The Infinity Science Center in Pearlington, Mississippi, just south of Interstate 10, is a huge…read morescience and space museum filled with hands-on exhibits and incredible artifacts that are must-sees for anyone who loves science and space. The nearby Stennis Space Center is not open to the public. However, the Infinity Science Center is just outside the Stennis Space Center, and it brings NASA history, space flight, earth science and science-related technology to life. This museum offers an abundance of superb exhibits about the history of the Space Program. Exhibits are both indoor and outdoor -- the outdoor area includes the first stage of a Saturn V rocket. The Stennis Space Center is the main facility for NASA rocket testing, so if you are a space flight enthusiast, this is a great place to visit. Real space memorabilia are displayed, including spacesuits, the Apollo 4 capsule, and a lunar module mock-up. The anti-gravity displays are fascinating. Hands-on exhibits are plentiful and educational, including a "create your own hurricane" exhibit. If you need to take a break and sit, movies are shown in their little theatre. The gift shop and cafe are pleasant, and good places to get a drink, snack, or light lunch, and a fun souvenir (I got myself a great NASA ball cap!). Just off Interstate 10, this is a must-see for anyone who has a love of science, math, engineering, or technology -- and wonderful for children interested in STEM. Even if you're just passing by on your way to someplace, this is very much worth stopping for at least an hour of your time.

The place is packed with fascinating artifacts and hands-on exhibits that bring NASA history, Earth science, engineering, and technology to life in the coolest ways. From the moment we walked in, we were surrounded by wonder--interactive displays, real space memorabilia, and so much more. The experienced hosts and staff were fantastic; they genuinely love sharing knowledge and took the time to explore the space with us, answering every question my daughter fired at them. It made the whole experience feel personal and exciting instead of just "look but don't touch." If you're in the area (or even if you're not), this is a must-visit for families, especially if your kids are into STEM. We left inspired, educated, and already planning our next trip. The first annual St. Clare Oyster Festival was fun!…read more I discovered this festival by accident. I happened to be driving down US 90 when I stopped at a traffic light. In the neutral ground (median for those of you reading this in Mississippi) was a sign advertising this festival. I couldn't find much information online, but I figured, what the hell? Later that day, my youngest and I decided we'd give it a try. This was a typical Catholic Church festival. There were lots of crafts for sale, bounce houses for the kids, and a stage with bands. Considering that the festival had Oyster in its name, the oyster offerings were pretty sparse. I'll cut them some slack since it was the first year, but I expected more than two or three different oyster dishes. We did get two dozen charbroiled from the Silver Slipper and those were pretty good. I consider it a testament to my parenting skills that my youngest loves charbroiled oysters as much as I do. After eating oysters my kid decided she needed something sweet. There was a container of cupcakes that had a $5 price tag. I thought that was kind of steep for one cupcake and I was right. That was for the whole box and they couldn't sell them individually. So guess who ended up with a dozen cupcakes? We had a lot of fun at this festival. I hope next year is just as fun. If you see the signs, I recommend you visit this family friendly festival in the town of waves.

Gallery 220 is my favorite art gallery…read more For those that know me, you know that the idea of me perusing an art gallery is quite humorous. I don't frequent traditional art galleries, but Gallery 220 is anything but traditional. It's unique, casual, reasonable and more of a shared space where many different artists can sell their creations. Inside the shop there are six or seven different areas. While all are cool, there are three that stand out to me. The first is immediately to your left when you walk in. That area has art created from metal and wood scraps that Is industrial looking while still having a homemade look to it. The best items there are their magnets with metal hearts affixed to wooden blocks. No two are alike and they are very reasonable. The next area I really like is along the left wall towards the rear of the front room. That area has art that focuses on local sea life. My favorite painting was one of a crab, but it was a little rich for my blood. Last, but most certainly not least is the area in the back room. There you'll find the custom ceramic artist that recreated the facades of local and New Orleans businesses and landmarks. There were famous Nola restaurants like Commanders Palace, all the local cities, and even that bullshit school Jesuit. These ceramic pieces were remarkably accurate and were very reasonable. If you are in downtown BSL, you owe it to yourself to stop here.

I came on a Sunday not really realizing there was a larger city event going on in town, which only affected my visit here by slowing down traffic. Getting here was easy, the museum takes up several buildings, so there is plenty of parking. This place is freaking amazing. The employees are very friendly and more than happy to share information about the trains and the city in general. Though they were all about the cruise in that was going on, and I am not into large groups of people. There are model trains with whole cities around them, mock ups of famous buildings, large stores, all made from Legos and similar materials. There is a Jurassic Park, gnomes, dinosaurs and oh so much more. If you are in the area, I highly recommend a stop in here to spend a few hours, especially if you have small humans with you.
