellent job (I've been to some terrible dentists over the years, and he is not one of them). However, his front staff person (perhaps his wife?) is extremely difficult. She is obsessed about the bottom line, and she seems to dictate what is ordered/provided by Dr Hyunh by what your insurance will pay for. She is money-hungry and poorly runs that office with miminal customer service, long wait times, little info about what your insurance will cover and what the co-pay will be; she just prints you out a receipt and demands payment. She looks like an unhappy person to me, and one who is anxious and constantly on-edge. it's too bad, though, because I really do like Dr Hyunh. But she is a HUGE deterrent to go back to Art Dental! read more

The office and the insurance company both confirm that she was entitled to 2 free cleanings a year. I make an appointment for my mom. Then she goes to the office, they take x-rays and then tell her that she needs to pay $160 for a deep cleaning. My mom who doesn't speak English calls me to find out what is going on. The office manager or whoever answered the phone doesn't explain why she's not getting a cleaning she just says the dentist says they will only do a deep cleaning. I later call the insurance company who explain that if a deep cleaning is necessary no regular cleaning will be performed as this can be a liability to the patient's health. The Dental office never explained this, they only said that they would not do a cleaning and that we needed to go to another office. No explanation. If they had explained this instead of just telling me and my mother that they would not do a cleaning we could have worked with them. I should have listened to the yelpers. DO NOT GO HERE. Wow! I though it was just me, the wife is a ruthless heartless person. In April of 2012 I had dental work done, and also fitted for a partial. I received the partial I thought every thing was done. I was at a function on on May 2017 partial broke in half while I was eating I quickly left and call Art dental I was told to come on in to see if they could possibly fix it. When I got there I was confronted by the stupid wife, she had my file and proceeded to tell me that the partial was temporary and was only suppose to last for 6 months , mind you I've have it for 5 years no one had ever mentioned to me that it was temporary she became very argumentative and said that the dentist did tell me that it was a temporary partial I began to tell her I have good dentist plan and why woud I keep a temporary partial if I had know that it was. Well she proceeded to tell me we don't want to work with you any more left me high and dry. I was so furious with the wicked witch. I don't recommend this place to my worst enemy . Stay clear away from that place, by the way i have found a wonderful dentist that took me in and now I'm waiting on my permanent partial. read more

BEWARE. This is the singularly worst experience I've ever had with a medical "professional" in any field, bar none. They were assigned to me through my dental plan, and frankly I wish I had read the reviews here before subjecting myself to the abusive treatment I was subjected to by the office manager (apparently the dentist's wife), and the fact that the dentist only addressed one glaring issue, my need for a root canal, while ignoring the fact that I also had another cavity and would also need a deep cleaning, even though l had broached that subject with the dentist prior to the initial cleaning. When he finished the cleaning, I asked him about the state of my teeth and gums, and was told that I had no cavities beyond the molar in need of the root canal, and that a deep cleaning wasn't needed. I was referred to a specialist who performed the root canal, then tried to make an appointment with Art Dental to follow up with the temporary then permanent crowns. For some reason the office manager continued to ask about the crown that had fallen out, though I tried on various occasions to communicate that it was in order to place the temporary crown and prepare for the placement of the permanent crown. Since communication evidently didn't seem possible I took the time to go down to the office which was closed, when advertised as being open. Later in the week I called the receptionist at the front desk who was very kind and took care of business without any further ado. When I called back again to ask for the amount of my copay I was told by the office manager that she would get back to me on it. Toward the end of the day she still hadn't gotten back to me, at which point I called and told her that it wouldn't be a problem, to please cancel my appointment and to leave it at that. The dentist called me that evening and try to make things right and since I had thought that his service had been good up until that time I accepted his word and made an appointment to come in and see him. During that conversation he mentioned that he had reviewed my x-rays and found that I had an additional cavity that would need to be addressed as well as plaque underneath the gums. I was surprised by this as I had attempted to address that issue previously with him and had been told after the first initial cleaning that there were no further problems or any issues of concern. In spite of this I followed through and went into my appointment for the placement of the temporary crown and had the unpleasant experience of dealing face-to-face with the office manager. She handed me a form and abruptly told me to "sign right here". I asked for a moment to review the document when she once again banged on the line and told me to sign. After reviewing the form, signing and paying, she started to harangue me about our previous interaction. This appears to be an individual who thrives on conflict. I'm now with another dentist who actually does the job and is civil. The difference is night and day. Do yourself a favor and heed the one star reviews. read more
