We went here to learn our first dance for our wedding and could not have been more thrilled with the results. We had Taya as our instructor and learned some Rhumba dances. They are so friendly at this studio and accommodating. We could not recommend this place enough to learning to dance and honing your dance floor skills. I could have written a review after leaving, but writing reviews RIGHT after a horrible experience isn't the greatest for some as it would then become a reactive/emotional based review, where this 2 star probably would have been a 1. Lots of people in there, but we were still able to use the music they were using to learn salsa steps. We realized pretty early on that it wasn't for us. After class we were put in a room with a sales person and the instructor. The instructor stayed in there the whole time while the sales person tried getting us to put some sort of down payment since it was the last day of their sale price. The packages were way too expensive so we kindly declined and thanked them for the lesson. The sales pressure that was put on us was crazy. It's like "no" was not accepted even after making it intentionally awkward for the hopes that they would just accept the respectful decline. We walked out surprised at their sales tactics. read more

Eddie is an incredible dance instructor! He made our father-daughter dance lessons such a fun and memorable experience. He's patient, encouraging, and really knows how to break things down so even complete beginners like my dad can feel confident and enjoy the process. What works: most of the teachers are highly skilled and attentive. It's a great atmosphere, safe, and fun. I ve been participating for 3 years. The owner(s) are problematic- many students have been burned. Eg many extra events are hundreds to thousands of dollars and when you prepay for an event you are 100% liable, despite illness or catastrophe. I am not even sure how you insure yourself. I signed up for an introductory lesson July of 2023 with the goal of being able to dance with anybody to anything and almost a year and a half later, I have fallen in love with not only dance, but the community that I've been welcomed into. The studio, from the students to the staff have always been welcoming and warm. I've been lucky to have been able to work with many teachers who genuinely care about me as a person as well as my dance goals. My primary teacher, Jason, takes the time to find out where I want my dance journey to go and has helped map out lesson plans and goals to confidently get me there. very disappointed with this studio. my fiancé and i are getting married later this year. was so excited to take lessons and had a coupon i was holding onto for almost a year. my fiancé and i take our intro lesson and when it came time to sign up, they would not honor the coupon. when the studio was handing out the coupons at the art and wine festival, i made a point of asking if the coupon would be valid as we wouldn't be taking lessons until the following spring and was told yes. instead of working with me, was told they would not honor the offer, threw away the coupon, so we walked out. would rather pay double at another studio. read more

Coming to this studio to dance feels like coming home. The staff is friendly and outgoing. The pros all have incredible dance skills and are eager to pass them to their students. Every one, students and teachers alike are encouraging and thrilled to help out each other. ** Update: this business made one attempt to call me after posting the review below calling me a liar. Their pricing is not online so it was hard for me to find the paperwork but I did dig it up. I did make an error on the cost per lesson. They are around $140-$160 a class. Again this is for a 45 minute lesson which a portion of that time is spent talking through previous lessons and going through sales materials at the end of the lesson. I'd argue we spent 30-35 minutes per lesson actually dancing. The business owner also calls out the rave reviews below. There are only 28 reviews for this business with the oldest being from 7+ years ago. My guess is anytime someone puts a mediocre review on here the business does it's best to rectify the situation and calls the previous clients. That then results in them taking down the review. I seldomly write reviews that are less than 5 stars. I gave this business 3 stars as the service provided was ok but not great for the value/cost associated with it. As a bride there are a lot of expenses associate with the cost of getting married and not a lot of clarity on the internet around cost and transparency. If I had seen a review like mine as a bride I may have paused or even looked at different dance options considering the price for this service. I wrote this review to hopefully help future brides understand what services are provided at Arthur Murray so that they could make a choice best for them and their fiancé. ************************************************* My fiancé and I purchased a 3 pack of lessons at the Burlingame Art and Wine festival a few years ago. It was around $100 which we thought was an amazing deal. We had started planning our wedding and thought it would be nice to have some moves to showcase during our first dance. Months had passed since we purchased it and Arthur Murray did a great job frequently calling us to get us in for lessons. Fast forward to our first lesson we were shown around the studio... even shown the parking garage and then started our 45 minute lesson. The tour we were given cut into our practice time which I felt was fine considering we had decided on the way there that we'd probably buy more classes. At the end of our first lesson we were presented with pricing for more lessons in a somewhat sales-y way. Considering we didn't get a ton out of our short first lesson and the pricing was around $200-$300 for each additional 45 minute lesson we decided to noodle on it. On our second practice we did more of the same box step and learned 2-3 tricks but not a dance. Better but still went by rather fast and didn't feel like a ton of value was added. Again at the end of our lesson we were approached about buying more classes. It felt pushy and that they were a little irritated in our lack of commitment. At our third and final lesson same thing. We practiced a few of the steps we had learned previously and tried to make a routine quickly within the short time of the class. We decided not to spend the $1400 to get additional lessons and ended up watching YouTube videos instead that were just as helpful as the lessons we had. I think if we had visited this more casually for a hobby or for fun we would have maybe had different feelings. There were a lot of regulars in there during our three visits who looked to be getting a lot out of their lessons. Unfortunately not the best experience for us but not a total bust. If the pricing weren't so aggressive I think we may have stuck with it but the value just wasn't matching the cost. read more

We were recommended here by a friend to take lessons for our first dance for our wedding. My husband and I were looking for an instructor who could make us feel confident and comfortable on the dance floor, and we definitely found that in our instructor, Sarafina. My husband was particularly nervous for our first dance. Sarafina was very patient, warm, and the perfect instructor for us. We loved her easy-to-remember analogies and fun sayings to help us remember certain moves. She made sure to get our feedback on everything, from the way she cut the song, to where we would insert our first dance during the reception, and what type of moves we wanted incorporated in our dance that would make the most visual impact for photos and video. My husband and I signed up with the Millbrae studio in late January 2023. Our goal was to learn a few dances so that we could be the couple to watch at wedding receptions and dinner dances. Four months later I can tell you that our expectations have been met and gone beyond. The entire team at the Millbrae studio is amazing! We are warmly greeted by everyone when we walk through the door. We feel that we are among friends who just happen to be the very best dance instructors. Having had the pleasure of working with most of the instructors there, I can say they are all consummate professionals who are personable and fun to be around. It was my first time ever taking dance lessons. My fiance and I were taking them for our first dance at our wedding. I went from having two left feet to being able to complete a full dance with confidence! Sarafina is an amazing and fun instructor. She helped us create a special dance for us from scratch. She took the time to understand and help each one of us through each step. They also have group nights where you can come and learn new dances with a bunch of people. It's super fun! My fiance and I did a few of those and we loved it each time! We also participated in a group event called the Newsom Twosome where you can demonstrate your dance with the group. The best dance school and teachers!! Everyone is so nice and make you feel like family

I've always loved dancing! More freestyle and weird but I love the gracefulness of ballroom dancing. I paid the the $1200 for 10 sessions (super expensive) but I LOVED every session. I lee armed to tango, quick step, waltz, fox trot, salsa, cha cha and rhumba. My favorite was the tango. I couldn't stop making "tango face"! My instructor, Mike, was awesome. He was patient with me and all my questions. He was such a great lead. My main goal was really to learn how to follow a lead (i.e. Whoever I was dancing with). I believe I was able to do that in 10 session. I would have loved to sing up for another set but it was a one time gift to myself and I can't reasonably spend another $1K+ on dancing. I had to drop a star for the pricing. It's super expensive. read more

I have been dancing at this studio for close to 2 months now. My instructors are very nice and encouraging. They have a systematic way of tracking progress and are dedicated to you learning. I would encourage signing up for private lessons and letting the group classes (which happen everyday) and parties (Tuesdays and Thursdays) support the instruction. Personally, be prepared to spend some money but you will certainly get your money's worth. I wish they'd offer better deals on lesson bundles. You get what you pay for in life, and Arthur Murray is no different. We took advantage of the complimentary dance consult/lesson for our first dance at our wedding. We were partnered with Rhenell as our instructor. We fell in love with her enthusiastic, humorous, edgy style and she's incredibly talented just like all the instructors at Arthur Murray. In fact, whenever you enter the studio you're greeted with smiles by the instructors and by the owners (Jenny and CJ). It's a great atmosphere. The way it works for your wedding package is you buy a package of 5 or 10 private couple lessons. Each lesson runs 45 minutes and the instructors start ON TIME so don't be late. Your instructor gives you focused attention for the whole session and works on your goals. You also can go to as many of the group night classes as you want since that's included in your package. In our case, we wanted a choreographed first dance for our wedding so we ended up buying the 10-series package then buying an additional 4 pro-rated classes once the first series expired because we weren't where we wanted to be. Also, we weren't practicing on our own or taking advantage of group classes so this was good motivation to hone up on our skills leading up to our wedding. During your lesson, there will be other private lessons occurring simultaneously. That means the instructor might set some music for you, but the songs abruptly switch to a different song because that's what the other instructor wanted for his/her students. You learn to listen to the instructor instead of the music when this happens so it's not as big of a deal as it sounds (ha...). If you want to avoid the chances of this happening, try to schedule for earlier in the day. Also, what do the instructors do when they're not teaching? They're dancing! They're working on their skills. They never just lounge around. They're teaching each other. They're having fun! They're amazing to watch. So what's the cost? It's about $130-$140+ per private lesson based on which package you choose. Yes, it's costly, but you'll learn a lot, get custom instruction and you really should take advantage of the group classes, unlike us. This really is worth your while if you want a beautiful first dance, or just want to learn awesome dance floor skills. We were beginners. After the series was over, we were offered a complimentary class. It runs for 30 minutes instead of the usual 45 and starts reviewing other dance types. Then you're offered package options similarly priced to the wedding dance package. We declined, and they weren't pushy. We just have to allocate our money towards different purposes. I can't recommend Rhenell and Arthur Muray enough. Cough up the change and take lessons here. It's convenient with free parking and walking distance to the BART, the instructors are incredible, and you'll have fun while looking amazing. read more

If you want someone who cares about what you want and how you'll do, Arthur Murray won't be there for you. They're very corporate. Get in, get out, so they can get the our money. Our lessons ended months before our wedding but because we decided not to pay for anymore lessons, they never checked in to see how we did. They made us a short little dance but never really asked if we liked it but just taught it during our lessons and used up all the lessons that we had to buy more. It's very unfortunate because we spent A LOT of money to get it perfect for our big day but it was a let down. My husband and I picked Arthur Murray because they were mentioned in the movie "Dirty Dancing". Our first dance song was "I've had" The Time of Our Lives. Our first meet and greet session was free and they were very quick to get us to buy lessons. We caved in because 1. We wanted to get one more things knocked off our list 2. They said we can come to their dance classes as long as we have lessons. Emma was our instructor and she was wonderful. The dance they created for us was short and easy given our "skills" level which we both were fast learners and coordinated. Our wedding was November 19th 2019 and we started the process in March to get more practices in. We did a lesson almost every week and pretty much finished our package in later April. We bought 2 packages. They would end our lesson 10 min early to up sell us and we said we'll come back closer to the wedding date. They never checked in to see how we're doing. But the AM Millbrae Dance Studio started lessons and dance events using zoom, and I've found it to be an excellent way of continuing both to learn and to practice dance. My husband and I found Arthur Murray Dance studio through family recommending we try them out for wedding dance lessons. We were getting married in August of 2019 and went to a first free class in March. We met our instructor named Emma and she was really nice and great at teaching the basics. We are both beginners in dancing so we weren't sure what to expect. We met with Emma 3-4 times before our August wedding date to learn our first dance song. Every time we went we had a blast learning new steps and trying to perfect our dance! Emma was so helpful and patient with us. Another great thing about taking classes here is you can go to the open dance nights in the evening. We tried one out and spent two hours learning all these new dances: swing, tango, waltz etc. We had no idea what we were doing but it was so fun!!
