Unpleasant and sketchy. I called because their website advertises an open house to see the classes. I was told to show up and I cancelled other plans because this sounded fun. I drove 30 mins and when I showed up the Manager came to tell sell me an introduction package and although they had the open house blocked me from joining. It was so embarrassing, humiliating and tricky. Do people really let themselves be tricked like this by Arthur Murray? She seemed to have practice selling as she did not seem concerned at all about the false advertising. read more

Buyer beware: It takes Arthur Murray Dance Studio forever to refund you unused classes, if ever... My husband and I purchased a dance package from Arthur Murray in August 2022. We were told that we could cancel the classes anytime and the unused classes would be refunded. In January 2023, we made a refund request for the unused classes. We were told to send an email to reach out to their management team, which we immediately did. At the end of Feb, we wrote to them again since we didn't hear back. We then called and texted the studio again. On April 5th, they sent me a photocopy of a check, but our names were spelled incorrectly. So I texted them again with the correct spelling of our names on the same day. I didn't hear back from them until I called and texted again on April 19th saying that I would take legal actions if I don't hear back from them. They then called back and asked me to provide them the wire instructions of my bank via email, which I did on the same day. Until now, I have not received the refund yet. I was told that they were too busy with getting ready for a dance competition to take care of my refund issue. read more

Though I do see the value in the classes and expertise of the teachers, I am completely turned off by the aggressive sales tactics of Arthur Murray. I signed up for a $500 beginner series which gave me 5 private 45 min lessons and permission to join any group class. Paul was an incredible teacher and I loved learning from him! At the end of my 4th lesson, I was sat down with Alex to go over the idea of continuing lessons. The prices were astronomical @ $1,200/month for 2 classes/week or $600/month for 1 class/week. I told him I'd like time to think about it before my next lesson. I knew I was on lesson #4 out of the 5 that I purchased, but didn't know when my 5th lesson was scheduled for since they switched around my lessons quite a bit. I asked Alex, "when is my 5th lesson? I'd like to take my time between now and then to decide." And he lied and told me I did not have another lesson and that I had gone through all my lessons. Alex went on to be extremely pushy, saying most people sacrifice their homes/cars/etc. to pursue their dancing dreams. I told him I didn't feel comfortable with spending that amount of money, and he still pressed, trying to get me to throw in a $300 deposit. It felt like a time share seminar. At this point I feel like they only care about the money. No thank you. read more

My now-husband had few requests as we were planning the wedding. One was dance lessons to choreograph our first dance. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of this - I thought it would be expensive and wasn't sure how much we could really fit in before the wedding. I agreed to go to the free trial (first lesson) and we had a great time! We signed on for the basic first dance package, which got us (I believe) 6 private lessons and 2 group lessons. We had a great time throughout the process. The instructors were supportive and helpful. We were able to choreograph the entire first dance song, with several dips and fun extra moves. Practicing was a great break from the stressors of the wedding planning process. The routine was a huge hit at the wedding itself, and we are both so glad we decided to go for it! Annaliza is absolutely wonderful. She possesses so many fantastic qualities-- she's patient with her students, she is energetic and optimistic every single time that you meet with her (she never has a bad day or an off day, and she's always genuine), she's understanding. My wife and I were lucky to work with her for a set of 6 lessons to practice the first dance for our wedding.  Also, she frequently brought in her peers who worked there to demonstrate certain moves to us and to have them give us more "neutral" feedback on the dance routine that my wife and I had. Everyone who we interacted with there was so friendly and warm (and knowledgeable). She is had a very positive and encouraging attitude with her students and she makes you feel totally comfortable and excited to be there in the dance studio with her. My parents also had lessons with her and when they came home, they had nothing but rave reviews for how lovely it was to work under Annaliza's guidance. We can't say enough good things about Annaliza-- you'll be lucky if you get to work with her! read more

I have an upcoming trip to Colombia so I wanted to learn to Salsa and Cumbia. I walked in their doors a few months ago and took advantage of their free 1st lesson. They scheduled it for the next day. Upon arrival for my 1st free salsa lesson, I met my dance instructor Monica. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was very informative in showing and instructing my dance partner and I, in all of the necessary steps and subsequent moves. I was very impressed with how much I had learned and how much fun I had in just the 1st lesson. I immediately booked a second lesson. I have been going to Arthur Murray for a few months now and thanks to Monica's great teaching, my dance partner and I have learned a lot of salsa and Cumbia dance moves. We even go to salsa clubs now and can hold our own! I've been very impressed with the professionalism and the high level of quality instruction. Arthur Murray also has group classes free of charge, every day of the week, for their customers. The private lessons have been great and I've left smiling every time. I am a firm believer of "You get what you pay for." and Arthur Murray is top quality dance instruction at its finest. My husband and I signed up for dance lessons to prepare us for our first dance for our wedding. The first lesson was free, and where we talked to our instructor about the songs we were interested in dancing to. Julz was our dance instructor. She's super adorable and friendly and full of ideas. Through the 6 weeks, she taught us how to Ramba to Marvin Gay by Charlie Puth. By the day of our wedding, our muscle memory had kicked in so hard that we didn't even realize we were dancing just as we had practiced. We did it, and we barely even thought about it! It was so much fun. So much thanks goes to Julz for getting us ready for our big day, and for being a part of our lives, though briefly. read more

This is my happy place. I know when I walk in the doors, I will instantly forget work, chores, etc. And then I see all of the smiling instructors. They're the best. Imagine fabulous, talented dancers who are so patient and warm and happy to be sharing their gift with you. The music is on, and I get to learn something new. Without fail, every week, my brain goes pow as the instructors shed new light on something I haven't thought of before. Have I mentioned it's fun? Have I mentioned I never stop smiling? p.s. Five stars for putting a big smile on my face tonight! Walking back to my car after dinner, I look through the studio's windows and spy a couple, maybe in their 80s, dancing cheek to cheek. The man had a bit of a bend in his back but he and his partner, probably his wife, are waltzing across the floor. No toes are stepped on, no left feet present. I pass by the main window and now see five couples, ranging in age from late 30s to 80s getting directions from the dance instructor. Keeps me hopeful to be like that older couple: actively engaged and happily dancing cheek to cheek with my honey, years down the road. read more

Four weeks before our wedding day, my gal and I came to the stark realization that we were going to mangle our first dance. We had a song in mind ... but that was it. Our experience with formal ballroom dancing? ZERO. So we rushed to Arthur Murray and signed up for wedding dance lessons (six private lessons to be squeezed into one month) in hopes of looking somewhat competent. We didn't want to do anything crazy or tacky ... just something classic and a bit dynamic. The lessons helped immensely. We started with the basics - and I mean the rudiments of dance (essentially being able to walk back-and-forth and side-to-side without tripping over each others' feet) - and tacked on more technique with each proceeding lesson. By our fourth lesson, we were spinning around, dipping, and doing all the good stuff. All thanks must go to our incredibly supportive and enthusiastic instructor, Nilo - she not only helped two bonafide klutzes look coordinated but she also choreographed our first dance. Nilo made us feel very much at ease from day one and had a knack for teaching the same concept in different ways (I'm more of a by-the-numbers, drill-drill-drill kind of learner whereas my gal learns by observation and feel). Nila also dispensed wisdom on when and where to "pause" during our dance - to ensure quality photo opps. These are the little details that go a long way. I really liked the vibe of the studio - the instructors and students have a grand ol' time. And it's not an intimidating scene at all - beginners mill around with experts. The staff was also gracious - we were free to attend any class we wanted during our "month." In the end, our goal was to look "natural" during the first dance and from the feedback we received from our guests, we did a solid job. I have to admit I went into all this kicking and screaming a bit ... but honestly, these lessons were a lot of fun and very beneficial. read more

I don't know why I haven't written a review sooner. My husband and I went to the studio for the first time last summer. We won the dance lessons from our kid's school auction! We average a lesson a month because of work and a family of 5's crazy schedule. But we have managed to remember the steps/moves/dances that Monica has taught us for the last 1-1/2 years. She is SO patient, friendly, encouraging, etc. I can go on and on. In the beginning of this year, we decided to renew our 20 year vows in Kapolei, Oahu on 11/28/14 at Paradise Cove Beach. Our recessional will be a ballroom dance medley consisting of waltz, hustle and swing. That has been our focus in the last few lessons. We love the choreography that Monica (and some help from Alex too) put together for us for this 5 minute routine that we will dance barefoot on the sand! Tonight was our last lesson. We did okay, but we were quite nervous as we performed in front of a few students and teachers at the studio. It is amazing how this auction item has turned into a bonding work-out for my husband and I. After you have been married for awhile, you want to find something new, something challenging, something FUN that you both can do. We have met some pretty cool people in the process. The staff at Arthur Murray Redwood City is awesome. (Annaliza, Chris, Sergio, Kayla, Kaylan, Brienne, Monica, Alex, I know I missed a couple of names) They are personable, kind and always happy to see you. They are one big happy family. My fiancé and I needed help to get our first dance worked out - with only five weeks to go! Well it turns out that these dance professionals are very well equipped to handle this very situation! We were quickly paired up with Annalisa, our instructor, and she was great from the very start. We got a bit of value from the first (free) lesson, and while the lessons were expensive (we took the 6-lessons option), the value was definitely there. The entire time we were getting lessons, Annalisa and the crew at Arthur Murray treated us like stars. We needed to repeat our song a few times? No problem. Put out a couple markers to gauge the dance floor size? You bet! Move a couple of lessons when my bride to be and I both got viciously sick only two weeks before the big day? Done! They even graciously put up with us having a mini couples meltdown. But in the end, the lessons added up to experience and Annalisa made up a great routine for us. We did a bit of homework too and by the time our big day came, we were confident, fluid, achieved Fox Trot dancers with a couple moves from some other styles tossed in for good measure. Everyone was impressed with our first dance - including us! So while we started out being four left feet, in the end Arthur Murray taught us how to dance, how to dance a great first dance, and even showed us a little about how to communicate as a couple. It was a bit pricey, but I will never miss the money because we will be able to dance for the rest of our lives in style! They even opened up the possibility of turning dance into a social experience with their dance evenings and clubs, something we will not do but we sure know where to come when the toes are twitching for a bit of old fashioned dance! read more

We signed up for wedding dance lessons with Jules, and we absolutely loved it. We made it challenging on her by being complete dancing novices and choosing a pretty atypical song combo that we wanted to switch dance styles with, but Jules came up with an amazing routine for us. She has the most effusive and enthusiastic teaching style, and she really captured the fun and relaxed nature that characterized our wedding (and us as a couple), while also injecting a very nice bit of romance. Our wedding dance video ended up being one of our favorite captured moments from the wedding, and that's definitely not something I would have expected :) read more

Thank goodness this place is close to home and they were flexible enough time wise to work with my difficult schedule. If you build up the nerve to walk in, they are very welcoming and hopefully you will be matched with an instructor that you connect with like we did. I would say generally everyone seems nice and know what they are doing. The price could be a little better but it is private and I don't really know the market. Search if you must but if you are close and don't have the time to drive far to prepare for a wedding, just go for it. So far so good, just HOPE we have it down by the wedding day which is in 18 days. And if we don't get it, I hope you'll be able to wing it. read more

Just tried to find information about Arthur Murray's schedule for social dance. No dice. Their web calendar shows as totally devoid of any events - http://arthurmurraylive.com/arthurmurraybayarea/events/category/redwood-city-events/. Clearly could be a bug and something easy to remedy. I tried their (helpfully offered) live chat service and chatted with someone named Eric who pushed hard to get my contact information and then was totally unhelpful. Simply acknowledging that the website has a bug is fine - I can understand. But his pushiness about the contact information up front - and the fact that the site is *littered* with contact forms - makes for a poor customer experience for someone simply looking for information and who doesn't want to be contacted. Uggh. Potentially a one-off bad experience. But in this area I'd expect both a better web experience AND better customer experience. read more

What an amazing place!!!! I could only write a five star review on something I truly believe in. Arthur Murray Redwood City is a top notch first class business. I have been a student at AM RWC for a little over 4 years. I went in on a whim to take a couple of lessons for an event that I had to attend. Immediately I was hooked. The customer service is one of the best I have ever encountered. They were able to turn someone with three left feet and little coordination into someone who has actually gone to dance competitions. If you are in awe with dancing with stars, spend just a short time at Arthur Murray and you will be in awe of You. There is no one thing that I have ever done in my life that has made me feel better about me then learning to dance at Arthur Murray RWC. After having a very weird experience with a dinosaur of a dance instructor from another local dance studio, I went to prescreen Arthur Murray before subjecting my better half to more lessons. Everything about this studio deserves praise. The newly remodeled studio is spacious and beautiful, all of the staff are warm and welcoming, and our instructor Chris was AMAZING! He made every lesson fun and laugh-filled. He was very energetic, engaging and patient. I decided to do something just for ME after our daughter started off to college. I thought I'd get some exercise and have fun while doing it by taking dance classes at Arthur Murray. Well it's done that for me and so much more! I've improved my posture, and long standing back pain, I've gained confidence in myself by trying something new, and found I have an ability to interact with all kinds of people in a fun and positive way. We recently took AM up on one of their discount lessons. We told them we have some dance experience, and wanted to try more advanced patterns and dances. Well, they kept selling us during our lesson, rather than show us good teaching technique or good teachers. Anyway, this was expected, but we wanted more teaching and less selling. Very nice studio and very nice staff. Their packages/pricing are high, so we will have to think about the plan. read more

In just four lessons she turned us from hopelessly uncoordinated dancers to a pair happily capable of a first wedding dance. My wife and I have been taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray in Redwood City for about 3 months and we LOVE IT. We have been working with Kayla, Jason and Monica all of whom are wonderful instructors. All of the instructors at the studio are supportive, friendly and amazing dancers. I scheduled a trial dance lesson here on a total whim! I have no dance experience and 2 left feet but wanted to try it out. Brienne was friendly and very helpful. We came in on our date night and Megan was our instructor. We had so much fun and learned a lot! She made us feel at ease and was really helpful at breaking down the steps and keeping things basic enough that we could follow, but also interesting enough to still be fun. After the lesson we met with Alex who explained possible packages to continue with. He shared his recommendations but wasn't pushy about it. We left saying we would think about it. He kindly, and again without feeling pushy or salesy, followed up with us the next day. It was so much fun that I think we are going to continue...and I'll come back to update this review once we take more lessons! My initial experience was a great one! read more

My then-fiancee (and now wife) and I came to Arthur Murray in Redwood City with no practical knowledge of ballroom dancing, and very modest expectations of what we might learn. We hoped to learn just enough to perform a first dance and avoid embarrassment and awkwardness. We enrolled in a wedding package of six lessons, and were super happy with our instructors, Natalie and Alex. We really appreciated their thoughtful and purposeful considerations of our vision of the wedding dance. We feel truly fortunate to have instructors who are so knowledgeable about both dance AND dance instruction. For example, they structured the dance lessons to make them accessible to total beginners like us. They are also very patient. We saw enough progress during the first six lessons that we decided to continue for a couple more months and have now become confident enough to dance several other styles including the hustle, salsa, and the waltz, among others. The guests at our wedding were blown away by the our first dance and the faster dancing that we did later in the evening. One other thing about the studio that is really great is that they have large group dance parties where you can learn with other students who you wouldn't ordinarily see. I have taken lessons at this studio since Fall 2006, and have participated in numerous local and national dance events. The instructors are excellent, they work around my schedule, and they have made my dance experience a lot of fun. As others have said, this studio (Redwood City) is the top Arthur Murray studio in the world, and it deserves that rank for all the hard work and excellent instruction they provide on their students' behalf. I thought I had little interest in ballroom dance, and I certainly had little experience when i started, but soon found myself enjoying it. When i started, my primary goal was just to learn enough not trip over either my own feet or my partner's feet. But I have seen enormous improvements in all aspects of my dancing, including being able to compete in national events. I have seen all ages participate from young children to the very elderly, and have been very impressed with the instructors' dedication to working with their students whatever their age and/or skill level. I would highly recommend the Arthur Murray Redwood City studio to anyone. read more
