When the covid-19 lockdown and shelter-in-place started, I wondered how and where I could dance. But the AM Millbrae Dance Studio started lessons and dance events using zoom, and I've found it to be an excellent way of continuing both to learn and to practice dance. The instructors are enthusiastic and creative, fun to dance with, and have done an excellent job of teaching dance via video. My husband and I found Arthur Murray Dance studio through family recommending we try them out for wedding dance lessons. We were getting married in August of 2019 and went to a first free class in March. We met our instructor named Emma and she was really nice and great at teaching the basics. We are both beginners in dancing so we weren't sure what to expect. We met with Emma 3-4 times before our August wedding date to learn our first dance song. Every time we went we had a blast learning new steps and trying to perfect our dance! Emma was so helpful and patient with us. Another great thing about taking classes here is you can go to the open dance nights in the evening. We tried one out and spent two hours learning all these new dances: swing, tango, waltz etc. We had no idea what we were doing but it was so fun!! Our wedding dance in August turned out just as we hoped it would. It was so nice to have a choreographed first dance to show off to our family and friends. Being a teenager in the 70's... the only "dancing" I was familiar with was bouncing around to rock'n'roll... ballroom dancing (waltz, rumba, tango, foxtrot, etc...) were not in my purview at all... and I consistently put off my wife's requests to take her dancing for 20+ years. And then she noticed the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Milbrae and I couldn't put it off any longer. We had our free lesson and then signed up for more. Paolo, our dance instructor, has been great... patient while gently pushing us to be better dancers... After just a few lessons, I started asking myself... why did I put this off so long. I have only been attending this studio for almost four months! No words can describe how much joy, encouragement, motivation, and DANCE I have gained in this short amount of time. If you read some of the other reviews, in regards with this studio, then you will see how many positive reviews you will encounter. It is not just the dancing that keeps making want to go back and dance, but the wonderful, funny, charismatic and professional staff that keeps me wanting to keep learning more and more! All of the lessons (whether they are private or not) run for 45 mins and are always ON SCHEDULE. So try not to be late to them. Sometimes the studio have workshops at 7:30pm that are taught by real world-class professionals and are always informative, fun, and (sometimes) can get you sweating! On Tuesdays and Fridays they have what they call "Demo Day & Dance Party" which you get to demo a dance that the group class are taught on that day. Later, they have a 45 minute party where you get to practice what you have learned and apply it among your professors and dance classmates. This can really help you practice social dance! The Arthur Murray facilities not only can help you with your dancing, but they can help you in accommodating to your dancing needs. If you feel rusty in your waltz or other smooth dances, then you can mention them to the staff and they will get right on it. If you feel that your salsa or mambo may need some tuning, they will help you right away. Lastly, the people, setting, and live and joyous environment can really help in getting your mind away from the negativity/stress that may occur in your daily lives. You will sure walk out with a far better attitude! Sure, it may be a bit pricey, but if you have the dedication to attend the group classes, take the private lessons, and still keep that hunger to try and learn something new (and exciting), then this will be an investment that will be worth, not only in your social skills, but in your mental (and physical body) as well! They are both competitive dancers and professional coaches and judges themselves which really adds to their credibility as instructors. Any studio can claim to teach a dance class but the difference with Arthur Murray Millbrae is that instructors really know how to teach. They are there to meet your dance needs. The customer service that this studio offers is 5 star. Student's come first. The owners care about who you are as a person and will do whatever possible to help you succeed. I also need to say that the classes and parties are fun. Not only will you learn to dance well but you will have a good time and meet great people. You will laugh a lot. I also have to comment about the physicality of this studio. This is a beautiful facility. It is brand new and one of the nicest dance studios I have ever seen. It is state of the art. It is large enough to have group classes and private lessons going on at the same time. The location is perfect. There is a lot of parking and it is near public transportation. Love this dance studio!!! The instructors are very courteous and professional, and the classes are tons of fun. I have been going since they opened. It is a great workout, and it is so much more fun than going to the gym. ( I can wear high heels now. I guess dancing made my feet stronger!) Also, I love when the instructors dance for us. Making the impossible possible. After asking my husband to take a ballroom dance class together for more than 20 years, we finally did it. We were looking for a place that is professional and will let us proceed at our own pace. Hard to put a 50+ years old beginner with young active folks. We love them but we won t be able to keep up their pace. If you are reluctant to do this, you should give yourself a chance and try this one. My husband said to me now that he is glad we did it. Everybody at the dance studio is friendly and always excited to see you and very encouraging, not just the other instructors but the other dance students too. It's an amazing place to spend time and learn to dance. Dancing at Arthur Murray with my wife has been one of the best decisions we've made together. We started with some introductory lessons for our first dance at our wedding. I was skeptical before we went, since I was the kind of person that would stand on the side at events with dancing, but she convinced me. I was so wrong; I was hooked after our first visit, and our first dance was great. After a short break, we've been dancing ever since! We like to tell people that it's excercise, date night, and couple's therapy for us all in one. For many years, I have always wanted to take private dance lessons. Not only have I taken lessons, but I have been a student at Arthur Murray Millbrae for one year now. It's something I can check off my bucket list, but it's also been one of the best investments I have made for myself. The location is ideal but more importantly, the dancing I continue to learn and enjoy, and the community I am a part of, have been a huge reason as to why I love coming here. My amazing instructor Tyler continues to challenge me daily. In fact, all of the instructors do. Who would have ever thought I could learn to do the waltz or tango, and really fall in love with ballroom dancing?! The owners, CJ and Jenny take great pride in the classes and activities held at their studio and only staff the best teachers in the Peninsula. I absolutely LOVE this dance studio!! It has always been a Bucket List item of mine to be able to ballroom dance and thanks to Manny, Rob, Krystal, Maritza, Ronelle, Jenny and CJ, after only 6 lessons, my husband and I are able to Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Swing and Argentine Tango!!! The entire Crew is so fun and amazingly nice!! They greet you with such enthusiasm and smiles....makes a hard day at the office fade away as soon as you walk through the doors!! OK, a year and a half later and I am still learning at this incredible studio! My dance skills are increasing as are my social skills. I hadn't been a student of any kind for many years and so to continue to want to drive almost an hour and a half (round trip) to be there, multiple times a week was not something I would have ever expected. I love this dance studio! I never danced any ballroom dances before... but after my first [free] lesson, I was hooked. I've been going there for almost 3 months, religiously. I've learned a lot and enjoyed every single class! All the instructors are fantastic: very knowledgeable, super friendly and VERY patient! The students are great too! The atmosphere is very professional but very relaxed. I always feel very welcome and safe. There are now so many dances that I enjoy that is hard to pick a favorite one, so I have long list: salsa, rumba, waltz, hustle, swing, cha cha, bachata... There is always something new and many events to enjoy. Practice parties and groups classes are a great way to relax for me. I thought I was just looking for dance lessons. Specifically for one type of dance, swing. I have always wanted to learn to ballroom dance but I was so busy taking care of everybody else I never found the time. I had recently lost 60lbs and finally got up the nerve to go to a free lesson. That was four months ago. Not only have I learned the one dance I was looking for but have gained the self-esteem and confidence I had lost ten years ago. The students at this studio are very supportive of one another and friendships are formed here that you know will last a lifetime. I now know multiple dances and have performed in an event. The true treasures within the studio are the instructors. This has to be the funniest, most talented group of people I have ever met. We are continually laughing as we are learning. A friend once asked me to fill in the blank "in my next life I will _______" and my response was DANCE! In January of this year my friend Diana asked me to be her guest at a class and I have been hooked ever since. I never thought I could learn to dance in my 50's but my teacher Rob and the owners CJ and Jenny and all of the teachers at Arthur Murray Millbrae make it so much fun. The group lessons are a blast and the private lessons make you feel like you are the only student they have. It is a great way to forget about a long stressful work day and go home feeling energized and happy.
