This is a must Halloween or Holiday visit! It's beautifully decorated for the seasons! Fun fact: There is a bowling alley in the basement that wasn't in the plans of the house. The Magic Chef Mansion, constructed in 1908, is a piece of St. Louis history. Located within the charming Compton Hill Reservoir Square neighborhood, this estate stands as a testament to old-world grandeur. Its majestic presence, designed by Ernst Janssen for the visionary founder of the Quick Meal & Magic Chef Stove Company, is a captivating glimpse into a bygone era. Sitting on two lush acres, the mansion exudes elegance and enchanting. It serves as a captivating backdrop for tours and events, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in its rich history and timeless beauty. For those seeking a taste of St. Louis' architectural experience, the Magic Chef Mansion is a must-visit destination.

this is the best and most fun house tour I've ever been on. the magic chef mansion opens its doors once a month for a fantabulous experience. every tour is different and I was lucky enough to come right during spooky season. the decorations were so fun and scary it must be such a beautiful experience living in such well kept history. the restorations and renovations are seamless, like stepping a foot back in time

Once upon a time, I used to live next door to this beautiful mansion. I enjoyed looking out my windows and seeing it every day for 2 years. I had the chance to mingle with the owner on a couple of occasions along with enjoying the public tour. It is by far one of my favorite historic mansions I have visited in the US. Maybe I am partial since I lived next door, but it is still a has a noble grandeur that any historical architecture lover would in awe. Not to forget to mention that I also loved being near the water tower as well.

A beautiful job of restoration, a gem to visit. Informative people in rooms to give history.

You would think finding a decent ghost tour in STL with all its history would be easy...well, it's…read morenot. For a recent trip I settled on St. Louis Ghost (part of US Ghost Adventures). The website was easy to use and it was easy to fin da convenient time for our trip. The few reviews I was able to find seemed to be decent. I'm not a super experienced ghost tourer but we have been on others- a little spooky and eerie but very informative with great stories. I had hopes this would be similar...it wasn't. It was so terrible we left an hour into the tour which pains me because I even paid for the extended tour but we just couldn't take it anymore. We have literally never done this. We were bored, we were tired, and we both concluded that we weren't learning anything all that interesting to want to spend another hour with a guide that seemed to really not care and would keep complaining about the size of the group. First, the instructions for the meeting spot and how to spot the guide were terrible. We actually ran into others looking for the meeting spot and all managed to find it together. Frustrating start but not the end of the world. Second, the group was HUGE. Like, 30 people. The guide didn't use a mic or any way to amplify his voice but kept commenting how huge the group was like it was a surprise. Which is mind boggling to me because you sign up online so theoretically the size of the group is known. It was way too big. Check in was agonizingly long as well. I was really looking forward to hearing about the cool history and kept my expectations low on the scares. I don't spook easily but I was looking for something my hubby could enjoy as well. I was also trying to keep the cheesy factor to a minimum. The bottom line: the group was too big, the stories were boring and barely stories. There was no interesting build up. Several times the guide said, "Oh, I tried to see if there were any ghost stories on this building but couldn't find any" as we walked by. Like, really? At one point he yelled at a car or some passersby to look up US Ghost Adventures. I was also disappointed that the ending spot of the tour was way far from the starting point- not cool when parking is atrocious. It's not the safest area so I wasn't super keen on having to walk extremely out of our way. I can't recommend this company. Go grab dinner and/or some drinks somewhere fun for the cost of the tickets and I promise you'll enjoy it a lot more. I was so bummed because this was supposed to be a fun surprise activity but it turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the trip. Do not recommend at all.
