The space is small but has an expansive…read morefeel, featuring stained glass details, a sparkling crystal chandelier, and an array of landscape paintings by the gallery's owner, Barbara Forrest. In addition to strikingly rendered landscapes, the gallery features jewelry and ceramic pieces, all invitingly exhibited and fairly priced. When I visited Barbara was not present but her husband was on site. I enjoyed hearing about the specific inspirations behind each of the artworks and plans for future work. Many of the landscapes are rooted to nature and the artist is currently at work on a variety of scenes of St. Louis to commemorate the city's 250th anniversary. One thing that I noticed upon entering the gallery is a book featuring prints of landmarks - The Gateway Arch, Fox Theatre, Forest Park, Busch Stadium, and many others - from which customers can select to build their own, customized triptychs. Prints are available in a variety of formats- from minis to larger prints and framed/matted or unframed. The primary medium is watercolor, although one of the paintings on display features special, Japanese paper that lends an almost quiltlike effect to the composition. The level of detail is striking, in some cases arresting, and invites the viewer to become immersed in the subject. I was drawn to a watercolor of Lafayette Square houses in a row. The frame and mat perfectly offset the painting and make it one-of-a-kind. For those unable to make it to the gallery, or who want to get a feel for the works on offer before visiting, I recommend the artist's web site as a good starting point.

When…read moreplanning my trip to St. Louis, I decided to google Fair Trade St. Louis, and this place came up. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that it did. I met my St. Louis BFF, Lynn! I ended up spending a lot of money between the two stores. And Lynn, who helped me out on Saturday, didn't tell me about the Delmar shop so I think she was trying to protect my pocketbook (a valiant try, Lynn!). I spent close to two hours here wandering around and looking, trying things on and being indecisive. Luckily (for me, at least), only a few other people came in while I was there. Statuary, jewelry, clothing, incense... and it's a big space. I'm not an incense person, but I have *really* missed buying great jewelry. And I bought plenty of it. They have great semi-precious earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bangles... I also bought a pashmina scarf, a Buddha and a Kwan Yin statute for my office. Can't wait to visit again, but it's a good thing it isn't closer!

They have some fine reproduction pieces ranging from many of the eras, from the Gupta and on. The prices are cheap when considering the craftsmanship. There were tons of little statues and trinkets and a lot of impressive masks. They featured works from Buddhist, Hindu and beyond. The workers were very nice, but they kind of creeped me out a little.

Merill Strauss greeted us and told us about the pieces, the history, and helped us understand a bit more about the artwork and how it's assembled. Look for incredible colored glass exhibits from famous artists. You can see many of these pieces in Museums, businesses and mansions. Some pieces are far larger than chandeliers and have delicate "petals" coming out like flowers. I can't wait to go back and see what they have in store for us.
