Course is OK. It's ridiculous what they charge! 200 bucks for a round of golf is just short of gouging. I want something very plush for that cost. Nice layout but fairways had many bare spots. The staff was just ok and not really going out of their way for you but not rude. read more

At this price point, would expect better. Course had multiple different types of sand in the bunkers. Par 3 tee boxes had so many divots and no sand to fill them in. Greens had some rough spots. Not a bad course but better value elsewhere read more

I played the Arthur Hills Course in a twosome in February. I loved it! I am a bogey golfer at best, and this course was just the kind of low country "resort style" course I hoped for when I booked it. It winds through trees and along and over waterways, and I think it's visually very appealing. Make no mistake, it is not an easy course, especially the back nine which ramps up the difficulty considerably with more water and some tight fairways. But I never felt overwhelmed by the difficulty. The course itself was in very good shape. Palmetto Dunes is a first class resort overall, and the staff at the Hills Course were friendly and efficient. I would play again without hesitation. This course has the best layout I have played in a long time. Really well designed. A shot maker's course. Nearly all the holes are memorable. I want to play the course again. The greens and bunkers were in good shape. The other comments about the fairways not being plush accurate true, but I view this as a minor point. read more

Played Arthur Hills @ Palmetto Dunes today with my two son in laws and my brother in law today. The course was in good shape but the staff from the attended checking us in to the cart attended and the ranger were all very rude and made our day very uncomfortable. For the price 190.00 per player we all thought the staff would have been a lot more friendly. read more

I was looking forward to playing this course, as I have every time I've played a course on Hilton Head. My partner and I were disappointed. The outside of the clubhouse looked alright--a building from the 70s that had been well kept, but the facilities inside needed to be updated. More importantly, the course needed some work. Compared to a standard municipal course, it was in fine shape, but a muni will charge you $60-70 per round compared to $140 per round here. There were dead spots on the greens and it just generally needed some more care. In terms of playing the course, I'd tell you that the greens are small, even on holes you're hitting them from quite a distance. Over all, the course was in alright shape, but not worth the money. read more

This is one of three golf courses at this resort. Rolling fairways and large mounds on the edges of the fairways make this a distinctive Author Hills golf course. I forgot to mention 10 of the eighteen holes have water in play! The course plays from 5000 yards to 6651 yards and will definitely challenge your skills and patience. Positives first. Course has a nice layout with a mixture of very challenging holes and some easier ones if you hit the ball straight. Bunkers are in decent shape with even layers of sand. The rest of the story. Staff is not helpful nor customer friendly. When we paid, they did not mention irrigation install status until we asked. Even then, vague description of sod and some ground under repair. Not a big deal. Starter, when we rolled up told us they changed our tee time. In short said, there was a non-existent foursome in front of us. Then they said we would be paired up with a non existent two some. When we asked him to explain, he said we were mistaken somehow even though we showed him our reservation. We ended up teeing off late but caught up quickly. Now for the ranger, he asked us later in round to keep up with the foursome in front of us even though we waited the whole round. He later returned to tell us the foursome was on time and we were playing quickly as a twosome and we needed to understand we were playing fast. Figure that one out. The foursome in front of us laughed at the ranger too as they waited on the group in front of them. By the way our round was 4 hours and fifteen minutes which was fine with us as a twosome. Overall, staff needs to be trained better on the fact they need be of service and just responding to members complaints. The starter needs to be replaced or moved to another job. The best staff were the cart guys at end of round. There are better golf courses to play for this amount of money. read more

I absolutely enjoyed my experience at the Arthur Hills Golf course. I wanted to introduce my cousin to golf while vacationing on Hilton Head Island. I just went to Arthur Hills prior to my Saturday Tee time to hit balls and practice. The cart attendant greeted me with "what time are playing" I answered with" I'm just hitting ball" He turned the cart around and raced to the driving range to make sure any partial buckets where not available when I arrived. Clearly this course is more interested in fleecing you rather then your Golf experience. I have made other arrangements for a tee time. read more

I had an extra day to golf on my vacation. Decided to check out the Arthur Hills course because I had heard great things from my father and saw it was listed as a must play at one point. Well, I was really disappointed. They seem to have let this course go. One thing I ALWAYS look for when I judge a course is the edges of bunkers. It's a pretty good indicator of effort. If there are clean crisp edges, you know they put effort into it. This course did not have clean edges and the greens were pretty worn out in spots. However, I also judge courses based off of the price band they are put into. For instance, if it's a typical course with a price of 60-75 bucks for 18 holes, I am less likely to dock stars for imperfections. But, this place was in the 150 price range. A price like that comes with a higher expectation. I mean, I have played some phenomenal courses that the PGA stops on and they are in that range. I mean, Torrey Pines is only like 50 bucks more and it's perfect in every way. I feel this course would be appropriately priced around 60-70 bucks. But at 150..... 2 stars. read more

I don't ever review but have to put this out there. Course itself is ok, say 3 stars for just course (layout and conditions). Put us out as a twosome on the front nine which played slow even behind another twosome. Make the turn and now there's a 5 some teeing off on 10. They say sorry we already let 2 other groups play through. Needless to say we waited on every shot, 5 plus hour round, not a ranger to be found on the course on a Friday afternoon except for someone on a par 3 on the front selling charity raffle tickets. Nobody even around at end of the round to talk to about it except cart barn attendant, who was great. My first time in Hilton Head but there has to be much better golf experiences than this. read more

I've played this course in the past and was worth the price of admission. This time some problems. The tee boxes need work, and some greens looked like a fungus was a problem. This is in my opinion the most difficult of the three palmetto dunes courses. Which is not a bad thing at all. The staff is very friendly and ready to help you out with anything you may need. The course is kept in very good condition especially for the amount of play it gets. If you're in Hilton Head in a golf trip this is one that you won't regret adding to your list of stops. read more

The fairways are beautiful however the greens could use some love. Enjoyed the course, not the people. While we were greeted and farewelled well, everyone in between could have used a lesson in smiling and being pleasant (the woman in the pro shop was delightful)! And then there is the false advertising...they indicate that they have Segways as golf carts...we were soo excited! Alas, when we asked for them, we were told we had to have called in advance and they only had 3 for 3 golf courses..seriously? There was no mention of this any where on the website and the single reason we wanted to golf here. At $105 a round, the management nickels and dimes you! Even less fancy courses have cold bottled water in their coolers! The management is not friendly, exhibiting a pretty much a do it yourself attitude. While the course is fun, and the back nine is full of water and heartache, it's not worth the money. read more

A group of 6 of us golfed here several times last week. The course is in excellent condition. The fairways and greens are in tip top shape as if they were in May shape not late winter. This is a challenging course even a good golfer and especially for the average golfer. However it is not overly difficult and is my favorite course here. The staff here Is excellent. We have been coming to HH for over 30 years. Palmetto Dunes has always been a nice place with great golf courses and today, the golf course was fine! However, other than the pro, the rest of the staff was very unconcerned!! All I have to say is wow. If you see a guy with black and partially gray hair he is disgusting to customers and went as far as cursing. The greens are like a beach and it's really impossible to putt because of how little this course is taken care of. If we're being honest the employees are more disgusting than the customers and we purchased 12 beers for $100. This place is a joke and there's 20 better courses on the island. Opening this golf course was a debacle and I wouldn't be surprised if their employees are jobless within a month. read more

Great staff and facility, I go every winter for a week in January. With over seeding the course it seems like the north east. It's a home away from home. Mark and the proshop staff always make my family feel welcome. Can't wait to see what changes occur in 2020. read more

I have been coming down to Hilton head for the last six years and have stayed in Palmetto dunes for three of those. I have played the Arthur Hills course many times and the staff there is very friendly and professional! In particular is one of the professionals, Edward Sires, had been very accommodating and I chose to take a private lesson with him. I am a six handicap but I've seen him teach at all levels but from a personal standpoint he is extremely knowledgeable and i was very comfortable with him analyzing my swing and making adjustments that made my game that much better and I think him very much for that! There is no question in my mind that anyone at any level of golf would benefit immensely when working with Ed from his friendliness and passion to help improve and enjoy the game that much more! read more
