4th of July Pre booked online So hubby is so excited with living here that he arranges for us to go out on a two person boat. Being it is a holiday we get there early and have breakfast within walking distance so we can get parking. Must have been our lucky day as we got the best parking space in the lot. We were instructed to arrive 45 minutes before the tour. Since we were there and checked in early as was the other group of six we left actually a few minutes early. The weather was perfect and we had on plenty of sunscreen. JD led the boats to different spots on the island so that we were able to see Dolphins. I was surprised that in the middle of the day that we were able to see so many. JD was kind and took pictures and sent them to everyone through What's App. What a great way to spend the day as well learn the island. The entire length of the trip was 2 1/2 hours. We set out on our mini-catamaran tour at 8:30 on a warm, sunny morning. Captain Nick gave us a primer on how to operate the 2-seater craft, a light and able CraigCat, before we shoved off to troll the Intercoastal in search of adventure. Once we were out on the water, he stopped and gathered us a few times along the way to share local history, lore and legend; but the real fun here is in dancing along the water in something that looks like a boat and a jet-ski had a baby. A year ago with took this same tour with Bluewater Adventure and had a fantastic time with our adult son and oh so cool teen nephew. We had a thrilling time then and our son was anxious to go again with his girlfriend and so were we because we loved it last year. I wasn't surprised to see there is a copycat tour when reading web reviews and let me share that people were confused thinking they were going back to Bluewater and had a bad experience. Don't make that mistake! We took our tour with Bailey on what turned out to be the best day of the week. My husband worried it would be just the same as last year but nope! The Capt is a local and we understand all of the guide ps with Bluewater are local to the area with experience in the gorgeous waterways we toured. Bailey gave us a great tour and shared all sorts of local lore and facts about the islands, the dolphins (we saw more than I could count and they were right up near us. Beautiful!) we also stopped to see a big (school? Pod?) of jelly fish surrounding us. Great fun! Worth every penny it costs which is a bargain when you consider you have your own boats for two and your driving and having the time of your life! This was the first time I've ever been on a catamaran and the experience couldn't have been better -- they clearly explained everything we needed to know about driving the vessel to keeping us safe out on the water and the crew was fun and happy to be there! We got to explore, learn and see so much -- a few times we stopped and huddled as a group to hear about the history of Hilton Head and Daufuskie and one of those times we were lucky enough to have dolphins swim right by us which was so cool! Our family had a great two hours on the cycle boat. Our captains, Brian and Nick, had ice in the coolers for our BYOB "adult beverages." You really don't have to cycle at all (The boat has a motor); you are there to have a good time and see beautiful scenery. We saw dolphins and a manta ray and beautiful homes on our 2 hour cruise. The boat actually had a bathroom on it which was a pleasant surprise. The boat was exceptionally clean and a great time was had by all. read more

This tour is well worth the money if you are comfortable piloting your own vessel. We enjoyed Matt as our guide and he clearly explained instructions, kept a good pace for each area we went through and shared very interesting information during the tour. And we felt we had plenty of time out on the water. The little catamarans are fairly simple to learn, but if you are unfamiliar with boating, it can take a bit to get used to coordinating the controls and how the boats maneuver. Once you get the hang of it, it's really fun to be out on the water in one of these! read more

Craigcat's are the latest and greatest adventure we have gone on and this company does a great job with the tour!! My mom and I rented two spots on the 2.5 hour craigcat tour with Tom as or tour guide/captain. He was extremely personable, outgoing, knowledgeable and vocal throughout the entirety of the tour. We started off going through detailed safety measures, use of the craigcats, waterways and regulations and an overview of the tour. The boats were tricky to get the hang of for the first 5 minutes or so and after that we were all pros. Tom said we were one of the best tours he's had with no driving issues. He took us around the waterways to see the Sea Pines lighthouse, Daufuskie Islands lighthouse, wildlife, etc. He gave us history lessons at each stop and shared some fun facts from his own life experiences in the waterways. We learned a lot and found it most enjoyable and fun! We got to see dolphins up close, osprey, and lots of other birds. It was a more expensive tour for two but we would definitely go back and do it again; it was well worth it! read more

...and here I thought I wasn't a CAT person! Bailey took six adults and six teens on an adventure that the kids are still talking about. Forget about how fun the boats alone are...Bailey gave us clear instructions on use and made sure that even our youngest driver was comfortable on the water. Beyond that, Bailey made sure to point out different wildlife, track dolphins with us, tour the island highlights and took SO many great photos that he shared after our day. We had so much fun with our guide, Bailey, today. The tour took us around different parts of the island to explore all the flora and fauna. The two and a half hour adventure was worth every penny, and it was quite thrilling to be out zipping on the water. One manatee, two dolphins, a sting ray mating ritual, and a plethora of other things to be seen were observed. Bailey took tons of pictures of our ride, even us in front of the famed lighthouse and promised to email them in about a week. He was really knowledgeable about the area, and I could tell he genuinely loved guiding us. Recommendations: wear sunscreen, don't wear a hat unless it has a cinch to keep in on your head, bring a towel, wear water shoes, wear sunglasses--it's bright out on the water! read more

This craigcat boat tour was right up there with the most fun trips my husband and I have taken. The boats were really fun to drive and ride in. Bailey, our captain, was very knowledgeable and had a lot of personal experience with local areas (being a life-long resident of the area) which he relayed in his telling of the history of various spots we passed on the tour. He took pictures throughout the tour and emailed them within a few days. That was a very nice touch! We saw dolphins in multiple places, and got to see their stranding feeding process, which Bailey explained. He pointed them out, had us stop so we could see them, and took some great pictures. This was an incredibly fun experience. Tom, our expert guide, was great. He kept us on time but allowed plenty of time to enjoy the areas we wanted. He was knowledgeable, experienced, & friendly. The activity itself is great because 2 people can share a catamaran, so this is good for families to have shared experiences. You barely get wet. The 2.5 hour trip takes you through swamp, open water, & local waterways. We saw dolphins, other sealife, plants, birds & alligators. Tom also pointed out the history of some of the islands, lighthouses & homes along the way. The cataraman is easy to maneuver. Much more fun & easier to use than jet skis. The price was reasonable. I am a grandfather who paid over $600. for my son, his wife and my two grand children to take this boat ride. I AM NOT a former employee and have no connection to either company except as a customer. My original review, 4/8/2018, was posted on TripAdvisor under the name Backwater Adventure which is the name of the company on Amelia Island and now Hilton Head. When I realized my mistake I took down the post, not TripAdvisor. I could not find Bluewater Adventure under TripAdvisor to write a review. Finally located Bluewater listed under Yelp and wrote my 4/8/2018 review. Based on past Bluewater reviews, future customers chances of having a good experience appear very high. Ours was not. Tom was a great guide. We stopped a few times as he pointed out some very interesting sites and history, which made the trip even more enjoyable. The catamarans were a blast to drive and easy to learn. Plan to get a bit wet if the water gets a little rough, but there are plenty of places to enjoy a smooth ride at speed and have a blast. They also provide a small cooler with cold bottled water for each boat. We saw dolphins just a few feet away and even some sharks feeding nearby. You could see the people crowded together on the dolphin watching tours pointing at us excitedly, wishing they were us! We had a chance to have fun with the boats and get some great pictures. My entire family had a blast, and my 18 y/o son said it was one of the most fun and memorable experiences of any of our vacations. I highly recommend the Backwater Adventures catamaran tour; it was worth the money for the excitement and the family memories. read more
