Art Lab is situated in cultural and historic Snug Harbor, SI. The massive building overlooks the grounds of the greenhouse, Chinese pagoda and a field with exotic plants. There is a large variety of classes offered for different interests and all ages, such as: sewing, abstract painting, photography, printmaking, portrait, watercolor, oil, -painting, mosaics, jewelry making with fire, saw & hammer, ceramics and much more. One of my personal favorites, is the Stained Glass class instructed by Chris. The teacher is absolutely insightful and supportive. Class materials are provided, but it is recommended that you buy materials that best suit you. There is a large assortment of glass available every session. You are always welcome to display your works at the annual gallery shows, and see other great works created by fellow stained glass class members. read more

I have taken a few classes recently at the Art Lab, which were very enjoyable. Its a night out of the house to learn a new craft and to socialize. The instructors are professional and have great knowledge in their fields. They are willing to help you finish your project or make suggestions on how to improve on them. I suggest you try a class. I've been taking lessons in stained glass at the Art Lab for the past year. The teacher, Chris Travers, is very knowledgeable, having been a glass artist for more than 30 years. I am in my third year attending classes at Art Lab. I love the setting. It seems like an escape from the city and the grounds are breathtaking. The instructors are masters in each area and the trip is worth it for three hours of studio time to work on art. I come in from Brooklyn!! read more

I did not like my class very much...I was in the watercolor class...and found the teacher rude and condescending to me. perhaps my skin was a bit too dark. read more
