Damnit!! I wish this place was closer To home. Artifact is the kind of coffee shop you wish were in your own neighborhood. It's quant, it's funky, it's artsy, it's eclectic.. It's also delicious. The black bean soup alone is worth the trip but the chicken corn soup with hominy was amaze balls. Combine them together in one bowl and you have liquid bliss. The English muffin sandwiches were solid but the different flavored ice teas were superb. From the mint to the lemon and red tea options I think I've found my new iced tea Mecca. Plus they use those little round ice balls that a few of my fellow yelpers love (you know who you are;)! Artifact is located in an old mill so there's wood and Brick everywhere! Plus the kitchen is visible and clean. Despite being in the middle of the city there is ample parking and they have these very cool wooden high chairs for the little ones! What else can I say.. It's a tad pricey but the quality is there. I'm anxious to get back! read more

I don't like to work at home for some reason and came here on a whim to buy some coffee, a pastry, and study for a few hours! The coffee was quite good, though it was definitely expensive. $7 for a french press! I also had one of their homemade donuts, which was divine! The ambience is definitely hipster. If I would have known I was supposed to wear a flannel shirt, I would have dressed for the occasion! Additionally, the music playing in the coffee shop was playing on the vinyl record player next to me. Gotta love dat lossless sound quality! Overhyped, underwhelmed by atmosphere and non coffee drinks. Obligatory to tip if you sit, since it is automatic for table service. EVIL. Don't bother with the flavored sodas- minimal taste- "expensive pee" as one of my favorite teachers would call it. My sister observed there were flies all over the baked goods- I was so excited to try one but after seeing this- HELL NO! Annoyingly this place does not operate like a normal coffee house. First thing when I walked in I was accosted with the question- take out or for here? This was weird but I understood as soon as we were seated for table service- if you want to sit you have to participate in table service and this tip. Weird, usually at a coffee shop you can buy or take out and sit as you please wherever. Perhaps this was there way of keeping tables free of people who squat and study there forever. Drinks: 3 (coffee pulls this rating up, non-coffee drinks would pull it down to a 2) Food: yet to try Stopped by to try their coffee, as we had heard good things, and left feeling that this place was not bad (but not living up the the hype). The Basil Mint Creamy is iced coffee with a liberal amount of cream and a dousing of basil-mint simple syrup. Great combination of flavors! Loved the herbaceous note from the basil. The high point of our drinks tasting menu. Mr Beffrey had a good ole classic cappuccino and felt it was solid, not blowing him out of the water but very decently made. The Peach Thyme Soda is disappointing, mostly ice, barely any peach or thyme flavor. It's mostly seltzer, and note that it is not sweetened at all. It's like drinking yellow water. The Pink Lady is a mix of basil-mint syrup and watermelon juice, again mostly ice, and sadly hard to taste any flavors. Use some brain power and imagination and there might be some watermelon taste. In the end it's like drinking pink water. The Watermelon Juice is (wait for it....) pure watermelon juice. Delicious, because it's hard to eff up pure watermelon juice, but not worth $5. Please see our tip -- the baked goods sit out in the open air on the counter by the cashier, and there were flies crawling all over the pastries (we specifically saw the molasses cookies, muffins, and pop tarts with flies on them). Totally disgusting. We have yet to come here for food. Perhaps the brunch will redeem our opinion of this establishment, but we are in no rush to return. Pretty cool place. I went here to get some work done one afternoon and it seemed a great non-Starbucks place to do that sort of thing. I like that they have both coffees/teas and beer/wine to offer, & the table service is a cool idea. I ordered the Honey Lavender Iced Latte and a tea cake. The tea cake was great. The latte was just okay, but about 3/4 of the way a gnat fell into it, and ruined that experience for me. (There were actually quite a few flies inside that were consistently flying near my table inside, which annoyed me. I hope they can fix that somehow.) read more

This is the place you walk into and say to yourself, "HOW ARE WE JUST NOW MEETING!!??" Artifact Coffee is an absolute gem. The atmosphere was magic! I'm talking dark wood beams and big bulb lights draped across the ceiling. I noticed that they had Coffee Milk on their menu!! I couldn't believe it as it's a Rhode Island staple and have never seen it outside of the Ocean State. However, $4.50 for milk with coffee syrup is STEEP! I got an iced coffee, my summer meal, and it was a-ok. The ice was little pebble sized balls, that melted way too fast and I found the coffee to be very weak. They do have some awesome creative coffee drinks, think basil and mint! Veryyy good! Two people in my party got that drink and it was delicious! Can't wait to come back! read more

Artifact is definitely a cool spot and great if you want to do some work and chill for a while. The staff is helpful and not bothersome when you're trying to read or getting things done on your computer. I do wish their coffee selection was a bit more comprehensive and some moe breakfast options would be good also. I got the breakfast sandwich with sausage and it was very good and made with higher quality ingredients, I would absolutely come back if I'm in the area. read more

This is a pretty cool coffee shop. I got asking cappuccino and it it was made okay. The ambience more than made up for the coffee and I enjoyed spending my time relaxed there on the bench. Then a great selection of drinks and pastries which if I'm never there again I'll give a try as a looked delicious. Recommend anyone to come there to use the bathroom. If only to check out the sink but I'm sure there are other reasons. read more

We went here on Saturday and we really liked the place. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be and the parking lot does get quite full on a Saturday morning. We came to have a light breakfast and some wifi surfing. We ordered: 1 cappuccino $4 1 breakfast sandwich $6 1 small squash soup $4 I was really impressed with the soup - it was a large and lovely portion for the bowl price. The breakfast sandwich on the other hand was tasty but very small for the price. As mentioned by many other Yelpers, there is a lovely hipster vibe that includes extremely slow service. It wasn't busy so I'm not sure why the service was so slow, as there was a small army on staff. They do put water pitchers on the table, which is useful as the service is so slow. Also, because of the building and the proximity of other tables, the place can be very very loud, which isn't too pleasant on a Saturday morning. I feel like some of the other patrons were yelling and we could hear every single detail of their private conversations. I can't really blame them for yelling because it was over the top loud in there. We will be back for the ambience, but not for the service. read more

I was highly confused about this place. I walked in thinking it was a usual coffee shop where you order and sit down, but the lady informed me that I had to wait to be seated. Long story short, after standing there a couple of minutes without any of the employees acknowledging me I walked out and took my business elsewhere. I visited this place as well when I came to Baltimore. I love their unique drinks. Their lavender latte was delicious. The environment and atmosphere was just excellent. It fits a coffee shop. If you ever do come to Baltimore you should visit this place as well. It took me a while to find, but it was actually pretty easy, I just kissed the sign myself. They also have a spacious parking lot! I wished I tried their cookies though. read more

Came here for a birthday party for a good friend of mine. The space is beautiful. It has that rustic chic vibe going for it, with the exposed brick, distressed wood tables, mismatched chairs, etc. The crab dip was good as far as flavor, but slightly watery. The Mac and cheese was ok but could have been a tad more creamy. The burgers were good, as were the roasted vegetables. The grilled cheese was not the best - the bread was too hard and it wasn't that gooey, cheesy consistency that I prefer for grilled cheese. The house punch was good. I believe they said it had bitters and sours in it. The staff was friendly. It's perfect for an intimate gathering. I could definitely see myself hosting an event here. read more

Finally made it to Artifact, and it was pretty cool. Best part: they had gluten free scones! They also seemed to be fairly knowledgable about gluten-free menu iterms. Artifact is an interesting coffeeshop in that about half of the people are there primarily to do work, while other half are there primarliy for the cafe offerings. If you plan to go for the former reason, you should know there is a communal table that [downside] has limited, slightly uncomfortable seating and [upside] has several built in outlets! 1 star knocked off because I found it to be excessively pricey for what you get. The other star was because I'm not sure if I'm digging the non-traditional coffeeshop ambience. I plan to go a few more times to get a better feel, and will update my review accordingly. read more

Come here if you'd like to have a meal that is of Woodberry Kitchen quality, without the Woodberry Kitchen price. Artifact Coffee is slightly different from your usual cafe in that it places much more emphasis on food (lunch and dinner) and carries a more loud and more social atmosphere. I tried studying here once, and I was distracted by all the activity around me, as well as the loud music. The interior ambiance is reminiscent of an old mill, along with plenty of vintage decor, which I found absolutely stunning. You'd be best served visiting Artifact Coffee to meet up with friends, rather than trying to get work done. My favorite drink here is the basil mint creamy. It's so good that I always drink it too fast, and then I'm left wondering where my whole drink went! Artifact Coffee is within walking distance of the Woodberry Light Rail station, so it's very accessible for those without a car. read more

Have been here several times for breakfast and went last night for tokifact ! I thought tokifact was great ! Loved having something new in Baltimore ! The line was crazy and despite showing up at 545 and waiting on line we were the third seating ! Get there at 5 is my recommendation. They had lots of fun drinks and Asian beers. I had the red rice beer hitachino brand which was light and smooth. We started with gyoza which were above average not too greasy. We had the sweet potato dumpling soup and the broth was. Excellent and salty although I didnt love the sweet potato mixture. Scallion and oyster pancake was more like a deconstructed tempura and there werent any oysters noticed in it. For entrees the pork belly ramen was sold out so several friends went with the meatballs which were actually quite delicious. Another friend had the rice cake which she didnt love and felt the texture was off and it was too salty. I had the plain ramen which came with smoked ham pickled egg bok choy and splet noodles. It was salty and delicious ! It was a nice large portion and I took some home ! For dessert the Taiwanese shaved ice was very good. It wasnt real shaved ice and was creamy almost like gelato but unlike anything I'd ever had. Served with peaches and ginger and it was great ! Recommend it if you are ok with waiting on line. As for their breakfast selection I also love it. Great coffees as well as teas. Homemade pastries muffins and scones. Their egg sandwiches are awesome as well. Friendly service and staff. This place is perfect! I met a friend here for a coffee and a bite before we headed out to adventure Baltimore for the day and it could not have met our needs better. It is a little strange that it seems to be connected to some apartment complex, but there is plenty of parking and we left one of our cars there all day for free. Yay! The ambience is adorable. I loved the stone walls, the hanging lights, and the reclaimed wood tables. My friend and I sat down and were almost instantly greeted and waited on (so perhaps some things have changed since previous reviews?). We each got really delicious lattes and a small item to snack on. She was very happy with her scone and I was more than pleased with my english muffin with eggs and mushrooms. Our total with tip was $20, so I honestly don't feel like this was overpriced at all! Maybe I am just not used to Baltimore prices, but for the service, location, and quality, I think the price was right-on (honestly, even a little less than I anticipated!). If I lived here, I would come back very often. I regret not spending more time in here and grabbing a bag of beans to take home. Maybe they are trying hard to be cool, but they definitely succeeded in my book. read more

we came here on a Sunday afternoon (2:30ish). there was no wait and the place fairly empty with just ~10 patrons studying. the music in the background is fairly upbeat but not disrupting if studying is your main goal (it def won't put you sleep). they have table service, and maybe it's different when it's busier but we were told to seat ourselves and the waitress would be with us momentarily. they also have take out =) brunch ends at 3pm so we caught it just in time! Food: the dark roast coffees are all on the "lighter" side, but it seems to be consistent with most artisanal cafes. the food was really good, we tried the vegan bahn mi (i only wish the pickled veggies were more pickled. i thought the mushroom pate was great as was the chili mayo). their breakfast bowl was also fantastic, the flavors were fresh and great, and i did love the grits. it was on the heavier side, but most comparable breakfast entrees would be too. ambience: i think the key thing about this place was the atmosphere, i love the rustic look matched with the succulent plants, giving this place a very complex feel, inviting and warm yet in a stoney cold rustic building, homey with mix-matched antique type furniture with dimly lit old light bulb fixtures and metal pipes fully exposed above. what's interesting is that this coffee shop seems to be attached to a residential area behind it, well hidden with a nice outdoor courtyard that i'm sure the residents enjoy. service: because we came on a not so busy time, the service was great! our waitress was wonderful and accommodating, left us alone yet attended to our waters and other refilling needs. price: i really like this place, the price was not bad, relatively comparable to cafes similar in feel. i definitely enjoyed the ambience and can see how it can be VERY busy. they do have a fairly decent size parking lot, but i think it's shared with the residents and other businesses in the small rustic looking complex. i'd come back =). read more

We were craving breakfast food, something better than Panera, but something that didn't require table service etc. In Baltimore, I think there is a lack of breakfast places that serve innovative, relatively cheap tasty foods. This place is on the right track. Decor was rustic and comfortable; I liked the record player and collection of vinyl. You look at the menu, stand in line and place your order. They give you an old spice can which helps the food runners figure out where the food goes. Being a Sunday, they had the croissants and donuts (bavarian cream) We shared the donut which was filled nicely, but it was almost too bread-like instead of donut like. The coffee products were tasty and hearty and the barista-guy seemed pretty focused on making quality brew. I had the English muffin with sage sausage and egg/cheddar cheese. It was quite good, but just a little bit small. The other food on the menu seemed appealing and probably worth trying. So, 2 small breakfast sandwiches, 1 donut, 2 cups of "coffee" $26 plus tip. Reasonable I guess, but at least it was something different. The other thing I noticed...the clientele. 90% looked like they fell out of a J Crew catalog. I've been meaning to write a review for one of my favorite places in Baltimore. Fantastic for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Breakfast is my favorite though. Their coffee drinks are amazing you really can't go wrong with any of them. But the caramel one with goats milk or basil mint one are my favorites. The first time we came here we grabbed a doughnut to share while waiting for our breakfast- just do it! You won't be disappointed. I dream about their breakfast sandwiches I can't order anything but the egg and scrapple one it's too amazing! For lunch all of their sandwiches are fantastic. They completely change the place for dinner and it is so adorable and intimate. The service is always attentive and super friendly! Just love everything about artifact. read more

This place is cute, with a nice coffee-shop hipster feel with good food and fine coffee (if you're into 'nicer' coffee). I'm not so much into coffee on the fine side of things, I don't care for the bitterness. I prefer my local Dunkin with a butt-load of sugar, but that's not to discount what this place offers (more bold brews, press, etc.). The food is great, I've gotten the grilled cheese and a few different breakfast sandwiches, and I've never been disappointed. Good quality, nicely presented, decent prices, etc. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, though, as in most coffee shops, seating is limited and is largely taken up by artsy college students on their laptops most of the time. The employees are delightful, very cheery and friendly. This is a place I'd go if I was in need of a quick lunch or to meet a friend over tea. read more

Breakfast sandwiches and I are having a love affair and at artifact I can happily indulge because their breakfast sandwich is one of the best around. Homemade English muffin, a thin perfectly cooked egg omelette wrapped around savory mushrooms and cheese.. My mouth is already watering! FYI: If you sit down, there is table service! The service is incredibly friendly and quick about taking and making your order. Atmosphere is really good for working in, and the music really complements the cozy feel. I tried the coffee soda - not my cup of tea, but not horrible either! It tastes a little like watered down coffee that's been carbonated and sweetened to me. Maybe that's not the sexiest description, but it is worth a try, just to satisfy your curiosity. Loved the interior feel of this place - lots of exposed brick wall, pipes, etc. The food was great (I got the griddled English muffin with egg and cheddar). I got the raw honey cortado and that was great; the white monkey iced tea was a little too watery for my taste but it might be the type of tea that is (it's a white/green/oolong type tea, as opposed to black tea). I love the ambiance of this place. It's definitely got that hipster vibe. This isn't just coffee, but brunch, sandwiches, salads, and soups too. I came here to study and was pretty productive with my earbuds in. If I didn't have my earbuds in it would've been a bit too loud for me to focus. While I was there I got the basil mint latte that is lightly sweetened and very refreshing. My friends and I also got the blueberry with granola bread? it was really good as well. Finally! Great coffee *and* great pastries - in the same place?!! Artifact has a respected coffee program that will please even die-hard coffee connoisseurs, flaky brioche basted pastries and an a cute interior that makes you want to get both for there vs. to go. We had a black walnut filled croissant and a pomegranate danish, and both were excellent. Extra touches include cute mini-mason jars for cream and sugar to go with the coffee, and a modern country look that makes you feel right at home.
