My fiance and I came to this shop during a day trip to Salem last week. Salem as a whole is gorgeous but this shop was amazing. They had everything you could possibly want: Floor to ceiling herbs and teas, oils, guide books on various botanical topics, and lots of potential gifts. I got myself and my mom a witch ball, and they're gorgeous. I have mine hanging on my plant shelf now that I'm home. I was worried about flying with both witch balls, so the kind woman working there said they could just mail the one to my mom for me! My mom just got it today and couldn't be happier. The herbal shops category can be really wide-ranging. It can refer to many things. But when I think of my dream herbal shop, I'm pretty sure its Artemisia Botanicals. It's no coincidence that Artemisia Botanicals was named to a recent Yelp blog of the top 25 herbal shops in the USA! I was immediately captivated by the walls and walls of teas, oils, essences, candles, herbs, spices, incense, tinctures, salves, soaps and more. Whatever you need to enhance your spiritual practice, they carry here. One of the things that surprised me was how deep commercialization of witchcraft had hit Salem. However, Artemisia is the real deal and fully unaffected by the deep capitalism otherwise running rampant through the city. They in no way are sacrificing their authenticity, quality or commitment to the community. One of my main goals while visiting Salem was to have a tea leaf reading...and I was absolutely blown away by the tea leaf reading I received here! It really empowered my desire to want to learn more about it. Tea leaf readings seem to have reduced in commonality in the young witch community, but they had a fantastic young guy here who was trained by elders. You have to stop here and check this store out. First store we went into after parking in Salem. Plenty of herbs, herbal teas and supplies for spellcrafting. Plus- so much more! Back room full of dresses, ceiling has an assortment of witch balls, table covered in gorgeous items that make you ooh and ahh. I found a treasure right away- but thought I can stop back before returning to the car. That usually means the customer isn't coming back- but I did! The lady working was cute- she said someone else was looking at that exact item earlier! And then realized it was me and I had returned as promised! I found this wonderfully witchy apothecary on my (sigh!) last day in Salem. When I walked in, the fragrance was immediately healing and comforting. A.J. was truly encyclopedically knowledgeable, and recommended a tincture for me to try. We had an amazing conversation, and I will definitely be ordering more items from this magick store online. Nothing I hate more when a business owner floods their own Yelp page like it's their own personal instagram with images that doesn't pertains or showcase what's inside the store. We must have passed by Artemisia Botanical several times thinking it's a nursery plant store until we stopped by a tea shop around the corner. Unfortunately, they didn't have the tea we were specifically looking for and suggested this place. When we walked in, it's a spiritual store with jars of herbs filling up the entire 2 back walls. It's also a gift shop that has items that reflects the Salem's witchcraft culture and offers psychic readings. Overall Service: The lady in the store was very pleasant and packaged everything nicely for my friend. However, she wasn't knowledgeable when it came to answering questions about the products they were selling here and we had to wait for her to google the answers which we could of did it ourselves. read more

This place is amazing! My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this store back in October. We've been back there twice since, and ordered online a few more times. There is a huge variety of teas and herbs, actually two full walls of containers. All of the teas are great; black, herbal, green, mixes, etc. We are also big fans of the homemade goats milk soaps. They offer different scents throughout the year like cucumber melon, calendula sunrise, coffee scrub, etc. The soaps are amazing, and leave your skin silky smooth. I have sensitive skin and I have never had any issues with any of the scents. We've given them as gifts to family who now rave about them and beg us to order them more. They also have a large selection of incenses, essential oils, books, etc., on top of the other halloween-themed decor. Artemisia's customer service is great as well. I placed an online order after 5:00 pm on a Thursday and Saturday morning the package was sitting in my living room. I will continue to be a repeat customer of Artemisia Botanicals! read more

I love how the shops in Salem for the most part specialize in their own unique little niches, this one is definitely botanical (which seems obvious). We were greeted upon entering and offered help. They have golden seal here! I saw that golden seal helps with throat ailments on Dr. Oz. On the show he tells the audience that you can find it in any vitamin shop but the truth is they only have it in pill form and it's so expensive by the bottle! Here I was able to buy a little baggy of loose golden seal powder! I was excited to see that something I wanted to try was a part of this unique place. Love this place! I use herbs for a variety of reasons but sometimes it's really hard to find certain ones besides going online. To find not only high quality herbs for a reasonable price but also such a huge selection of them is possible here! Whether it be for culinary, medicinal or magical purposes, you can't beat what they sell. The staff is really knowledgeable and inspiring. When my fiance and I move to Salem, I am set on taking their herbalism class they offer as well. I loaded up for Yule and for some infusions I plan on making but wish I had bought even more! In my misspent youth I was the manager of a food co-op in Vermont, and I have to say this place is head and shoulders above anything I've seen in an "organic" herb/tea bulk supply section in FOREVER. The jars are well labeled with often several names (common name, alternative common names, and genus/species and perhaps varietal) and information on usage. There are reference books available on herbal medicine from several traditions, and two staff members I spoke too were helpful and knowledgeable as well as enthusiastic in sharing tips and experiences. I not only got what I came for but also some herbal tea for an aching shoulder that I didn't know would be helped by tea -- but the tea helped, and I'll be adding that blend to my home pharmacopaea! Every jar I opened (and I opened more than a few to check!) was full of fresh, vital material. The shop has every sort of paraphernalia for the herbalist or crafter, whether you are looking for a half pound of whole anise for Christmas cookies, for essential oils (very reasonably priced!) for something witchy, interested in herbal medicine, making a dream pillow, creating homemade soaps or candles or pot-pourris, looking for something to help your dog's bad breath, or a nice cuppa with no caffeine, dearie...:) They really run the gamut. I know they have a good deal of Salem witchie-kitchschie stuff too, but honestly, I didn't even look on my first visit, and barely really looked around the second time I was there. I could just live in the maybe third of the store that is for the serious herb/spice/oil/tea crafting enthusiast. Herbs, oils, apothocary supplies are the star here, and really they are all-stars! On that basis, five stars, and other folks can rate the rest of the store on whatever star basis they wish, I really couldn't care about anything else. If I had known about this place before I'd moved to Salem I'd have probably made my way up here to hit it. Better selection than Cambridge Naturals, which was my former favorite source in the Boston area. The form is asking if they accept credit cards -- I almost got caught on this one. 3.3 stars There was a time when I would have given Artemisia 10 out of 5 stars, sadly things have changed. The main good has stayed the same. Quality herbs line a wall. Everything you need for any [almost] any herbal application. Help yourself service to dry herbs and (almost) any amount you want/need. Service was always rather hands off, which I enjoyed. . .and to a certain extent it still is . . . however Hands off used to mean a staff with an encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and their uses that would say hi upon entering and offer assistance if you looked lost, or like you needed help but didn't know what to ask. That was several years ago , I went back recently and was ignored by two kids who were more interested in discussing the girl's fear of something metaphysical (I forget what it was, I just remember being ignored) They also renovated since I'd been back last, and while the interior is certainly more pleasing to the eye, it felt less like a great botanical shop and more like a cheesy Salem gift store that happens to have a wide selection of herbs. I know, everyone has to pay the bills, and Salem pays its bills with slack-jawed tourists. I don't fault them for this, but I also no longer feel like I'm walking into a world-class herbal shop anymore either. read more

I was just at the shop for the first time yesterday. They have a ton of herbs so as an herbalist I was totally excited. Sadly, whoever was attending the shop could not tell me where the herbs are sourced from. I'm working with herbs as medicine so I certainly want to know the quality of what I'm purchasing. I would discourage anyone from buying from a shop that doesn't disclose this information as it is actually now even required by the FDA. read more

For the true practitioner this is THE place to shop! What caught my eye was the walls, yes walls, full of herbs. I couldn't have gotten a better price on Dragon's Blood! They have all the tools you could need or want including clothing. All of their herbs are organic and the staff is really nice and willing to chat. I stopped in this lovely shop thanks to all the Amy Brown Fairy Divas in the windows, because I collect fairy figurines and I'm happy that the prices here are the average going price rather than inflated tourist trap prices common for some of the stores in this town. The woman working there is genuinely very friendly and is familiar with the artists' work. Not only did she have Amy Brown, but some of Jessica Galbreth and my favorite, Nene Thomas. Large jars lined the walls with every herb imaginable and there were cute trinkets and talismans everywhere. Two friends and I got 15 minute tarot card readings here this past weekend. The reader was fantastic; he did a great job and really gave each of us the full 15 minute reading. However, the scheduling was not great - the person we booked with tried to give each of us a ten minute slot, which we pointed out and she fixed. However, when we returned a few hours later for our appointment, it turns out she had been doing this all day, so they were running at least forty five minutes behind. We asked to be moved a couple hours later, so we could eat. When we came back, we still had to wait 20 minutes. I think another problem is they're scheduling each person back to back with absolutely no time for the reader to bring people back/explain the process/get the deck ready. Either the readings need to be shortened by a few minutes (though they're already $35), or they just need to add in a five minute buffer. But still three stars because the reader was fantastic even though he clearly hadn't had a minute off for hours. read more

I had a fun time here. Walked in, didn't have any expectations. It's cute. Loved all the variety of teas and herbs. They have a little are for some beautiful brooms. The handles are amazing, twisted, polished wood. They have little cauldrons which I found adorable. Nice crystals. Good variety of oils and incense. I was walking out when I saw that they did tea readings. Never had one so I inquired about it. I was told to hold a tray, then I could sip a little bit of the tea. She swirled it around and turned it upside down. I then shuffled some tarot cards. I didn't say anything. She started telling me some deep stuff. Never asked me in depth questions but she did get a lot of stuff right. Gotta wait for the future to see if she's right about what she saw in my tea leaves. Hope for the best I say! It was entertaining. I was in Salem for just a little bit, in Boston for business, so I felt this was a nice little place to spend some time. Going back to pick up the little cauldron for my mom. Never doing business with this store again! Terry is an absolute jerk Who is always in patient towards me and other customers! I have no issues with the products themselves but I came in here a few days ago and I felt like I was being rushed out of the store. They apparently offer psychic readings which is an absolute crock because they want you to call a week ahead of time so that they can get an astrological chart set up for you. They probably pull all of this junk from the Internet and it is unauthentic. Anytime Anybody wants an astrological reading or forecast or chart if somebody truly has a gift they will do it right there not have you wait a week. They need way better management. Not going to shed a tear over this I have plenty of other well respected businesses in Salem I do plenty of business with and so happy to say this place sucks all because of customer service! read more

Two thirds of the store, (the crystals, brooms, fortune telling, etc, etc) doesn't hold any interest to me whatsoever. No judgement on those who go for that kind of thing, I just have no way of knowing whether this place is a good deal for them. THAT SAID. The one third that interests me greatly is what keeps me coming back. Two walls brimming with almost every herb and spice I could want, most of fine quality, many of them organic, and all of them highly affordable. This place has been a godsend for me when experimenting with cooking and making my own liqueurs and infused spirits. I'd have been paying through the nose at some place in Cambridge or on the internet if it weren't for these fine folks. I also like making use of essential oils in a variety of ways, and their shelf of oils contains almost anything I'd think to use, and also at a very reasonable price to boot. read more

I was so excited to have found all the oils I needed to make my own face, neck and hands anti aging formulations and also bought an amazing incense (warm and sensual patchouli) that is making my home smell like heaven!! This is my new favorite place in Salem. I went for the first time yesterday and I could have spent hours there. I was with some friends exploring the city, and this place is a must see. I am an avid tea drinker and was so impressed by their selection of loose leaf teas. I bought three different kinds, an ounce of each, for less than $10! And the tea is delicious. They also carry a wide range of herbs at affordable prices. The woman working was so helpful and offered to weigh out my tea while I continued to browse. They also carry a nice selection of pagan items and tools. I picked up some gold and silver candles. I was on a bit of a budget and some of my friends wanted to keep exploring the city, but I really could have spent hours looking at everything. A must see place if you're in Salem.
