The owner, Lauren, was very generous with us when my son was three years old and just starting art classes. He's taken many classes at Sharon Art Studio since, as well as one at Fort Mason and one at Chris Babcock's Art Studio. My absolute favorite piece of his is his first painting, a self-portrait "Picasso" that he made at ARTifact when he was three. Our 5.5yo son began Friday art classes this fall(2016). We signed him up bc he just seem uninterested in art/drawing/coloring and seemed to lack an imagination. So we thought immersing him in a 2 hour intimate class of 6, taught by someone other than his mom would help. Well here we are one month into his class and this boy is all smiles after class. He looks forward to going every week and loves sharing what he's learned. The first 6 weeks they learned about William Shakespeare; made a folio as it's thought Mr Shakespeare did himself so long ago and brought it home to share. He was so proud of his work and I'm so proud of him. As a parent we want to expose our kids to so many things and sometimes we get carried away with over scheduling but I have to say adding art into my son's weekly routine is something I know he will cherish and use forever. I've explored and searched for the right fit and although it's a drive from the sunset, it's absolutely worth it. Yay for great schools and yay for Artifact. read more

I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewers. This placed SAVED me!!! New to SF with a 3.5 year old boy, no friends, play dates or pre-schools, no sitter in the area and much, much time on our hands. Somehow we found this gem. My son had not yet been to pre-school and had not really been separated from me or our previous nanny, EVER!!! Let me say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Lauren and Bianca are superb with the kiddies, young ones, crying ones, shy ones... they are so incredibly warm and gentle with them. I left my boy crying and screaming (against my own instincts) but Lauren texted me within 10 minutes of my departure to let me know he was now happily engaging in the art project and playing with the other kids. This place offers a mini-preschool experience. It's a drop-off for a short period of time, which eases kids into the separation thing. Kids listen to music, snack... but mostly do these really great art projects. My son loved everything about it, and was always asking about when we would be returning. The art they brought home is usually built upon a theme, and progresses throughout the session and is also educational. This place is GREAT. I am so sad we moved away so that we can't participate anymore, because we most certainly would!! Highly recommended!!! read more

Since the summer, my 3 year old son has been attending the "art exploration" drop off art class at ARTifact, on Greenwich at Baker (Cow Hollow neighborhood), available for over 2.5 year olds and absolutely LOVES IT! I just got an email from Lauren and Bianca and there are SPOTS AVAILABLE for the upcoming sessions: http://www.sfartifact.com/ He has consistently had Lauren as a teacher and she is awesome. Each 5 week session focuses on a theme, e.g., basket weaving, negative images, etc., which I appreciate because I feel it really allows a deeper understanding and retention of the methods. Additionally, each week there are a couple of different stations set up, e.g., clay or stamping, for free exploration. She also has an "art sensory bin" - it had "snow" in right before the holidays. Each week he comes home with smaller "priceless" art work and toward the end of the session has a bigger piece that he has worked on for several weeks. He is always so proud to share it. Over the summer, at the end of a session, Lauren gave my son a mystery color of sidewalk paint (whose color shows once you add water). He had so much fun with it. In October, he had made a bat one week, to hang in the spirit of Halloween. In December, my son weaved a basket and wrapped it in paper he personally decorated. He was sooo proud to have it under our tree and give it to his Daddy and me for Christmas. Besides being so creative in the projects, Lauren is very mindful in her language. I've witnessed her break apart little battles between students and she's a master in redirecting their energy without yelling or anyone crying. She used to be a teacher at Stretch the Imagination, a program I loved. My son didn't have her as a regular teacher but she does remember subbing one class that he was in...my take away, besides having an amazing memory, is that she loves kids. When I pick up my son from preschool and let him know it's an "art class day" he literally yells, "YIPPEE!" So, in short, it's fantastic and I highly recommend it. read more

When I took my daughter to ARTifact, she had such a wonderful time. The space is nicely designed and is only a few blocks away from all the shops of Chestnut and Union street. I was able to drop her off for a class and hop down to Chestnut street for a coffee. When I came back, I was highly impressed to see that the owner actually got my three year old to let her face paint a butterfly and ladybug. This is something she has never, ever allowed anyone to do. That to me was a sign that she was happy and comfortable. The studio is very fun and they have so many different things to do. I am so impressed with Lauren and the other art teachers at Artifact, they are about advanced art topics in a very interesting and simple way. My four year old daughter goes to two classes a week and is always inspired and loves the classes. She has managed to teach me about artists and to keep my daughter constantly wanting to create and learn. During the pandemic, I was even more impressed with Lauren as she quickly managed to have extremely interesting, fun and interactive classes online for her current students. She truly loves her students, teaching and art and went way beyond what we expected. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! Lauren and Bianca are so warm and caring and friendly and happy and truly turn kids on to not, just art expression, but also famous artists. I had originally just signed my 4 year old up for one session and I was so impressed and my daughter loved it so much that I signed her up for the entire rest of the season! My daughter had taken classes at other "art" studios but I was not impressed at all, so I was a bit hesitant to try out another "art class" experience. My daughter comes home talking about VanGogh, Romare Bearden and other artists. If you're in search of an art experience for your child, I highly, highly recommend Artifact. read more

I work at a restaurant around the corner from this studio and since they moved into the neighborhood I have heard only great things. So many couples are able to come to Liverpool LiLs to enjoy the restaurant because they are able to leave their kids in the creative hands of the ARTifact staff. Upon several recommendations I walked my 4 year old god son over to the studio, introduced him and myself to the welcoming staff and within minutes he was at a table, making new friends and creating clay sculptures. Lauren and Bianca are wonderful, caring art teachers. Our son will often wake up in the morning and ask us "Is it art class today?" He adores them both. We absolutely love this place!! This is the best class in San Francisco and a dreamy place for children to explore and create! I stopped working and signed up my 18 month old for all kinds of classes and ARTifact is the only one we are sticking with after preschool starts next year. Playgroup is for under 2.5 so an adult must ride along for the show but it is amazing...Lauren, the teacher, greets us with open arms and has home-made playdough and paint and other kinds of fun materials set up in different stations. The kids just explore color and feel and all their artwork is dried and saved for take home the following week. There are lovely windows lining the front and Lauren will put shaving cream all over them and the kids just use their fingers and hands to move it all around and see what results. Sometimes these new creative minds are inspired to paint the walls...everything is a go at ARTifact where all the materials are washable and the #1 purpose is for children to feel safe so there creative spirits can grow! We can't wait to do classes year after year...the artwork hanging on the walls from the older kids looks so fun and I am constantly impressed with the ideas the teachers have. They are fantastic and go above and beyond...if only they would open up a preschool!!! This place is magical!!! read more
