Amazing place, amazing staff, and extremely relaxing environment. I wasn't the one who received a massage, but I scheduled one for my wife and dropped her off here. Therefore much of my feedback is from my brief time there talking to the staff and what my wife relayed to me. Pros: - Owner is very friendly and welcoming. - Staff is top-notch, very accommodating and highly skilled - Decor is top-notch, very creative and encourages customers to relax. - Location is convenient, even if it's right downtown. Lots of parking available and easy to find. - I'm not one for the artificial relaxation-inducing atmosphere, as I'm not a stressful kind of guy, but this place actually made me feel a little more relaxed for just the few minutes I spent here. Hushed communication, peaceful decor, dimmed lights, and friendly, open staff just somehow got rolled together perfectly to put me at ease. Cons: - Expensive, but not unreasonable. - You're encouraged to take off your shoes when you enter. That's a little unusual. I'd understand for the massage rooms, but not the lobby. I'm sorry, but I don't take off my shoes outside of my my own home and homes of friends/family. - If you schedule for a specific session, you can't downgrade your session upon arrival. For example, I scheduled for a 90 minute session, but wanted my wife to be able to downgrade to 60 minutes depending upon how she liked it. They don't allow this. Some other massage parlors in town would do this for its customers. After all 90 vs 60 minutes isn't a huge price difference. - Owner mentioned the place is themed after the goddess Artemis. A little eccentric, and one of "those" people. But to each their own, she's still very friendly and professional. So if you don't care to discuss pagan stuff, just avoid small talk with her. The cons were just nit-picking and not enough to detract from my star rating and the wonderful experience you'll receive from a massage here. read more

This massage happened to be the first one for me and my boyfriend. We cannot speak more highly of the experience from Artemis massage studio. They take great care to make you feel comfortable, and they pair that with an amazing massage. I was in State College for Christmas and wanted to find a massage to help me with tension and pain from a recent car accident. My brother knows Whitney, the owner of Artemis, so he contacted her to make sure her therapists are trained in the appropriate techniques for my situation (I'm supposed to avoid deep tissue massage). I got set up for an appointment with Tony. The massage was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I'm so grateful. Tony asked me a ton of questions, was very knowledgeable, and used a nice combination of the techniques I needed. I think it was a combination of trigger point, myofascial release, and positional release. Whatever it was, it was ideal. He relieved a lot of the pain near my scapula. The difference is really noticeable. I will be back to see him the next time I am in State College. If you are recovering from an injury or an accident, I highly recommend seeing Tony. read more

THIS studio. Kind of impossible to put my experience over the past four years into words but this business is way more than a place to simply get a massage. My first visit to Artemis was on the brink of a Lyme disease diagnosis and I was in such terrible pain and not sure what to do next. Artemis was the third studio I called (the first two I cannot even remember names of because the experience on the phone was that forgetful). The kindness I received from Artemis right from the start was overwhelming - Whitney gave me a comprehensive consultation over the phone, fit me in the same day and matched me perfectly with a massage therapist that would help best with my symptoms. Artemis was truly a huge catalyst for improvements in my health over the last few years. I have been to the studio for massage therapy so many times I cannot count, have joined in on meditation sessions and even use their essential oils products regularly - they are a game changer on a stressful day and especially during the Winter season! It's also so important to mention that the first massage I EVER had was here at Artemis - I have been to about 10 studios since I left the State College area and nothing can compare! This is a great spot. And Umbayi is the best! The. Best! There's a greasy dive spot right outside before you enter the building to head up to Artemis, and yet, once inside the building you can't even tell the fast food place is there. You can almost smell the spa before you get in the elevator to head up. Or maybe it was just the anticipated bliss that made me think I was smelling essential oils. Either way, don't let the downtown location fool you. The place is beautiful and relaxing. It's not a day spa, so don't arrive expecting to lounge before or after your appointment, but enjoy the ambiance and amazing therapists they have on staff while you are there! read more

I can't believe I didn't get around to posting a review sooner! After reading good reviews I got a couples massage for myself and my husband as a Christmas gift, and it was spectacular. A very beautiful and calming atmosphere, and the massages were great. Our therapists were incredibly in tune with how we reacted to certain types of massage and truly catered a unique massage experience for us. We could barely even talk afterwards, we just took some time in the Starbucks across the street to drink some water and smile at each other. I just got my husband another gift certificate for some end of the semester relaxation, and I hope I can squeeze in some time to go back again too! Oh, my therapist was Dane and I'm pretty sure my husband's was Amy but I only have Dane's business card so I can't be sure. Moved to a larger studio with multiple rooms to cater to its growing clientele. Still has the same relaxing environment and color palette. High praise to Seth for the massage I received today! 2 weeks before my 50th birthday I fell and broke my ankle. I wondered if getting a birthday massage would be advisable, but still wanted to treat myself. I was prepared to feel like 75% of my body was massaged and relaxed but that my injured leg would be left untouched. Seth gave me a thorough and balanced massage and made every effort to give as much attention to my injured leg as he did to the other one. Post-massage, my injured leg feels great! I think the massage improved circulation and helped relax some of the muscles that are not getting their typical range of motion. Most of the reviews talk about how pleasant and friendly this place is. That's all true. The surrounds are subtly elegant, clean, calm and tasteful. I care less about that than having a masseuse who knows about the technical aspects of massage. After inquiring about sports massage I was matched with Mark, who will probably be responsible for allowing me to run, jump, cycle and sprint for another decade. As a newcomer to State College, I had no idea where to go for a massage. Based on the Yelp reviews, I chose Artemis, and I'm so glad I did! I saw Alexa for a deep tissue massage to address my neck and shoulder pain, and she was amazing. She checked in with me throughout to make sure the level of pressure was good, and spent a lot of time working on the problem areas. The massage definitely helped my pain level and increased my range of motion. What a gem in state college! Five star service for less than five star prices. Professional and top notch service all around. I'm connected () to the owner of this wonderful little studio but my review is not biased! Multiple things drew me to having to try a massage here. I can be somewhat of a massage snob having spoiled myself at some amazing spas all over the place, and Artemis did not disappoint. They were accommodating, knowledgeable and experienced. I got a double massage with my mom here and we both have totally different preferences. They set us up with the right therapist, listened to our needs, and delivered right on point! The ambiance was great. The tables were toasty and warm on a cold rainy day. The essential oils were just right - I recommend the breathe mix! I am a first time client and while trying to relax and wait for my therapist, the young brunette receptionist chatted loudly on her cell phone. She was on it when I arrived and had to put it down to check me in. She was definitely not talking to a client and was gossiping. This was so irritating and the last thing i would expect at such a nice studio. Ironically you cant call to make an appointment and have to request an appointment on their website. They email you back to set it up. I assumed this was because the spa wanted to keep a super calm atmosphere without phones. Guess not!!
